I like what I see from the Bulls against Dolphins. Appear to have good conviction & execution…better than Dolphins, IMO.

Chris, I have no idear why but [Norm may know] but ginger ale was what dear old mom made us drink to settle the tummy, Age also plays a BIG role in digestion. My father NEVER could handle raw onions or diary. Growing up I ate chili dags [varsity of course] piled with onion and washed it down with a PC plain chocolate milk] about the age of 40 onions and milk started making me violently ill. I guess I inherited my fathers gut, I now have a fragile glass stomach which is a major PITA

My Mom used to have us drink Ginger Ale for upset stomach & nausea, as well. I don't know any specifics regarding Ginger Ale for settling the tummy but I surely doubt the Ginger Ale they produce today is anything similar which may have historically been passed down through the ages. It's likely one or several phenolic compounds contained in Ginger root. An entire branch of organic chemistry is devoted to phenols, in medical/pharmaceuticals they're employed as antiseptics/antioxidants capable of killing fungus & viruses.

Lactase is an interesting enzyme. As Jim points out age plays a huge role in digestion, especially when it comes to lactase production. Mammals produce great quantities of lactase during developmental infancy specifically to breakdown lactose during breast feeding. After infancy lactase production is all but gone except in developed countries which (it is thought) continue to stimulate lactase production resulting from incorporating dairy products into diets. During the aging process animals/mammals (e.g. humans) lose the ability to produce significant amounts of lactase & will become lactose intolerant in varying degrees.

Good morning everyone.

Typical under-staffed Friday. Things are going fairly smooth, and I'm over 20 wheels an hour and a half before lunch. Not too bad. The lead didn't show up and didn't tell anyone. Nice.

When I was little Mom gave us 7Up when we were sick. I suspect it's the carbonation that settles the stomach, which would make pretty much any soda pop effective. Chris I'm a little concerned that you still aren't better, and that you've lost 9lbs in the process. Hm. If you find out what caused this let me know. I could stand to lose 9lbs. One time many years ago, I don't think there was really anything wrong with me, but whatever I ate emerged a short time later in the same state, ie no digestion whatsoever. After a couple days I was better. Weird.

Dan I would drive my convertible with the top down as long as it was over 40* . That's what the heater is for. The Corvair Folding Top Manual specifies 40* as the lowest temp. I suspect because of the plastic back window. My Cutlass had a glass backlight so I could probably have had the top down more.

It's Friday go out to lunch day. Wonder what I'll find in my fried rice this time. Hope everyone has a good day.

Mike - I’ve come to suspect the term ‘lead’ is a misnomer since I’ve never heard this lead does any leading whatsoever. A better term might be a ‘nuisance’?

He's better described by the alternate pronunciation of those letters. L-eh-d

Happy to report there was nothing in my shrimp fried rice that shouldn't have been.

Jim/Norm/Mike - Thanks for your concerns and comments on my ongoing belly issues. It means alot to me to have your support and well wishes.

Had my annual physical this morning. Other than my belly issues, the Doc said I look extremely healthy.

His initial diagnosis (without any imaging or scope) is that I have probably ulcerated my stomach lining from the daily use of fairly high dose (600mg/twice daily) Ibuprofen (NSAID) over the last 30-years that I've been using it to manage my arthritis pain/stiffness.
Remedies include:
- Cease the use of any Ibuprofen or other NSAID immediately
- Continue trying to eat small amounts of bland foods like clear broths, banana, white rice, plain toast, etc.
- He prescribed a medicine called Omeprazole to be taken before meals. The Omemprazole is supposed to both protect the stomach lining from additional damage, and assist the body in repairing damage that has already occurred. This would be taken for 1 to 2-months.

Well, that's the plan. I hope our local Walgreens gets my prescription done soon.

Hope everyone has a great day, and again I appreciate everyone's support and concern! 👍

Chris I hope this works for you. What did your doctor think about seeing you sick? As it happens, your stomach ailments have hit the internet.

Norm - Yes, I completely agree with your point. However, now looking back over the past couple months, I do remember having some belly aches that did not turn into the nausea/vomiting. I think it's possible that the dam finally broke, and my stomach's now definitely letting me know enough is enough. Guess we'll see over the next few weeks if I'm noticing improvement?

To add to what I posted earlier:
- The Omemprazole is already ready for pick-up.
- I got both the Flu and the Pneumonia vaccines today. My Doc did not recommend a Covid booster at this time, although I did inquire about it.
- Blood and Urine samples were given for a complete analysis.

1.2 g of Ibuprofen daily for 30 yrs?????

Dude, that’s the maximum recommended daily intake for no longer than 10 days.

You like living on the edge or what?

Mike - LoL on the Seinfeld short! It's funny in an odd way you asked what my Doc thought about me being ill. He actually commented that he had noticed from my chart that today was the 1st time I had seen him with an actual ailment. He made me promise to call and get back in to see him if I didn't start seeing improvement after a couple weeks on the medicine he prescribed.

Norm - You're right, livin on the edge. Only saving grace was the Ibuprofen was not your standard over the counter 200mg tablets. These were special prescription time release 600mg tablets that are specially formulated to supposedly be easier on the digestive tract. However, still a tremendous amount anyway you look at it.

Jim - My previous Doctor who I had for 30-years who started me on the Ibuprofen regimen was well aware of the risks, and informed me of them. That's why he put me on the specially formulated slow release prescription Ibuprofen. In addition, he monitored my kidney and liver performance every 6-months via urinalysis and bloodwork. There were never any signs of deteriorating kidney or liver function. My new Doctor that I've had for about 5-yrs now has only been monitoring functionality once a year during my annual physical. Still there has not been any signs of decreased functionality which I'm very thankful for. Good news is I've stopped using it and hopefully no long term damage has been done.

Omeprazole
This what I'm taking. Took 1200mg daily of Ibuprophen for years due to my back. Try to limit it's use now a days. Mike, feel free to go topless when it's 40°. The heater ain't enough.

So Dan, how's the Omeprazole working for you? I'm going to take my first one here in just a little bit.

Apparently, I wasn't the only one "living on the edge" in regard to the amount of Ibuprofen I was taking for my back pain/stiffness. I will say that back in the day I don't think there was a huge red flag about using 1200mg per day, spread out as two 600mg doses, 12-hours apart.

Mike - That Seinfeld episode is humorous & I think it was produced very shortly after Denise Richards donned her new bazookas. Supposedly, she accidentally torn them loose while filming that Special Forces weekly program after she jumped from a height into water - when they dislodged. That's messed up.

Glad no foreign bodies found in your Shrimp Fried Rice.

That's well done, Norm. Will there be poly, or is that a varnish?

Chris, permanent health problems suck, as I am afraid I will see on the near horizon soon. I have become a fan of pain relievers for headaches. I can take advil dual action, which is acetaminophen and ibuprofen, or tylenol sinus headache, which is sudofedrin (sp) and acetaminophen, and I can add more ibuprofen to either of those on the first dose. This is weekly at most.

H/O newsletter is done and waiting on final proofer, then off to the printer on Monday AM. Was thinking about driving one today, but slept in too much. Preparing for a 2 day appleseed clinic this weekend now, I need to brush up on my known distance lecture.

Began applying seal/stain - 1st coat. This will take time. Raw boards vs. sealed/stained boards. Each board will get x2 coats bottom, x3 coats top.

Thanks, John. Cabot Timber Oil is both a sealer & stain. Combines linseed oil for penetration, long-oil alkyds for durability, and pure tung oil for color and to repel water.

Good morning everyone.

Well we started at 4 this morning, not such a big deal when normal starting time is 5. Quite a few people are here but things are slow to get going.

Jamesbo I hope you have a good time at your reunion. Are they going to play the guy giving the Buckhead Boys speech?

Norm that looks real nice. Post 46 picture 2 looks like the heavens are shining down upon your work.

This afternoon if the rain stays away I'm going to mow. This after Awful house. Got a few other little things to accomplish as well. Maybe I'll do them topless.

Okay have a good weekend everyone.

John - I'm hoping there's nothing permanent about these bad gastrointestinal issues. Of course my arthritis is permanent, snd now I will need to find an alternative pain reliever to manage that pain. My Doctor said I should switch to extra strength Tylenol. I haven't had a single pain reliever since Sunday when the gastrointestinal stuff started and I'm getting by. The hardest is trying to sleep at night because it's difficult to be comfortable in any position.

Looking good Norm! It's nice you have that much space in the Man Cave to work a project like that without any threat of weather.

Jim - I'd love to help you on your farm. The 10 hr. drive makes it tough though. I love your place (from pictures you've shared). Enjoy your reunion & the Eskimo sisters.

I think Chris got a wake up call: 29 lbs of Ibuprofen in 30 yrs [1.2g/day x 30 days = 36 g/month x 12 months = 432 g/28 (g/oz) = 15.4 oz/yr x 30 yrs = 463 oz/16 (oz/lb) = 29lbs]

I took a post-graduate PhD course (Molecular Biochemistry) @ Marquette University (1998) before Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), such as Prilosec, became fashionable. Lucky to walk away w/ a "B" in that course.

Mike - Thanks. Yes the sun was shining down on me.

Chris - I know a guy who's been taking Oxycodone daily for 20 yrs for severe back pain w/ no side effects. Yeah, you build up a tolerance, but I think I'd (personally) prefer an opioid to other drugs. Hey buddy, be careful out there. You just can't find a good Opium Den anywhere.
