So, I got an automated message yesterday from Hagerty Classic Car Insurance reminding me my policy on the 4-4-2 insurance would be coming up for renewal on November 8th. If you have a Hagerty online account, which I do, it gives you access to their Valuation Tools/Research for any Year/Make/Model, for various grades of cars with #1 being Concours and #4 being a driveable but rough example. I don't take their valuations as the Bible, but I do think they're reasonably accurate based on what I have observed myself from perusing several "Classic Cars for Sale" sites and Private Sales.

I did however find a couple of what I considered surprises. I have observed that the pricing on many mid-60's - early 70's Muscle Cars has overall been trending slightly downward the past couple of years after peaking between 2021 -2023. I was surprised to see the valuation of my '67 has held steady the past couple of years, and has in fact increased 3% over the past year, a nice surprise. Another nice surprise was that my renewal premium will be $5 less than last year for full replacement value.

Along these lines of valuation, I actually had a guy approach me at the Car Show this past Saturday and he seriously first offered me $40K for the car, and when I declined, he said what about $45K. After graciously declining again, I told him I thought $45 was a very fair offer, but with my car I know what I have, I enjoy the hell out of it, and I would need to find something to replace it. He then gave me his business card with his name/number/email and said if I ever change my mind to contact him. I was pretty much blown away!

There's alot of truth in that statement, but the time it occupies keeps me out of the Honky Tonks!

It's all right to have a pasttime or two.

Chris, 45k is what you would sell it for if you needed to sell. If someone approaches you, it's more. The Covid bubble is gone. Your car is not a stick, not a ragtop, not a 70-72, and not a W-30. I think that peak Oldsmobile muscle, perfect resto, 1970 442 W-30 convertible with red paint, black interior, M-22 stick, w-27 rear, rallye pack, FM single speaker radio, buckets, no console, black stripes, SSIs, manual disc, and nothing else, assumed that combo could be had, would top the market at 120k. A perfect resto hardtop automatic at 90k. A perfect resto normal 442 at 70k, and a perfect 67 442 at 60. Those are swags. High dollar comes from rarity and desirability. While I think any 67 442 will beat any non W-30 car through 69, and that helps, once the 455s showed up, it was another level of desirability.

I could not give my left nut to still own my ‘67 4-4-2 I bought in 1969 because it’s likely still in the back seat. ROFLMAO

Damn insurance was more than my monthly car payment. It had to go.

John - I will gladly defer to you on the value of these desirable 4-4-2's and W-30's, you are much more knowledgeable than I am. However, it is encouraging to me that you think I could get more than $45K out of mine if someone really wanted it.

I am curious what value you would place on my buddy's '71 W-30 4-speed Vert? Car has all the W-30 provenance, and complete frame-off/nut & bolt resto was just completed last summer. Also, keep in mind the owner/builder is probably the most knowledgeable Old's mechanical expert in the entire Midwest. From the 2 times I've seen it in person, the car looks flawless.

Chris, that is probably a 100k car. Give or take 10k each way.

Thanks John, that's right in line with the range I was thinking. I don't know if I'd even be capable of owning a car like that and still enjoy it, I'd be afraid to even pull it out of the garage! I guess if I was very wealthy and/or had several cars I could enjoy it, but that will never be the case. My buddy that owns it does not have a ****-ton of $'s (from what I observe) or several cars, but to his credit he's still getting it out in public every once in awhile which I really admire!

Supposedly, the Delta table saw I purchased on-line @ eBay Monday evening is either out-of-stock or damaged. Received a message last night order cancelled, refund issued. Ugh. Lowe's is practically next door to the NCDMV. After I (hopefully) renew my driver's license I'll see what Lowe's has in stock. Motorcycle lift pump is loaded on the UPS delivery truck.

Norm - Bummer about the saw. Good luck with the exam (if required), and I hope Lowes has an alternative saw for a decent price.

Good morning everyone

Things are okay this morning and going smoothly. You know why? The lead isn't here. That probably means he won't be here tomorrow, either, which is fine on my Friday.

Chris didn't you originally go looking for a Dodge Coronet? If they are less than 442s you could trade out and keep some money. By the way, the place in Celina evidently got my email because someone replied and said that yellow convertible went to Toledo.

I'd love to have a radial arm saw. Once in a while I look but I either find junk or someone is really proud of what they have. I had a big DeWalt, from the 30s, when I was a kid. It was my dad's actually, but I used it all the time. That thing was awesome. I may have said something about it before. When Dad died Mom sold it and I wouldn't talk to her for a week.

So I've had this idea that I'm actually fairly serious about. Since I can't find the pickup I want, I should go buy a really big car, like Jamesbo's mom's Deuce and a quarter, or a Toronado, or better yet some giant Mopar, and take the trunk lid off. That's about the size of a pickup.

Lunch.

Mike - When I first decided I wanted to buy a late 60's to early 70's Muscle Car I wasn't firmly decided on any one Year/Make/Model. I knew I didn't want one that everyone else had, specifically no Mustang, Camaro, Chevelle, Corvette, etc. I did not have my eye on a '67 4-4-2, but remembered how much I loved my Dad's '67 CS and knew the 4-4-2 was an option package on that, so I kept my eye on those. I also was keeping my eyes out for Coronet R/T's and SuperBees, but they were always higher for the same quality car as the 4-4-2 's. When my car came up for sale at $28K and after my inspection, I knew it was a good buy after everything else I had looked at over a 2-yr period. Plus, I loved the look of the car and the performance. If I get rid of my motorcycles, I will go looking for a 1967 Coronet R/T or late 60's SuperBee, but will keep my Old's.

Hi guys,

Summer is back, and with I'll intent. High of 91 today, 93 tomorrow, and 95 on both Saturday and Sunday forecasted.

Got out this morning and cleaned on the 4-4-2. It has been out to 3 Shows, >250-miles of driving since a thorough cleaning. It didn't look bad at a glance, but not up to my Show standards. Cleaned and treated the vinyl roof, and detailer sprayed/buffed both sides. I will try and get the hood, rear deck, and wheels cleaned tomorrow morning and call it a day. The glass and front bumper always get wiped down after I get to a Show anyway. I'm not even sure I'm going anywhere this weekend anyway because there really isn't a Show that sets my heart on fire, and I am hesitant to punish myself with the projected 95° temperature.

A guy is coming soon to do the last of our home repairs, the Garage Wraps that my original contractor forgot to do. Hoping this outfit does a good job. I feel pretty good about all the repairs to date and hope this last task goes as well..

Hope everyone is having a great day and has a relaxing evening. 😀

John - I use the Aerospace 303 on my vinyl roof, dash pad, vinyl door panels, and vinyl seats. You could spray it on, but I spray it on a microfiber and buff it on to both clean and control application. Then buff it off while still damp with a dry microfiber. I love the stuff because it leaves a nice sheen without the greasy look or feel of many other products. Plus, it's supposed to have UV protection.

I've never tried Vinyl X, I'll look it up. I will probably keep using 303 on the interior though, especially the dashpad because of the UV protection. Plus, it already takes enough different products to keep these beasts looking good!

John - Wow, they're really proud of the Vinylex product! I'm seeing anywhere from $45 to $65 per bottle, plus varying amounts for shipping. Now I'm sure I'll stay with the 303 for all my interior.

Mike - Yes, you previously shared the story about your Mom selling the Dewalt radial saw. My Mom pulled the same type of acts after our Dad died. My brothers justified her actions saying it was her stuff so she could do what she wanted with it all. I wasn’t happy. 😞 😡

I used it on my former '71 Supreme's vinyl top. Does a good job.

Jim - Good point. I frequently make half-cut boards for additional strength joining boards together. Dado blades make short work of it. I have a full stack of Dado blades.

This new pneumatic/hydraulic pump, as well as the pump I'm replacing, has some type proprietary hose coupling(s). I was hoping for plug-n-play w/ worst case scenario just change couplers &/or adapt couplers. Not so. The couplers are different between my current pump & the new pump - I was half suspecting this might be the case. Couplers on both pumps might not even be either NPTF/SAE or DIN type fittings. I was hoping (best case scenario) I could change/adapt couplers. This morning I'm going to remove the pump housing coupler insert & see if I can switch the entire set of hose couplers from my old pump to the new pump. Ugh. I sure hope that plays out. I rough measured w/ digital dial calipers & they appear same but I can't measure threads per inch (TPI) &/or thread taper since I have no such tool. Trotting/Stumbling along hoping for the best.

Good morning everyone.

Well I would have lost that bet. The lead is here today. No lengthy speeches, though. Doesn't matter, I don't pay attention to him anyway.

I don't know if I should consider myself brilliant or a dumbass. For years I've been looking at the A Body Chrysler forum and when you click on a thread you've previously looked at, it automatically takes you to the next unread post. I'd be looking around here and think, gee, why can't we do that here. Now, for the same amount of years I've seen on the top of the thread, View First Unread Post, and never put a single thought towards it. Then the other day, I don't know what made me think maybe that will take me to the first unread post. Sure enough it did. What a revelation.

Chris have you ever heard of a ball player named Ron Hunt? He played for the Mets mostly, and retired with the Cardinals. He lives somewhere in the St. Louis area. He was voted MVP once and his prize was an Amphicar.

Norm congratulations on beating the DMV. I always hate going in there. My license expires next year. I hope I can renew online.

Friday. Going out for lunch today, hope my friend will go with me. Three days this weekend. Lots to do. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Norm, you may need to take the hose and ends to a hydraulic hose place. Custom hoses are possible.

Mike - Five years ago I renewed on-line. You can't renew on-line (North Carolina) two times in succession - only every other time; albeit, I had to make an appearance.

Jim - Similar yet not exactly the same - similar though. These are the type of half-lap joints I'm referring to.

John - Success in changing the hydraulic lines.

Unfortunately, the box was damaged when it arrived, I did pay for shipping insurance. Everything was going great until time to lower the lift table. The cylinder to actuate the down pedal is busted up and not vertical. It's wedged in place with no freedom of movement i.e. lift table will not go down & I'm now having to negotiate a resolution w/ the vendor.

Sent images to the pump vendor with detailed images of the carton & the down pedal cylinder. They just responded:

I have a new pump approved for you. Give me a bit to get the label to me and get everything ready to ship for you. I appreciate your patience while I run the email gauntlet.

Mike - I had heard the name, but couldn't recall much about him. After I looked him up, I remembered. He is infamous for holding the MLB record for being the all time player "most hit by pitches". Purposely getting hit by pitches is an illegal play, but many players like Hunt turned it into an art form making it impossible to say for sure whether they did it on purpose or not.

He was never an MLB MVP from what I can see in the Stats, but was a 2 time All Star, and voted into the Montreal Expos Hall of Fame.
