John and Chris, looks like you guys got this one and we didn't. I took 3 Vets to Ann Arbor VA yesterday. There was a little freezing rain on the windshield just south of here but didn't cause a problem. A little snow spitting on the way back- no prob. While there I talked to another driver who had came up from Ohio. He said it was bad on I75 south and went thru 4-5 inches in spots. Glad snow blower worked good for you, Chris. Yeah mine has one of those fuel bulbs on it- I pump it alot-like 15-16 times before I pull rope- starts 1st crank.

John - Four of those trees look like Eastern Hemlock - do you know? Beautiful wintry picture.

Good morning everyone.

Cold enough to snow here, glad it didn't. If I ever move back up north I'm going to install a heated driveway. When I worked at O'Hare the sloped driveways and roads around the concourses were heated. It looked funny when they would steam and the rest of the place was full of snow and ice.

John are those your trees? Make that picture into a Christmas card.

Decent start to the morning. No one is in a hurry, and as shocking as this seems, the lead isn't here. I need to go down to the nurse some time today for a hearing test. Also need to stop into the credit union and the Emory clinic. That will be a nice little jaunt.

Well Happy Tuesday everyone.

Greg - Good on you brother for getting the Vets over to Ann Arbor, especially this time of year! I'm sure they really appreciated your effort! 👍

My grandmother grew up in the Iron Range of Minnesota in a town called Buhl. Say jewel but with a b. She commented that there was "[something] on one end and a Carnegie library on the other." Might have been a school or a church on the first end, I can't recall. She also said "back when the men were men and the women weren't." Buhl was a mine town, they shaft mined iron. Being a company town, the lots were laid out sensibly and there were steam pipes to service your house for radiators. The pipes were under your sidewalk and front walk, so shoveling was lessened dramatically.

I think I stayed in Ann Arbor once. I wanted to go to the Corvair museum, which was in the Hudson museum, in Ypsilanti. Cool place. It was the last still functioning Hudson dealership. The guy that owned it would restore and sell Hudsons, and had a bunch of parts he'd sell. Beautiful cars, and the building was the original building from the 20s. They have every scrap of paperwork from when the place opened.

Got all my work errands run and just finished lunch. I think I need a nap. When I get home I'm gonna work on the tree some more. Man that's a never ending project.

Chris, from what I read today, Montgomery is back for the playoffs. John, I was wondering how crappy that storm system was going to be in your area. Good to see that you made it through with minimal damage.

That is good news! Even if he is only 80% of what he was during the regular season it will help take some of the load off of Gibbs. Plus, Montgomery specialized in those 1 to 3-yard power runs where he is so effective. Things are looking up! One of their Offensive tackles went out during the Vikings game, but I can't remember his name. I'm gonna try to find a status on him?

Dan - I found the injury update report Campbell gave to the Detroit Free Press. Kevin Zeitler is the Offensive Tackle that was knocked out of the Vikings game. His injury was not as severe as originally thought and he is currently "Questionable". I had also forgotten that Rookie Cormer Terrion Arnold was knocked out of that game. Again, his injury is not as severe as originally thought and he is also "Questionable ".

I think it was Zeitler that went out in the 1st half, and Arnold went out in the 2nd. I was very concerned when Arnold went out because the Secondary is already badly depleted, but they did an excellent job even after he went out.

Good morning everyone.

Slow start for us this morning. No lead again. Today is go out to lunch day.

I saw an ad for a car for sale and it said, no trades no jacks. What does no jacks mean?

Today is Elvis's birthday. Thank you, thank you very much. Hey Greg, how's Purple Elvis?

Not really much going on. Couldn't work on the tree yesterday because there was too much weight resting on what I wanted to cut off. The saw would have been bound up for sure. So I'm gonna get a floor jack to put under it and lift it up a little. I cut up smaller branches instead. Got a lot done.

Hope everyone enjoys their Hump Day.

Greg - I see you pulled the trigger on that 1971 AM/FM stereo. You going to pull the slider off your current radio & install on the one you're buying?

Good morning guys,

0930 and it's 19° outside. Winter's just started and I'm already sick of it! No big plans for today other than I need to to get our Water/Sewer/Trash payment to City Hall before it's delinquent. I usually just drop it off rather than mail it and save a stamp because I go right by it every time we go to town, but it's an inconvenience right now because of the storm. Neighbors have said the main road out to town is not too bad, but our mail has not come the last two days, and the Trash and Recycling Company has already informed people they are going to be a week behind for most routes. We're supposed to get another 1 to 3-inches Thursday night into Friday morning, that's all we need! Yuk!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Jim, you should feel better, at least.

My friend was still without power and all the propane heaters were sold out, so I told him to come get mine. He says the main roads are fine, but there's a line hanging which is why we are not seeing any utility trucks of any sort back here. As I type this, a guy has shown up with a backhoe/front end loader and is plowing with the bucket. Has made a couple passes. I dug out the truck yesterday. I am not sure I want to shovel my driveway yet. The trashy neighbors used their passel of kids to shovel their drive; I would've hired them but they went back inside.

It's been cold, yeah. Today's high will be 41°F (wind chill 37°F). Overnight lows below freezing but above 25°F (windchill well below 25°F). The entire country's going to get another blast of same beginning Thursday/Friday remaining for several more days. It's why we call it winter.
Slept great & late - felt good. Eggs Benedict w/ asparagus for lunch, once I remove my *** from this chair. Everyone around here complaining about the cold weather - they have no clue what cold weather is about.

I was just thinking this today. If I were up home today and it was 40* I'd be ecstatic. But I'm in Atlanta today and it's 40 and I hate it. By the way, high today in Park Forest, IL, is 21. Low tonight will be 9. Holy Smokes.

Certainly cold for your neck of the woods, especially when you're not used to it. Surre doesn't take long to get tired of it does it!

Mike - Thinking back, it's all relative right? When we were kids up North, sledding, ice skating, snow forts, snowball fights, we were out in it every chance we got and we didn't bat an eye. It was a joy back then, now it's just a PITA.

I don't remember it being bitter cold when I was growing up. I loved playing out in the snow but I'm guessing it was 20s at the most, anything colder we probably stayed in. It got to be an annoyance when I had to shovel the driveway and not get paid for it.

I've been running on my old Sharp Carousel, which is a medium microwave that probably is a 1200 W unit, but I want my Samsung all in one unit back.

The transformer and magnetron replacement did not do it, and there's diodes around here somewhere, but I ordered door switches and replaced those. No change. The fault is that sometimes, for no rhyme or reason, it will not engage the microwave portion of tonight's show. Lights are on, fan is going, turntable is turning, LCD is counting down, it goes ding, but no heat. Sometimes it works.

I then remembered I had a salvaged main board from a grey market Ebay sale. I tore back into the thing, finally figured out the LCD and mobo comes off for working on it, swapped the mobo, plugged it all back in, buttoned up, and now it's working great, ten cycles at least in a row where it heats. It's not the most powerful unit, but I am ok with that, I just like that it opens like an oven (better for the kitchen layout) and will do oven things as well as microwave and defrosts nicely.

I'll test it more, then slide it into its spot. The Sharp will go back into storage; I'll need it at the new place if not before then.

John - That's impressive. I like how you think out-of-the-box. I'm the same. You swapped out for a salvaged mobo - brilliant, darn-right brilliant.

Good morning everyone.

Happy Birthday Jamesbo! Still better looking than my once girlfriend, whose birthday is also today. How'd things go yesterday?

Tiger was sick all night long. Got up this morning and saw that he had barfed on the couch. Why oh why does he think he needs to get up on something to ralf. He seemed fine this morning but I hated leaving Mom with a sick dog. Maybe he won't ralf today. I should have stayed home.

Norm that's just mean. I'm twitching.

The news guy this morning made it sound like Pacific Palisades, CA has all but burned up. Hope someone can check on that guy Tedd Thompson.

Time to see what's up with work today. Lead or no lead. Equipment failure or no equipment failure. It's a crapshoot. Hope everyone has a good day.

Wifey got up at 0630 to pee. Looked out window and noticed neighbors place had a orange light inside (No one there). I went over to find cold as hell- no heat. Orange was from a electric heater in bathroom. Pilot out on boiler and water heater- yep- no gas- empty! Went to all the sinks and turned on water- one was frozen- left on and after a few minutes came on- Think caught that just in time! Called neighbor and she called gas supplier. They came right out and filled... So seems ok - I will recheck. It says 3 below on our outside thermometer!!
