Octane booster
Octane booster
I have been running 92 octane ethanol free gas in my 455, and while the car generally runs smoother at low rpms, I have noticed it knocks when I hit passing gear where 92 octane 10 percent ethanol gas does not cause this to happen. So, I tried Royal Purple octane booster since it was BOGO at O'Reilly's. I have to say the regular $15 price is steep, but the stuff works. No knocking and I never have been able to get up to 105 in 15 seconds before using it.
Here in SC I can get 87 Octane Ethanol Free. I will occasionally mix in some Lucas Octane Booster in my 79 Hurst Olds, and my 1994 3.4L Cutlass. They claim it will bump the number up by 3. Fair enough.
Mine gets faster after I change the oil or wax it, too. It's easy to just get a crap tank-full out of the pump.
The only one I have found that works is Torco. The Race Gas concentrate requires too much- 1qt to 5gal.

I've had two fill ups of 92 ethanol free gas from different stations cause knocking. I have gotten numerous fill ups with with 92 ethanol 10 percent with no knocking. I have videoed my speedometer on numerous occasions and it usually takes over 16 seconds to pass 100 based on the time signature at launch, sometimes longer, never faster. Using the same method, I was at 105 in 15 seconds after using octane boost. My speedometer is accurate based on GPS.
