Garage Fire Alarm Detector

Normally smoke detectors are not recommended because of exhaust fumes. Heat detectors are supposed to be used.

I would like a smart (WiFi /Alexa) detector for when I am away. The only ones I see are SMOKE detectors. Do smoke detectors work "OK" in garages? I could mount it in the front of the garage, well away from the exhaust.

Thanks

Today, I ordered from Amazon: a heat sensor alarm and an X-sense wi-fi alarm listener. We shall see.

Installation is one thing. How about actual functionality? Smoke detectors work so well because smoke diffuses quickly and gets to a smoke detector mounted way up high on a wall or ceiling in a matter of seconds from anywhere in the room. But a HEAT detector, I don't know. What if the fire starts on the other side of the room from where the detector is? How much burning could take place before the heat level in the location of the detector gets high enough to trigger it? I would think it could be many minutes. Maybe several heat detectors are needed placed all around the garage.

Also, how do you test a heat detector?
