H.S.! Yeah, why didn't I recognize that line "you'll get some leg for sure tonight"; although, I've never known or equated David Lee Roth to be "Diamond Dave'. I recognize others have. The plain truth is this: I've never really admired or liked David Lee Roth. Of course I loved Eddie & his brother, but I far more enjoyed Sammy.
Step right up ladies & gentlemen....step right up. For the paltry sum of 25 quid you can sleep on my lush landscape (yard/lawn), kick back, lay back & await the final countdown of Cosmos 482. Estimated to be ~3:30am ET, Saturday, 10 May 2025.

I remember back in the 60's I stayed with my grandparents in southern Illinois, Johnston City, which isn't too far from you, Chris. Grandpa and I would ride around in his 59 Biscayne. He would point out "squeezes". He was a coal miner and explained that "squeezes" were where the earth had fallen down, causing a depression in the surface. They looked like gentle valleys to me, but he remembered how they used to be flat. They were caused by coal mining- when coal was removed from a mine they would take it out and leave big caverns. At certain spots they would leave a column of coal to support the crust above it. If they took out too much coal, the crust would fall. Of course if this happened while mine was still active- a it could be a major disaster, but if happened after mine was abandoned- just made a "squeeze". Not a good thing if your house was built on top of the squeeze. I wonder if your depression is a squeeze?
Mike, Jim, did you fell the earthquake down there? Had breakfast with friends this morning, a couple couldn't make due to feeling crappy. Took flowers out to the cemetery a bit a go, out to do yard work, and then over to my buddy's to have a look under the hood of his '70 to see how the pulleys are configured on the drivers side, for reference in case I do the a/c add-on.
Hi everyone.
Rain. Wanted to mow but stayed inside. I've been working in the guest bedroom upstairs. There was a settling crack in the ceiling I fixed, and I'm in the process of removing the glue from stickers that were on the wall. Not easy.
I didn't feel the earthquake, I think it was further north of the city. I'm south of the city. Apparently I've been in a few earthquakes, but never ever felt any of them and didn't know it until some time afterward. I used to spend a lot of time in Los Angeles, and never did they have one when I was there.
Instant pizza. Add hot water and stir. I'd try that.
Chris must have made it to his car show today. Hope he has a good time and the Olds does well.
Okay break is over. Gotta clean up my mess upstairs then head over to Mom's. Slept in until almost 9 this morning, then went to Awful house. Despite the rain I've really enjoyed this day. Tiger hangs out wherever I am and sleeps. Hm, some supervisor.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Weed whacking the ditch behind house entire morning. Supposed to rain next several days - supposedly. First I heard about GA earthquake. Occurred along Appalachians in Tennessee - 4.1 magnitude. Saw a video inside a house in North Atlanta of everything shaking. Cool.
Local Radio Played Today.
Kind of a neat ole one for Us Olds Friends Mothers past and present. Went to see Mom and Dad at the Maplewood today with my younger brother and his wife. They have a nice clean, well cared for place to finish their time together.

Norm - I'm still trying to get caught up on here. Hope things don't get too hairy for you as the front moves through. Good luck! 🤞
Exactly for the reasons Chris described, Karst formations are quite prevalent in many locations. Karst formations/topography naturally produce caves/caverns. Sometimes (quite often actually) removal/rearrangement/erosion of topical soil overburden results in catastrophic events e.g. sinkholes being one type.
Most of you probably already know this, or have even seen at least one of them, but we have some incredible caverns not too far from me. There are the more well known Meramec Caverns that everyones' probably seen the signs for along the highway, and the lesser known Onondaga Caverns which are almost as spectacular. I've been in both several times, primarily when my girls were young. It was always a fun day trip in the Summer because it was always so nice and cool inside the caverns.
Chris - While employed w/ NPS I routinely mapped new caves and replaced cave registries for USGS. Caves only found on a topographic map and most w/o any known cave markings. Only knowledge was via the locals. Copperhead Cave (Ozarks) a great one ~1 mile long circular tunnel 6’ diameter. Spelunkers baby!!!

Wow, everything you described sounds like a Chapter from "Deliverance"!
I haven't witnessed anything to that extreme, but had a few unusual experiences with the locals when we had our cabin on the Current River just south of Doniphan.
One morning my Ex FIL and I got up early to go fishing. We went north at first up near the bridge at Doniphan and then started drift fishing the shallows for Small Mouth as we floated south. Came up on another boat that was anchored on the same side of the river we were floating and when we were still at least 50-yards away from them we started our motor, went to the opposite side of the river, went at least 100-yards downstream from where they were anchored, and went back to the side we were originally on and started float fishing again. All's well right, WRONG! A couple minutes after we start fishing again we hear their motor start and they start motoring towards us slowly. When they get within about 50-yards, one of the SOB's stands up with a pistol and starts firing in our direction. My Ex FIL packs wherever he goes, but we got the hell out of there, those Fuchers were nuts!

Happy Mother's Day everyone.
Rain all day here. We did our usual jaunt to Walmart then decided to go out for a nice dinner. My opinion was that no place would be busy because everyone went to brunch. I was wrong. We did a big loop not going to busy restaurants and ended up at Awful house. Hey it was okay, there were a couple servers that Mom recognized and a couple of my friends were there, we had a nice time. We've done worse on holidays.
Norm were all of those 33 kids with the same sister? I think I remember that story.
Chris glad you had a good show. I'll check out the pictures in a minute. We went to Meremac Caverns when I was a kid. Good time. You wouldn't get me down there now. Were those people shooting at you or just at whatever?
Not much going on this week. Doctors appointment tomorrow surprise surprise. Hope everyone has a good week.

The guy was probably not trying to shoot directly at us, but the gun was pointed in our direction. He was just being an A-hole!
There was a NPS Park Ranger where I worked who was raised on the Current, may have been his kin. LOL
No Mike. One sister wasn’t servicing all her brothers I don’t believe. They were all selectively breeding (inbreeding) from Dad’s gene pool, however.when you see/witness stuff like this it’s the result of a fixed loci on one or several chromosomes e.g. stub leg growing from the hip socket, stub arm out the shoulder, eyeball/socket displaced, etc.

I might have prefaced my Bill Houston story by suggesting there was one drug taken/administered in the 1940s/50s to pregnant women which produced terrible physical abnormalities - Thalidomide. But it generally resulted in loss of skeletal features in newborns.
John - There are many harmful effects associated with inbreeding - I’d suggest the majority are not outwardly physical deformities. Most are characterized by illness/disease/pathology of associated organs/systems e.g. cardiovascular, neuromuscular, endocrine, immune, limbic, etc. Limb developmental abnormalities are not common yet they are not rare. There are, in addition, other factors which can contribute to limb development abnormalities. They’re mostly confined to recessive gene expressions; albeit, not dominant genes.
Yes, I am not BSing.
Yes, I am not BSing.
There two main cell lines in animals - mitosis cell lines and meiosis cell lines. The latter are gamete cell lines the former are non-gamete cell lines. An individual inherits these cell lines, referred to as traits. Genes (DNA/RNA) are contained on chromosomes (nucleotides and nucleosides). They comprise an individual’s gene pool = genotype. Since chromosomes are inherited, individuals inherit their genotype. Genotypes are expressed as phenotypes. As an example an individual inherits the ability to produce all cells in the body. The genotype for a heart valve is quite different from the genotype of a kidney cell, etc. The genotype is what is inherited via chromosomes (DNA/RNA) the phenotype is what is expressed as the result of the combination of two sets of chromosomes. Alleles are areas (segments) of a chromosome. One chromosome from the female one chromosome from the male in animals which sexually reproduce. Alleles on both chromosomes align during cell replication. 1/2 from female 1/2 from male (genetic recombination). Sexual reproduction yields variation non-sexual reproduction yields no genetic variation in genotypes. Alignment of these alleles can go awry during reproduction yielding to variations in phenotypes. 99.999% of the time reproduction (when alleles align on chromosomes) there are no events which might mask the ability of an allele (gene) to be expressed incorrectly and you get what you paid for e.g. heart valve, kidney cell, dopamine, thymine, histidine, a muscle, a nerve, a leg, etc. Traits are considered dominant or recessive because one or more alleles are masked (recessive) via the opposing allele. It is this recessive vs. dominant expression of a gene which determines phenotypes. Basically, think of a plant, continue inbreeding a plant for a specific trait and you remove alignment of selective alleles by masking or not masking one allele for the other. After at least one reproductive event you can ‘fix’ an allele to produce seedless grapes, short roots, long roots, etc. Inbreeding can fix a particular allele to express a combination of either beneficial traits or malformed/abnormal traits resulting in incorrect phenotypes e.g. short limbs, long limbs (this discussion), extra limbs, no limbs, bad heart valves, upper pallet, lower pallet, loss of jaw bone, blah blah blah. I’m done…for now.
