I learned how to get six NYPD officers called to my block in well under three minutes...
Did some adjustments to fix the flooded backfire, but an appointment was made to review the carb.
Cleaned up the mess with power feeds on my 1971 Cutlass 350. Not sure if you can buy one, but I made a cover for the junction block at the horn relay. Mine was missing the original. This is one of those plastic hood insulation retainers. Cut off the peg & drilled out a hole to fit the 10-32 stud.

Got the last parts stripped off the front end before cleaning/painting the frame and firewall. Hopefully the last parts, unless I get stupid and decide to do more. Gathered up some smalls to take to my friendly neighbourhood sandblaster for blasting and painting.
Before anyone has a heart attack, the speaker grill was mangled and the gauges were mounted 30 years ago. I know this is the wrong audience, but I can make a few more if anyone with a 66/67 wants one (gauging interest- pun intended)...
finally replaced my cracked dash pad with a new 53 year old used pad..hehe. meant to do this project last year but did the hood/intake instead.
I
also added the missing dash inlay and new 442 badge to glove box. painted the silver trim and installed the radio from classic car stereo.
of course after the radio was working, blew a back speaker so had to replace them.
while I had the seats out I thought I would check the floors.
super clean but it was missing the factory deadener mat, so I added some.
I also added the seat divider and put some sound absorber on it before putting it all back together.
1. Serviced the trans. Everything looks perfect.
2. Installed rebuilt radiator - now a 3 pass, but with original tanks.
3. Installed new 160 degree thermostat.
4. Cleaned out heater core - all good. (Heater hoses are rotten - getting new ones).
5. Last weekend I rebuilt rear wheel cyls and cleaned the rear brakes. They're ready to go.
Cleaned trans pan ready to install Pristine after 58 years. Done Rebuilt radiator - replaced 2 pass for 3 pass 160 degree t-stat ready to install Hoses are in amazing condition Honed rear wheel cylinder Rebuilt original rear cyl, ready to install Right rear brakes - all original - 70% left on shoes Left rear ready to go

Tore into my Rochester 4GC, owned the car about 5 weeks now, something wasn't right with the carb. Look at the gunk in the secondary fuel bowl! The secondaries were pretty much frozen and non-functional. Spent all day cleaning, then put a new kit in it. Runs perfect now!

Became upset at the car. 1971 Cutlass convertible. Decided to start it up, preparing for spring. Cranked twice & failed to turn over third try. It started after 10 min on charger. This is the second time this happened, w/ a 3 year old Delco battery. Only this car & my Grand Cherokee act this way after sitting a month. The other cars don't loose any voltage. Even the lawn tractor cranked over. I'm wondering if this is normal because both of these have a modern radio which draws some power w/ the car off. Hopefully that's all that is wrong.

You need to take the pulse of your car.
(1) Begin w/ a fully charged (~12.6V) battery - critically important;
(2) Start vehicle. Measure battery voltage while running with all accessories in the car OFF. Should be >14.0V (nominally ~14.3V) alternator supplying voltage to battery;
(3) Measure battery voltage periodically (preferably daily) and note time of day. Are you losing voltage (parasitic draw)? How rapidly are you losing voltage and how much voltage are you losing (if any)?
IOW, create a diagnostic timeline with MEASURED voltage readings so as to gain some insight.
Painting Wheels - Getting Ready for Coker Whitewall Tires
The insides of the wheels were nasty, like 68 years of nasty. The outsides just needed a wet sand and paint around the perimeter as hub caps will be going back on.
I pulled the gas tank out of my '80 Supreme and found a rusty mess inside. It seems after 30 years stagnant Sunoco Ultra 94 doesn't age well. I could have cleaned out and reused the tank but I already have another replacement and sender already on the shelf in my basement. Going to replace the 3/8" fuel line front to back while I'm at it, there was fuel still in the lines and I'm not going to take a chance on a fouled fuel line. Lousy part is, it all was new way back when I tore the car down and never saw a mile on the road.
Also installed the rear quarter extensions and NOS '78 tail lamps I picked up last year off of eBay. They are so much nicer to look at than my worn originals.
Put in wider inner wheel housings that no longer rub like the originals, and got rid of the beat-up trunk pan. Still some work to do there but good enough for the girls we date.
My Old lady received a new voltage regulator, dwell adjusted and timed, new battery (old one held a good charge but was aged) but I can see a road trip coming up and I don't want any surprises 600 miles from home. Next I think plug wires are in order as I have a slight surge going on they are a little crispy and that is about the only thing that's left to fix, carb just had a rebuild, might be a little crud from sitting three years. I'll do one thing at a time till the surge goes away.... Tedd
