And this from the Beat The Dead Horse department. The Buick in the picture is a Roadmaster. I matched up the interior between the three convertibles for the year. Also, the nameplate on the back says Roadmaster. The Limited has a script on the front of the quarter, and the Special doesn't have one at all. And now we know. And knowing is half the battle.

At the grandson's house and waiting for them to drag their butts out of bed. Actually I'm glad they both get to sleep in for a change since they were in the Summer School program after regular School ended. I'm glad they get a break from the School routine and actually have a real Summer break. Gabe and my daughter Blaire are headed off to Boy Scout Camp for a whole week at Lake of the Ozarks on Sunday, and Keegan is staying with his Dad's parents all next week, so I won't have them next week.
A little cooler today at least, low 90's, but about 70% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. I want to go to a Charity Car Show for a child with cancer on Sunday, but the forecast is not too good and getting worse. Early in the week the rain chance was 20%, now it's up to 50%, and I don't like those odds. I really wanted to get back to this annual Show because I took a 1st in my Class last year. There's a cruise-in at Culver's in Festus on Saturday evening that I can run down to if the Sunday forecast stays bleak, that is if the Saturday evening forecast doesn't change. One thing's a given, it's always hard to plan for a car event in this area until the last second, and even then it's often a crapshoot.

With the long stretch of excessively high temps we've had here over the past couple weeks I've been seeing more and more local reports of major road buckling. This picture is of the road adjacent to the western shore of the Mississippi River, and directly east of the Arch. Pretty crazy!
Norm - You're right, I don't see any way in hell you could avoid the timing of that one. I actually saw that clip a few days ago when it showed up in my Google Feed, probably because Cape Girardeau is only 90-miles away from me.

I hit the white ball around the pasture like an old beat up hag (again), today. Tough getting enthused about practicing at the range more often w/ this sultry heat = lack of motivation. Next tee-time next Monday 9:00am w/ Men's Golf Club - maybe get on the range Sunday.
I have an issue with my 15 yr. old standalone walk-in Danze (now owned by Gerber) two handle shower faucet. This will take time to research: (1) to see if parts available; (2) determine if I can find what part(s) I need for replacement; &/or, (3) determine if I have to purchase a new two-handle or single (one) handle shower faucet which might require a new mixing valve. Whichever way it goes, it means I'll have to remove the current two-handle faucet to visualize the two-handle mixing valve combination which is incorporated into & behind my ceramic tile(s). The joy, oh the joy. I might jump into it this weekend. Look what you've got yourself into MaGoo.
I hear ya about hard to get enthused about doing anything outside, with maybe the exception of being in the water. The boys and I played wiffle ball from about 10 - 11:30am, then we went down and cooled off in my Ex's pool, which used to be my pool. Honestly, I never missed it when I left, it was just another big chore for me to keep up with, but glad my kids had it to enjoy. Sure didn't bother me one iota to see my Ex get to experience what it's like to take care of it! Anyway the boys and I had fun horsing around in the pool!

Boy did I sleep good last night. Even slept in until 8 this morning! Got plenty to do today, hope some of it gets done.
I was the star player yesterday for sure. Signed 72 out of the 165 we did. Really as a mechanic that doesn't say much. It's the other guys who are doing the work and they were humpin' .
Cloudy so far but I don't think it's supposed to rain. Hopefully cooler temps for awhile.
Chris I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking at in that picture. For the pavement to heave that much it must have sounded like an explosion. Any car driving over it at the time would have been launched. I bet the guy in the video **** himself.

What you're looking at is a catastrophic buckling of the pavement due to underground hydraulic pressure. I will let our resident engineers correct me on this if I'm wrong.
Generally there are 2 conditions that are present when this buckling happens:
1st - The ground beneath the road is very saturated with water due to extensive periods of rain. We've definitely had plenty of rain in these parts for this to be true here right now.
2nd - The extensive period of rain and resulting ground saturation is followed by an extensive period of extremely hot temperatures like we've had lately. We definitely have met this condition as it's been very hot (mid-90's and above) here for at least a week and a half. As the ground beneath the road gets hotter and hotter, the water/water vapor gets hotter and hotter and is expanding, and we all know the power of hydraulic pressure. The roadway forms a barrier to the expansion of the water underneath until the pressure gets so great that there is a catastrophic buckling of the pavement, finally releasing the pressure underneath.

In the video, it appears someone thought that was going to happen, and you can see a crack going across the road. Could you drill down into that area and maybe relieve some of the pressure before it buckles? If the video would have run longer do you think others sped up?

I don't know if we're talking apples and oranges? The picture I posted is from downtown St. Louis, on the waterfront right next to the Arch. The video Norm posted is from Cape Girardeau, MO, 120-miles south of St. Louis.
I guess theoretically you might be able to drill holes to relieve the pressure, but then you're purposely destroying the integrity of the road, and opening it up in the future to the rapid formation of potholes. Might be one of those damned if you do, and damned if you don't situations.
Asphalt buckling (not often concrete) happens routinely throughout summer months on NC coastal hwys. Often every 200’ - 300’ across four lanes of divided hwy. You’ll find asphalt milling machines routinely milling & removing buckling in the middle of the night. Often performed twice yearly along same stretches of road.

Mike - No need to be sorry, it's never easy to communicate with just the written word, with no immediate feedback via facial expression, body language, or immediate verbal feedback. I think what you suggested above would work, but might be cost prohibitive just because the condition is so widespread??? What I do know is it is above my pay grade, and I'm not going to worry about it until I crash into one! 😉
Hi guys - Pretty low key day. Dawn was off painting again, so I was on dog care duty. Did my cardio workout, and that was about it.
Been watching the weather all day, and the probability of rain has kept flip flopping all day between lower and higher chances for the Car Show tomorrow. Typically I won't head out if they're calling for much more than a 35% chance. Right at this minute, it's below that, so it's a go for now if things don't change again before morning. My Mopar buddy's family just lost his MIL a couple of days ago from a long bout with dementia, and the funeral was today. He's going to come to the Show if I make it over there, so I'd really like to make it there to see him. The show is in Columbia, IL again, same place as last weekend, and only about a 10-minute drive for him.
We just can't get away from this frickin rain. Had the car all packed and was gonna leave the house around 0700 for the car show. Checked the weather/radar and there was a large line of rain/storms coming directly towards us out of the southwest, predicted to arrive around 0700, which it did. Nothing severe yet, just a steady rain. The bad news is it's not supposed to move completely thru until after 11am. While I was typing this I got a call from a guy in our Old's Club who was organizing "Club Parking" for us today at the show. He is at the Show location right now and he has already heard they are going to keep the Registration open longer this afternoon because of the weather, but he didn't have a specific time yet of how late it will be open. He is going to try and get a specific time, and he is going to text me if he can get a specific time.
My daughter Blaire and Gabe left for a full week of Boy Scout Camp down near Lake of the Ozarks this morning. I'm hoping we have at least somewhat cooler temps this coming week so they can have a more enjoyable time.
I don't think it's rained here. Although the old jokes make civil engineering seem like less than mechanical, they do have a lot of specialized stuff for things like roads that I don't know.

Surprised that none of the rain that's been coming through here all morning has not gotten to you? It has been tracking to the NE so maybe it all went north of you? Car Show was a bust for me today. They were extending the Registration to 1pm, but it was still sprinkling here at noon and the roads were still wet at 12:30 when I would have had to leave to make it there by 1pm. There is more rain coming anyway, supposedly between 1:30 and 3pm according to the radar. There are more shows coming up soon on July 3rd and 4th if the weather's decent.
Ah back to work. The weekend seemed okay, didn't get a lot done. Started mowing at Mom's, saw that my fence was about to fall over, so I worked on it. After that the mowing could go jump.
I guess there was a hellacious thunderstorm/hailstorm here at the airport sometime over the weekend. We didn't get it 19 miles south. Something I never cared for was hail inspection of the crown. Crawling along the top of the airplane looking for dents, bad rivets, corrosion. No thanks. Yes we were attached to the roof or a truck or whatever with a lanyard, I always imagined slipping off the plane and then dangling in mid air.
So I met my friends at the Awful house on Saturday. He wants to sell me two 20' shipping containers. So I went over to their house to see them. Now, they've always said the place was full of stuff. They once owned a collectibles shop and then closed, and all the stuff is in their house, the garage, the shipping containers, and a big metal building they built. It must have been a department store. Their house looked like a hoarder's house. Stuff stacked to the ceiling with little trails from room to room. They try to sell stuff, though not very hard, and all he sees is dollar signs. I think she is just over it and is resigned to living like that forever. The whole thing is heartbreaking. All the time I was there, the deadbeat son is lounging in his bedroom(he's 40). He drives for Uber and uses their car, and they ride around in a beat up Suburban. In fact the orange one that Norm posted one time parked next to Awful house.
So anyway, the shipping containers. If I can get someone to move them I'll put them at the shop and put my own junk in them. I'd love to set them apart and then build a roof between them and park stuff under the roof.

I got the oil changed and I've been running premium in it(I'm supposed to anyway) so it's about as ready as it can get. After that, I'll alternate driving it and the Charger.

Miguel - If you had an OBDII connector you wouldn't have to guess if the SRX has reset PLUS you'd get a shitload of other significant information PLUS you can use it on multiple vehicles. These are all Bluetooth now run it from your mobile phone. I have one for my 2003 Ford F-250 diesel tractor - works great.
