Worst crosswind I ever had was in a moving truck towing an auto hauler with my 73 Econoline on it. I about got blown into the side of the bridge over the Ohio. A brick towing a brick sitting up 2 feet off the ground.

Ya know what I noticed in those pics? Folks indoors are bundled up a bunch more than I am when venturing outdoors. No thank you.

I think its just the lighting, it's actually quite darker than it looks in the photo.

Well dangit. It's 8pm and some phuquetards are detonating fireworks, which traumatizes the old dog and she is afraid to go outside to do her business.

Looks as if it's gonna be another LONG night here in the overcrowded burbs.

Yep, winter sucks, I hate it! I'm just glad we don't have Michigan or Wisconsin winters, I could never move back to Michigan.

We're watching Ozark now. I was wrong the other day when I said we were anxious for the next new season to start, apparently they are five or six episodes into the new season and my wife's been recording it. Right now we're re-watching part of the last season to refresh our memory of what all is going on.

As for the Razzleberry pie, when we went to Walmart a few days ago, they were out of Razzleberry too, that's why I ended up getting blueberry, almost as good, but not quite!

Aloha

Pretty day here, not quite as warm as yesterday but the sun being out helps. Rain Thursday.

Jamesbo hope you got the Vista delivered and back home okay. When Donny stays up at the lake do you let him ride around in the Gator?

Kenneth hope the pup did okay last night. I've had Tiger 5 years, and he is not bothered in the least, but whenever there's a storm, or fireworks, or gunshot because I live in redneckville, I still get uneasy myself because I remember my other two dogs would be so scared.

So today was "Employee Appreciation Day" at work. We had sandwiches, which looked like what you'd get at the airport kiosk when running for a flight. They weren't bad I suppose, when you're trying to buy lunch for 10,000 people I guess you do what you can. We got an insultingly low "profit sharing" today as well, but actually only got 2/3 of the number they talked up. They say it's because of the tax laws that they have to tax it at the highest rate possible. Eh, free money. I stopped worrying about that years ago. It might have been more if we weren't in a bidding war to buy some Italian airline that's failing.

Well the pressure is off. Moday is over. We actually had our normal amount of wheels today, which we finished up by 1. We left a few minutes before 2 which was nice. No telling what the rest of the week will be like, we'll take it as it comes.

Peace

Chris - I’ve been struggling to understand why your wife is recording Ozark. Why is she recording a Netflix series (Ozark) which is already on Netflix?

My driveway goes downhill to the east, and there are trees to the south. This lack of direct winter sun means the only ice on the street is on the hill of my driveway. Fortunately, there was a spot in the middle and the right to run on, and, after giving up on swinging in on a right turn, I just backed out straight across the road on my last failed attempt's roll back down, aimed carefully, and gunned the poor 4 banger hard. Made it.

Life is hard when you're a plastic bedded, 2WD open rear light pickup on ice, even when the owner gives you Michelins and sandbags. Maybe I'll get the 98 Tahoe on the road this year. 4x4 and V8 power, and heavy.

Norm - I can understand why you're struggling. You're struggling because my mind and choice of words are stuck in the pre-historic (pre-streaming) age! What I should have said is there are 5 or 6 new episodes of the new season out there already! Duh!!!

Of course, He ride/drive anything he wants [except my wife] Boat cars Gator

I bought his grandson Eli a training water ski so this summer he can start to learn to ski

If he breaks anything he''ll fix it

He was kind enough to measure the ramp to the floating dock for me. We're gonna weld up some bracing to keep it from racking during wind storms

He really is the greatest mechanic/craftsman I've ever known

Do you remember when they re did the golf course and he saved some pewter tee box markers? He took the numbers off a few and reinstalled them . Mine says " 442 Later I'll post a pic [It's on another computer]

I hope you can meet him one day

Good morning guys,

Still cold this morning with 26° at 0800, but sunshine and it's supposed to warm all the way up to 61° this afternoon. It should definitely feel Spring like!

Have to head out at 0915 for my 6-month dental check-up and cleaning this morning at 1000. Not my favorite thing, but I'm lucky, my teeth are in pretty good shape and there usually are no issues.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Spectrum outage for ~1 hour here. This is the issue when a monopoly is allowed to control access. Based upon what I can see on my AT&T WiFi access via iPhone this is a very large outage. Imagine the hundreds of thousands most likely millions affected. Businesses brought to a complete standstill dead in their tracks unable to provide services everywhere.

I despise utility monopolies. Their agents don't care, because they are treated like trash by a company who doesn't have to care because they have you. Plus, their bundle deals are deceptive marketing and they can charge whatever they want.

Aloha

Good day so far, work was good, it's sunny out(a little cool), and I just gave myself a 5 day weekend.

Jamesbo I'm confused. Is Donny the guy that works in the cemetery or the guy that works up at the lake? Hope they had a good time.

Gonna move a few things out of the garage today over to the house. If I had an extra 3 grand I'd get a 40ft container to set at the shop and put all this stuff in. My original plan was to get two of them, set them apart and build a roof over them, and then park the big trucks under the roof. That plan about doubled in price so it's on hold.

I just got a text saying the Atlanta area is getting yet another area code. Might be a scam because it had a link with it. How about instead of that we rescind some phones from people that don't need them, like children, people in jail, those who crash their cars while talking on the phone.

I ran across a song on Youtube that I haven't heard in years. I actually have the 45. I'll post it later. You'd never, ever, ever be able to guess it. Always brings a smile to my face when I hear it.

Okay off to do something.

Peace

Nope that isn't it Jamesbo. You know I can't stand that song, so I look up the one that you posted before and just watch that girl dance around in circles. Here is the one I found.

My Dad spent some time in Japan when he was in the Navy, and brought this back. I still have it packed up somewhere. I used to listen to this over and over when I was little.

Off to the Welders to get my dock ramp brackets made up. These guy are the best welders I've ever seen

Donny found them. In his shop. He had them make a table [ for lack of a better word] lift. So he can drive reel fairway mower onto the table. lift it up and there]s a blade sharpening machine that right there to sharpened the reel blades

The same guys that made my header for the tractor shed

Mike, Ya need any more 5 ton pics, They're parked in the adjacent lot stacked up waiting for a new movie to be made

Good morning guys,

Overcast right now, but a high of 62° this afternoon with rain forecast. 62° this afternoon, and a low of 9° Friday morning with a small amount of snow. These huge temp swings are playing havoc with my sinuses! Wife is scheduled to go see the specialist on Friday at 1230, and I'm really hoping the roads aren't slick because any road treatment is not going to work much at 9°.

My oldest daughter turns 30 today. It's probably a toss up between the two of us on who's feeling older today with her turning that number.

No big plans for today. I'd really like to get my taxes done, but I'm still waiting on one doc from Raymond James that never gets here until the middle of February, it should be here any day now.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Beautiful here today, before the storm. Rain tomorrow night and a lot of it. Wind, thunder, the works.

Took three big garbage bags over to the house today, and it filled up the garbage can. Did some cleaning out of the carport, then vacuumed the dogmobile. I think that thing is beyond hope. Well it's better anyway.

Jamesbo what movie are they gonna film? I can't imagine a war movie being filmed up there.

Work was good. The lead is going to be gone all week so the clowns are hard at it screwing off. I do what I can and don't worry about the rest.

I'm tired tonight. My leg has been unusually painful today, and jumping around the carport didn't help it. Bed time will be early. Two more.

Peace

We’re anticipating this storm too. My buddy still doesn’t have power from the ice storm, but, to be fair, the last storm took everything off the house electric wise
memphis is the center of the dark red prediction for tomorrow

it seems like tornado alley is slowly migrating east.

I’ve got about 19 yds left to move by hand.

this is why it seems like I never get ahead

Oh Jamesbo, you made me go and (re)learn something tonight. Whenever you bring up that quote, There but for the Grace of God go I, I have to go look up who said it, because I forget the guy's name. I do remember that he's in the Tower of London waiting to be executed. It's John Bradford, by the way. He was burned at the stake. Yikes.

I didn't think you were filming, are they sitting there waiting for a movie to come about? Fire one up and take it for a ride. You might forget all about your M38A1...

Mike, I thought I gave John Bradford credit for the quote

Headed Norte with a LONG piece of PVC strapped to my truck. The idea is to mark the band on the floating dock and temporally put the piece of PVC into the lake bottom next to the floating dock. As the lake rises we can see how much the dock traveled towards the stationary dock. When we put the braces on the ramp to the floating dock the plan is to sink a 2" galvanized pipe into the lake bed and bolt a flat metal band [ picture a large flat footman's loop] around the pipe so as the lake rises and lowers the pipe can travel inside the metal band

Good morning guys,

Just plain crappy out here. It's pouring rain, and temperature has been dropping steadily since midnight, 36° at 0930 and should dip below freezing around 1300. This rain is supposed to transition into a period of ice, and then snow. We're not supposed to get much of either one, but I guess we'll see what happens. Still hoping the roads don't get bad because the forecast is still calling for a low of 9° tomorrow morning. We're lucky we don't have to be anywhere today, but we'll need to leave around 1145 tomorrow morning for my wife's appointment with the specialist, unless they call and cancel it. Keeping our fingers crossed at this point!

Any of the rest of you guys that are in the path of this front I wish you the best of luck, stay safe! I hope everyone has a great day!

James, traditionally a floating dock is set up so that it goes up and down, the stationary dock holds still, and the ramp going from the stationary dock to the floating dock gets effectively longer as the floating dock rises. Bearing trigonometry in mind, the less of an angle from the horizontal, the longer it is, effectively. If the wheels are on the floating dock deck, they will roll outwards as the dock rises.

The idea is to not have the floating dock get higher than the stationary dock, but I HAVE seen that happen.

Other methods just have a link at both ends and the floating dock can pull out and in as need be, which may be what you are doing, come to think of it.

Matt - What do you have going on there? I assume that is top soil which you are using to fill those (what appear to be) metal boxes made of metal (guard rail railing it appears). Are those planter boxes and if so what product are you planting? Is the cut flat-stone a part of this project?

I'm real familiar w/ Tornado alley. Did my USAF basic training in Lackland AFB (San Antonio), tech school in Wichita Falls (Sheppard AFB), worked for the NPS (Ozark Mtns), then spent five years living in Norman, OK. There's a reason they located the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory weather research laboratory in Norman, OK. I recall that batch of tornadoes which swept through Joplin several years ago and just kept on coming ENE. On two different roads I was traveling, the trees were turned to toothpicks as the tornadoes moved across land from Missouri all the way to the East Coast of North Carolina. Quite the site to witness, indeed.

There are many ways to build floating docks - I've witnessed a fair number - those on fresh-water lakes (in the middle of the lake & those which are located on the shoreline). Some of the most clever floating docks I've seen are the type you drive into the lake then float them out in the water and strap them to the pilings - those are pretty darn clever. Then, there are those which remain on the shoreline. The larger floating docks I've seen on decent size lakes were those you take out yearly; but, they're not small - they large and you assemble each floating dock piece once they're floating in the water - think ski season on the many Northern lakes, then think of me volunteering to help.

We have some big floating docks along the Atlantic Ocean shoreline where I live here on the East coast. Lots of variations depending on need. Some of the vessels are 65'+ in length. The floating docks are like runways leading to the larger stationary docks. I'm often amazed watching them raise and lower daily with the tides.

Here's one for you. I spent some time in & around Puget Sound (Pacific Coast), with some regularity. Paying no attention to any of the boats in the harbor/dock basin we headed to lunch - after fishing during the day - just a regular shoreline restaurant above a seaside cliff you have to walk up to. We spent the better part of two hours in the restaurant then went walking about for a spell - maybe two more hours. Arriving back to the harbor/dock one of the guys points to the cliff we just walked down from. A knuckle-head tied his boat (very securely) to the deeply embedded light posts which were buried in the coastline - not the docks. His 25' boat was hanging in the air on the cliff ~6' above water.

Nice! He obviously lived by the lyrics of his favorite song, "Green Grass (the smokin kind) and High Tides Forever"!
