Octane Booster

Greetings. Does octane booster work? My freash 455 (10:1) does not ping with 93, but I was wondering if it would increase perfomance. If so, who sells a quility brand? Thanks.

Higher octane prevents premature ignition and hence the pinging you refer to. It's not a performance enhancer. If you are not getting knock with the gas you're currently using, there is no reason to raise the octane even higher. In fact, you might try a lower octane gas and see if it knocks. If it doesn't knock on 93, maybe it won't knock on 91. Etc. Using the lower octane gas will save you money at the pump.

the higher octane will also reduce performance as it burns slower and has less energy per gallon. you want to use the lowest octane that will allow the engine to run with no detonation in optimal tune. the reason for higher octane is to allow higher compression, etc. the higher compression is what makes the power, the higher octane just lets you use it without detonation.
