The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Curious if anyone has created an official conversion chart or rating chart? Pretty sure we have a good start. I mean, is an *** Load greater than **** Load? Is a **** Load greater than a **** Load?

I've been on a snowmobile a couple times in Copper Harbor, MI in dead of winter to find no vehicles anywhere - well, maybe one truck for every 100 snowmobiles. The couple times I was there (in winter on a snowmobile) was in the 1980s & again in the 1990s.
The record snowfall in Copper Harbor, Michigan was 390.4" winter of 1978–1979. Still lots of winter remains & Copper Harbor now has a total of 140.25", a ways to go, yet.

This rating system is something we need to work on and perfect. We might even get it enshrined in the Library of Congress someday as the Official Measurement of Government Effectiveness . . . Or Ineffectiveness if you prefer to look at it that way???

Chris - Glad you found some laughs. That trip sounds miserable. I’ve been on one or two quite similar i.e. walking in fields of snow supposedly hunting grouse/pheasants only to return empty handed every day suffering frostbite.
I couldn't help but chuckle to myself as I was writing about it. Dawn asked me what I was laughing about and I told her the story, and I laughed some more while she was cracking up. We might as well of went on a hunting trip to the dark side of the Moon!
Got up there and the snow was up to our ********,
Norm, look what popped up in my news feed. "Between freezing temperatures and swaths of snow, Michigan is having its fair share of winter weather this week. In the Upper Peninsula, Ironwood hit 28 degrees below zero Tuesday—one of the lowest temperature readings in the state.
As of Wednesday, Keweenaw County has had 140.25 inches of snowfall since its first snow of season on Oct. 31, according to county data. The National Weather Service of Grand Rapids"

Chris - Glad you enjoyed it.
Two nights ago in the middle of the freezing winter storm I wanted something light to watch. I watched Barbie. It isn't a simple light-hearted comedy which I had originally thought. There's a pretty cool/clever story line behind it. I was seven yrs. old when the Barbie doll came out. I remember it clearly. I remember also when the Ken doll came out. Anyways - it's worth a watch but might not have as much meaning to those who might not recall when the Barbie doll was introduced (hit the streets). A rather cool assemblage of actors/actresses.

However, speaking of other movies, I had never seen "Tommy". I love the Who's music, so I started to watch it. OMG, I think you must be on some kind of hallucinogenic trip to enjoy that. I could only make it thru about 20-minutes. Thoroughly disappointed!!!
I saw The Who perform Tommy live at the Auditorium Theater, Chicago, 1970. Phenomenal performance & a phenomenal theater. It was sorta hard for me to follow...well, more difficult than my friends who I was with. I understood the basics behind the story, but that was about it. I gained much more appreciation for "Tommy" (Walker, the boy character) months/years afterwards. I actually didn't know he was a fictional person when I saw the opera, I thought he was a real person...doh! I recall a couple of my friends chiding me about not knowing he was a fictional character.
Ok, so the movie of Tommy is kinda meh. The album is much better.
Now, you want to rock and roll? Pink Floyd's The Wall is your answer. The Wall is simultaneously a great studio double album, a great live show, and a great movie. It, however, is a rock opera, so there will be weird symbolism and representation in there. For instance, Pink, the main character, loses his mind and adopts a fascist identity as a leader of a fascist movement. He is not ACTUALLY Hitler, it is a representation of the extreme devotion of fans to superstars and they are using symbolism a la the Third Reich to make the point. On the other hand, some of the lyrics are a bit much for some people.
It's my favorite album, the next rock album to be released after I was born (nine days later). That being said, Tommy would be better off without the 4th side, and The Wall would be better off missing a couple songs off side 2 and most of side 3. The nice thing about both albums is that it's a story and it flows as you listen to it. I think Tommy has a better main riff, best heard in Go to the Mirror, Boy. The Wall's main riff is probably best heard in Hey You.

I’ve watched The Wall a minimum of a dozen times. Watched Roger Waters perform most of it live. The Wall is eclipsed by no others. I think I burned through (literally) two or three Darkside of the Moon albums on my first 33 1/3 RPM phonograph player always wakening to the needle scratching away when the player didn’t automatically shut off.

BTW, I still have my original 33 1/3 ROM pressed platter of Dark Side of the Moon. Of course I own The Wall. Hell, I have an original Verve 33 1/3 RPM pressed platter of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. I’ve caught FZ live numerous times. First time was Ravinia, Highland Park, IL (1969). Years later when I was a heavy tape trader I scabbed a 2nd generation soundboard tape of that concert. Sweet.
John - You are one lucky guy to get that tape. I was a tape trader for ~25 yrs. I traded everything in mostly rock n roll, GD, etc. May have traded close to 1500+ tapes. Had at one time maybe 3500 hrs of soundboard tapes. Not all great, but most were. Lots of Hot Tuna, early Jefferson Airplane. I have a 3rd generation soundboard tape Jim Morrison live (by himself) at The Matrix (1969?).
I loved tape trading. Never sold a single tape - only traded with the die-hard. After some time you get recognized as the “dude” with the tapes. People begging you to traded with them. I had two Nakamichii pro decks and made my own labels.
I think the Floyd are my favorite band in the rock genre. Their catalog is large and has at least five eras, all the musicians are superb, and it's quite a thing to have lyrics that are that cutting, with instrumentals that can put you that much into a zone, or solos that can move you that much, all from the same band. I commented the other day that I don't consider the Dark Side album to be their best, and that is not fair to that album, because, for any other band, it would be their best.
Oh man... the memories!! I watched The Who "Tommy" maybe in 1995 or so, it was already old then, and I agree with you Chris- it prolly would have been better if I was stoned. I saw the 1974 version with Tina Turner, Elton John and others when it came out at a drive in. I enjoyed that one too, but it also would prolly be better w/ smoke. I remember after the 74 movie I got a album of it and a older friend of mine had a older Who version- we swapped them and both of us didn't like the other version as well. I think I like them both equally now. And Pink Floyd... I love The Wall- album and movie, I also saw the Roger Waters Wall concert - That was awesome!!
Still, no headlamps. FEDEX said the box was on the truck out for delivery yesterday - never arrived. Another FEDEX e-mail says it's on the truck out for delivery today - we'll see. I actually saw the FEDEX truck drive by my house yesterday, but no goodies for me. And, it wasn't some FEDEX truck from a different location, per se. There's only one FEDEX truck which delivers to my town and it originates ~2.5hrs South (Wilmington, NC). This winter storm has likely created a huge backlog on deliveries. All I can do is wait, fingers crossed for today.
It reached ~39°F yesterday so I hung the one overhead lamp assembly which now has two new ballasts - works like a champ. I'll climb the scaffolding I erected in the man-cave & remove the other overhead lamp assembly, today. That one will get the ballast bypass & LED installation. Will take a little time determining exactly which T5 lamps I want to install.
I hope the headlamps aren't going to be too much of a big deal. They're a nuisance to remove & I'll have to re-align the beams once I get them installed. Supposedly, going to get to 47°F, this afternoon.

The snow has wrecked logistics for weeks.
Quadrophenia, in addition to annoyingly implying quadraphonic sound, is an interesting bird. It's got some smash hits in between some obscure songs. The mod culture was like proto hipster.

Good morning guys,
Norm - Good luck with the projects, I hope your headlamps get there and the install is not too bad. After I watched "In the Heart of the Sea" last night, I watched "Cinderella Man" about the life of Heavyweight Champion James J. Braddock. Since I used to be really interested in boxing, I knew who James Braddock was, but didn't really know any specifics about his life because it occurred in the late 1920's - mid-1930's. I thought it was really good and touching.
Supposed to get up into the mid-40's here today, then another drop for just one day to mid-30's, then up to the mid-40's to low 50's for more than a week. My North facing backyard is still like an ice-rink except for where I ran the snowblower for the dogs. I'm really hoping this next long stretch of warmer weather gets rid of it all.
Went with my wife this morning to pick up a bedroom dresser, mirror, and nightstand. We carried all the drawers, mirror, and the nightstand in thru the garage. The dresser itself, even without the drawers, is too big and heavy for my wife and I to get it safely down the indoor stairs down to her shop, we'll need to take it down the side yard (which is clear now) and in the back gate thru the basement walkout. Trouble is, there's still a big slab of glare ice 2" thick between the backyard fence gate and the basement walkout. I just spent about 45-minutes with my Axe trying to bust it up so we can hopefully get it indoors safely. Or, we could just wait a few days, which probably won't be the case because she's gonna want to work on it.
Gabe's got a hockey game this evening at 7pm that I'm going to. His brother Keegan has one tomorrow afternoon we're both going to.
Hope everyone has a great day!
