FK!! One of my best friends called me, cancer has returned. He had his gall bladder removed a couple of years ago due to cancer, and after treatment, all bloodwork and CT scans since then showed him to be cancer free. Prognosis is not good, he is going to the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion. We drank a lot of beers together when we were younger, I have known him for almost 50 years. Damn it, that sucks.

Dan - That does suck! My Mom had significant arterial blockage issues late in her life and had extensive exams/treatments at Cleveland Clinic. She was very pleased with the care she got there.
That sucks, Mike and Dan. Pull through, and I hope your buddy beats it, respectively. Hope Jim's doing well, too.
My mom's heading back after seeing her sister in Bloomington. My aunt is not doing well, multiple cancers, busted arm, CDiff infection. She's at a hospice place for a few days while my cousin recoups. Then, she either goes to a hospice care facility or back home with hospice care, and I can't imagine it being more than a few months. I've not made it up to see Ruth as much as I should. Her husband passed some 3.5 years ago. I usually go when my mom visits. She was always good to me, being a lot older than my mom, and their mom died very young, so Ruth was family head and host for a long time. My cousins do their own thing, so once my aunt and another uncle are gone, I doubt I'll visit much.
I have a head cold from either a coworker at Kentucky last week, or running around in the damn cold. My buddy also got a cold, so he blames this coworker. I'm plugged enough to do a wicked Slowpoke Rodriguez impersonation. I am working from home the next couple days and staying put this weekend. Bought a lot of hot cocoa and brownie mix and stuff, if I'm going to be respiratorily ill, I am going to eat well and sleep a lot.
I've been staving off a sinus infection, as well. I can tell when it's beginning to creep in - get a little bit of the chills, slight headache, sinus dripping &/or clogged & this time (like sometimes has occurred in the past), a slight pain developing in my neck &/or back. I've found over several years Emergen-C is an exceptional product to knock down/out a cold (Rhinovirus). Aside from the excellent supplemental active ingredients besides Vitamin C, it has the added benefit of getting directly into your bloodstream - pronto (since it's dissolved & not time released). My best-case scenario for dealing with a Rhinovirus is two tablets of Alka Seltzer dissolved in water then one packet of Emergen-C added to the dissolved Alka Seltzer. Again, Alka Seltzer (two tablets) contains 2,000 mg Anhydrous citric acid + 650 mg Aspirin. Each tablet contains 325 mg Aspirin therefore a normal dosage of two Aspirin tablets. But, here again, the benefit is how rapidly/effectively it begins to relieve symptoms - unlike tablets which must dissolve in the gut over time, Emergen-C + Alka Seltzer go to work - pronto.
Headlamps aligned & fog lights removed (w/o having to remove bumper). It was a cluster. I had to basically disassemble each fog light behind the bumper & even then it was a cluster to remove each component but they're out.
I awoke at midnight, noticed the wind had died down to basically zero mph, popped my head outdoors & noticed the temp. was modestly increasing. Not a normal night, but with the torpedo fired up in the man-cave it was pleasant working conditions. New fog lights should be delivered this afternoon.
Norm and Olds64 - Hope you guys' efforts to reduce the effects of your cold/sinus issues work and you get feeling better soon.
Sure seems like there's alot of different bugs going around right now. My grandson's hockey team is supposed to travel from St. Louis to Chicago today for a 3-day/4-game tournament. As of yesterday afternoon their Coach had.gotten notice of at least 3 players who would.not be.making the trip due to having the Flu. I don't know if the weather is having anything to do with it or not, but we've been bouncing back and forth from extreme low temps to extreme warm temps for awhile now?
Both dogs got me up at 0530 and wanted outside. When they finished their business both wanted to go back to bed with Mom, but I was wide awake and stayed up. Turned the tv on a national news source and heard about the American Airlines passenger jet and Army helicopter mid-air collision over the Potomac, no survivors. What a sickening feeling and horrible way to start a day. My heart and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones.
Hope everyone has a great day!

So I'm not the only one sick. Well you know what they say, Missouri loves company. Dan that's sure too bad about your friend.
I'm going to the orthopedic after work today. Just a general check up I guess you could say to make sure everything is still in the right place and working. My doctor isn't there anymore so I have no idea who I'll be seeing.
Peace for your aunt, John. it doesn't seem fair. You work hard all your life and then hope to retire and relax a litte, then you get something despicable and it's all shot to hell. I rarely if ever see my cousins, either. They are all far away. Most are in the Quad Cities area. A couple are in Minnesota.
Ah, back to work. Got to break with 15 wheels, that's pretty good. Hope it keeps up.

Mike - I hope you get a clean bill of health today at your check-up! 🤞
AA was on short final - this means it was either at or just below 200'. The Blackhawk PIC is supposed to follow ATC directives. ATC should never have released the Blackhawk. IMO, this is a direct violation of ATC. You don't release any aircraft into the flight path of a known aircraft on short final. ATC fail!!! Supposedly, ATC asked Blackhawk PIC if he/she had a visual on the AA aircraft. Doesn't matter - you don't release an aircraft in the direction of another aircraft on short final - period! ATC fail!!!
I just heard about this myself. DC is a funny place to fly a plane. You have to follow the river and you can't fly over any of the memorials or monuments or the White House or the Capitol. Airspace is very restricted and very busy. Not a terrific place for an airport if you can't fly over anything around it.
Thanks Chris. But this time it might be better for me if they find something wrong.
Norm that stuff sounds like a nice drink even if you're not sick.

Norm - I've heard all kinds of conflicting reports about what altitudes the two aircraft should have been flying at at their respective points of their standard flight paths, and that those altitudes should not have conflicted. However, one thing's for certain, and to your point, it was ATC's job to ensure the 2 aircraft did not get close enough to one another to collide.
I flew into Reagan or Dulles on my way to Headquarters probably at least 40-times during my 35-years and never really gave it a 2nd thought. This really gives you pause and makes you really think about how busy and congested that airspace is!
Apparently it was a helicopter on training. I think deep state wanted to take out whoever of Trump's cabinet picks was on that airplane. I got five bucks the pilot of the chopper was trans.
Mike - You're correct about DCA (Reagan). I likely have ~100 inbound/outbound flights @ DCA prior to 911 & post-911. I mention 911 because they changed local ATC traffic patterns post-911. Ugh....this makes my blood boil to a degree. I've talked w/ so many commercial ATP PICs who have had issues w/ DCA ATC. One thing is they allow far too many helicopters to fly in & about <200' in a busy controlled airspace. That **** has to stop. I had a similar situation departing MKE (Milwaukee) airport Southbound for DPA (Dupage County Airport) while I was PIC in a 152 ~1973. I am very, very surprised we don't see more of these incidents. There are many avoidance incidence occurring today than ever before - someone needs to step-up and take control of this airspace because IMO it sucks.

Chris - A fixed-wing aircraft on short final has priority. Helicopters are allowed to maneuver under 200' in DCA controlled airspace; yet, this is DCA "controlled" ATC airspace. ATC failed to control this airspace is how I see it.

I don't know what the answer is. Close the airport? A little drastic but the old saying applies here, if it saves just one life... This time it would have saved 60. I didn't hear about any cabinet picks on the plane but I did here several Olympic types were. I came across the video of the two aircraft crashing. I didn't watch it. That's just watching people die a horrible death and I don't need to see that.
Just to clarify something. Whether you're a helicopter PIC or a fixed-wing PIC, both yourself & ATC are required to make verbal communication regarding inbound & outbound flight intentions i.e. all inbound & outbound departure course headings. As PIC you communicate your flight path to ATC (both inbound & outbound). ATC is obligated to acknowledge your intended inbound/outbound flight path - ATC is not required to confirm your flight path unless ATC deviates from your call-out (verbally communicated intended flight path) in which case ATC states a variance to your flight path. Bottom line - ATC "owns" this flight space & ATC failed, IMO. Someone better get fired over this.
Mike - I watched it. Terrible lack of communication and traffic avoidance on the part of ATC. ATC says to helicopter pilot: You see the inbound aircraft? Helo pilot replies yeah we see it. Sorry, fail! ATC should not take the word of the PIC in this situation. Plain & simple, you don't place the burden of responsibility on the helo pilot thereby removing yourself [ATC] from responsibility - YOU (ATC) take responsibility! ATC owns this airspace. ATC should never have allowed the helo PIC to maneuver anywhere near that airspace on short final. ATC fail!
I need a light for my fog. Just blowing my nose and eating carby food today. I think I'm on the downhill slope. Raining. Still have some ice on the driveway, it's mostly gone.
I have the urge to buy a huge 98 for the power tour.
Fog lights installed. I need to align them, reinstall the front grille & reinstall the front grille guard. The best part about the installation came afterwards when I removed that thin sheet of protective plastic covering. Oh yeah...
I'll only mention this as something of significant interest which often is NEVER conveyed by health practitioners. C-Diff (Claustridium difficile) is an OBLIGATE anaerobe. I highlight obligate to make a clear point. Oxygen concentrations >~0.5% kill C. difficile. This is significant in managing everyone's health - esp. as we age & esp. as it relates to the food we eat. It resides literally everywhere where O2 is sub-optimal - in particular in soil & the intestinal tract. Normally, your gut will keep tract & ward off C. difficile. It is not amazing we aren't all dead from viral, bacterial & fungal infections, what is amazing is how little simple information is not conveyed to the general public - in particular health care professionals. When is the last time you have EVER heard of ANY health care practitioner suggest for you to eat yoghurt while taking antibiotics? Health care in America does an exceptional job of turning a blind eye.
Here is my very specific point. Most people DO NOT ingest the proper consortia of bacteria to maintain an active healthy gut flora/fauna. And, when placed on antibiotics for any length of time, you can kiss your normal gut flora/fauna good bye and produce an optimum environment for C. difficile to survive & grow. The best way to manage gut health is to eat yoghurt w/ active cultures of Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus & (very importantly) Lactobacillus acidophilus. L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus & (very importantly) L. acitophilus will knock the dog **** out of C. difficile.
You should all do yourselves a favor - as you age & antibiotics (esp. antibiotics derived from Penicillin e.g. Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, etc.) become more prevalent in fighting serious infections pound down some yoghurt. Pound down some yoghurt whenever you have the opportunity.
There exists ~500 - 1,000 different species of bacteria in a normal human gut w/ an average amount of ~100 trillion bacteria. Bacteria, if they don't eat/consume other bacteria, bacteria produce waste products as their cells die - this then influences the gut flora/fauna environment. Next time you actually purchase some yoghurt (if you happen to follow any of my advice) purchase yoghurt with an an active culture of Lactobacillus acidophilus - look for it on the label. You'll be amazed how many yoghurt products do not contain L. acidophilus.
Norm, the possible reason that my mom got C-Diff, was that she was recovering from back surgery, and I'm quite sure antibiotics were prescribed. At 82 years of age, she would have been susceptible to it. She then had sepsis. That was the end.
Dan - Sorry for your Mom's outcome. I sincerely wasn't speaking/directing my dialogue towards you or anyone else. I simply found an opportunity to share the importance of maintaining gut health, in particular as we age. Cheers.
I like Chobani yoghurt products. In today's supposed health-awareness (un)conscious delirium, everything requires a marketing ploy i.e. pre- & pro-biotics; because w/o a marketing ploy who will ever buy the stuff?
I hate the taste of plain regular yoghurt...icky. I mix/match yoghurt w/ whatever I damn well please. Don't listen to the haters and supposed know-it-alls, oh the M&Ms are bad for you with their sugar, or this that & the other bullshit these smarty pants experts are selling. Eat the damn yogurt for the benefits of the active bacterial cultures. If it takes M&Ms, oatmeal, granola, chocolate or whatever who gives a rat's ***. I like the Chobani Creations Greek Yogurt Mocha Tiramisu, but I like most of the Chobani yoghurt products.
Chobani yogurts contain live and active cultures, including:
Lactobacillus acidophilus: A probiotic that may have health benefits
Lactobacillus casei: A probiotic that may have health benefits
Bifidus: A probiotic that may have health benefits
Streptococcus thermophilus: A probiotic that may have health benefits
Lactobacillus bulgaricus: A probiotic that may have health benefits
Lactobacillus rhamnosus: A probiotic that may have health benefits
The AMA is a thorn in my ***. It's my night to be on the soap box. I'll stop w/ the AMA (and the AHA) in a minute; but, anyone recall years ago AMA/AHA telling us how bad eggs were for you? Big **** & bull story is what it was and is.
