65-66 Lower Windshield Moldings: There were 2!
Got the buffer out today to shine up some old Olds stuff. Two of the pieces were the lower windshield stainless steel moldings that go at the base of the 65-66 88's, 98's and Starfires. I thought these were common to the all of the GM B and C body cars of that era across damn near all the brands.
It turns out there was a version of these moldings for hardtops and a different version for convertibles with the most subtle difference I've seen in years. The little bend at the outside end is wider for convertibles to accomodate the convertible-unique outer vertical windshield moldings. The hardtop version of the lip bend is maybve 3/8" less wide.
The car in this picture is a '66 98 convertible, what's installed on the car is original and correct. I bought the other in the boneyard as a spare, shined it up and learned it will only fit on the '66 Starfire hardtop - or probably any Buick, Chevy, Cadillac, Pontiac hardtop of the day.
Convertible windshield lower molding is ever so slightly wider than hardtop lower molding at the outer lip bend. Who knew?
