John - Thanks for bringing up the slip yolk.
My 2003 F250 8' bed (2 piece propeller shaft) began developing an ever so slight clunk going into gear ~6 months - 7 months ago (~10K miles) - I've mentioned this previously. It hasn't gotten any worse but I've been babying it so it doesn't get any worse (198K miles on truck) until time I disassemble & grease the yolk. I had a much worse clunk develop @ 75K miles. At that time I greased the slip yolk & replaced the rear U-Joint. Clunk gone, all good. My four U-Joints had no grease zerks the rear U-Joint I replaced w/ a U-Joint containing a zerk. The issue w/ my drive shaft is the grease which lubricates the splines inside the center slip yolk assembly where the front & rear propeller shafts meet dries out/breaks down (resulting in the clunk) & requires disassembly to grease (and there's no center slip yoke grease zerk to grease the splines). I evaluated both propeller shafts several months ago & it's now also time to replace the center slip yolk carrier bearing assembly (which holds the slip yolk in place). I think I'll move this maintenance item higher on my priority list since you brought it up.

Good morning guys,

Warmer with a high around 70°, but mostly cloudy, with a low chance of precipitation.

This week is all about Monty, his surgery is Thursday. He has to be there at 7:45am, and should be ready to come home late in the afternoon if everything goes OK. Dawn will be a nervous wreck as the day approaches, and until he's safely home. Truth be told, so will I! I'm really not looking forward to the day of the surgery, but in the long run it should make him healthier, and give him a longer and better quality of life.

Unusually, neither of the Grandsons have any games during the week. Young Keegan accepted an offer to fill in as goalie for another team on Saturday at noon, and then will also be in goal for his team in the game immediately following at 1pm. That boy's gonna be exhausted, but he loves it.

Going to try and get out to my 1st car event Saturday evening to a cruise-in at the Culver's in Festus. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Took the Olds for a drive Saturday afternoon, about a 45 minute cruise. Left turn signal works intermittently, maybe a corroded socket. if a bulb is bad it ain't going to work. I may have to start removing bulbs to have a look at things. It wasn't warm enough in these parts to have the top down (mid 50's), but I did drop the drivers window down and get an arm into cruising position. Felt good. Time to do an oil change on the daily driver, better get my butt in gear as rain is forecast for most of the week and into the weekend.

Dan - Glad you have your Old's home and have been out enjoying it already. Your turn signal issue reminded me of something I need to do, but almost always forget at the start of the season. I need to ask my wife to come out and manipulate the light switches and brake pedal so I can check to make sure they're all functioning correctly. I hope your turn signal is an easy fix!

Good morning everyone.

Good, busy morning so far. Lots of wheels and everyone seems motivated. We're supposed to have an internal audit some time this week so I think everyone is scared that if they show up and no one is working then the auditors will start asking individual people questions. That never goes well.

So I was supposed to go out to Reno this week and volunteer at the museum at which I'm a member. For some unknown to me reason I need permission to do this, and the guy I was told to talk with won't get back to me. He's the Executive Director, which apparently means he doesn't need to return messages. I don't get it. They are always crying for volunteers, yet they snub me. I've been doing this for 31 years, I've been there longer than anyone there. Maybe these new people think I'm gonna rip the place off.

Dan you can put the top down in cooler weather, you have a glass backlight. That's what the heater is for. By the way, every Olds I've ever owned has had an atomic heater in it. Even on the coldest of days I'd have to turn the heater down because it got so hot in the car. My first Corvair was a convertible and it had a Folding Top Manual. It said not to put the top down below 40 degrees. Someone said that was because the plastic back window would crack. Sounds reasonable. The heat was not terrific in that car so I complied.

Chris my Mom was who always helped me bleed brakes. She thought it was a dumb thing to do. Push on the brake, let off. Push on the brake let off. She didn't understand what I was doing, but whenever I needed help, Mom! She did a good job anyway.

Almost break time. I'm rumbly in my tumbly. I need to go find a snack.

Have a great day everyone. The pressure is off, Monday is over.

Mike - Yeah, I don't get it. I don't recall all threads/posts you've made regarding the Reno museum since I've been a CO member (2018), but in recent years I've noted it's become an annoyance just for you to volunteer. Doesn't seem fair a volunteer should have to jump through hoops & navigate hurdles in order to volunteer their services. PITA

Mike - I understand your commitment and personal investment in the Car Museum. It's a real shame you're being treated that way, very rude! The least the *** wipe could do is return your call and explain their current policy/position on volunteer workers. Maybe time to consider investing your time and efforts elsewhere? I sure wouldn't want to invest my time and effort somewhere for someone who doesn't appreciate me.

Chris - You might recall I had a similar event w/ a CGA (Carolina Golf Association) director putting together the 2024 USGA Open @ Pinehurst. He displayed such bravado & contempt in his mannerisms I told him to find another Marshal Hole Captain.

Mike - Use some tact - tell this douche-nozzle to go straight to hell & have him feel happy to be on his way.

Norm - I do remember that now that you've refreshed my memory. No volunteer deserves to be talked down to, or be made to feel like the entity is doing the individual a favor by letting them volunteer. Those kind can take their volunteer positions and shove them where the sun don't shine. In Mike's case it goes even a step further, with the douche bag not even returning his inquiry after 31-yrs of service. Just wrong in my book!!!

Thanks guys. It's not as bad as all that, I don't suppose, I know the man is busy but that doesn't let him off the hook for not being polite. The guy that really chafed my bum was the replacement "Collection Manager." I was emailing the previous guy, not knowing he wasn't there anymore, and the new guy responded to my desire to volunteer with a nah, we're good. He must have ruffled more feathers than just mine because he was gone in a few months. I'll get it straightened out. I will say you guys are a tough crowd!

So now that I have the week to myself, so to say, I plan on yardwork at Mom's and building my wall at the shop. It's gonna be nice weather through the weekend so I hope to finish these things up. I gave back my days off so I can take them another time. It stretches them out further.

Yikes and Wow! Let me explain. The past 2 or 3-weeks my truck battery was having a hard time holding enough charge after sitting more than 3 or 4-days, even with the solar trickle charger on it. I couldn't remember when I last bought a battery for it, couldn't find any receipt for when I last bought a battery for it, and couldn't see a date on it because there is a cover that goes on top of the battery that is held down by the battery terminals.

I got out this morning and pulled the battery terminals and the cover. Battery date of August of 2017, thus the Yikes and Wow! Pulled the battery and ran to Wally World. Same sealed acid 850 CCA Battery, $154 w/tax. I'll be ecstatic if I get another +7-years out of this one, but I'm sure not counting on it.

Yes, I certainly don't envy you there for sure. I'll say this, and know I'm preaching to the choir, the real racket is motorcycle batteries, 1/4 the size and the same damn cost, or more! Rapists!!!

Good morning everyone.

Gonna be another beautiful day so I plan to get something done after work. Work has been going fairly well so far, though we've run out of wheels a couple times. Nice to be caught up I guess.

Well it seems as though I've been given the heave-ho. I got an email last night from the museum's actual curator, where she fawned over my enthusiasm and generosity, but unfortunately only an elite group of people highly trained in car cleaning are allowed to touch the cars now. It was insulting and condescending. She also got the year wrong when I first joined. I haven't decided if I'll respond, I'm sure it wouldn't come out very nice and she'd probably think it was just sour grapes. I'm actually pretty sad about the whole thing.

One of my favorite tricks is to buy a new battery for a car and then the car sits and the battery goes bad. Carb rebuilds are the same. I really need to come up with a schedule of starting and operating all my cars so this sort of thing doesn't happen. Hm, I need a staff.

Going to lunch today. I might end up going to lunch the rest of the week. I hadn't planned on being here so I don't have anything to bring. Eh, I'll figure it out.

Okay wheels. Have a great day everyone.

Mike - I'm sorry about the response from the Car Museum. You probably know what I'm going to say, F+@× THEM! Their loss I say!

You're not the only one that pulls dumb *** stunts with batteries, I learned my lesson just a couple days ago. I bought a 2-pack of 20v batteries for my electric weed-eater a few years back. Started using one of them and never rotated the 2nd one into the mix. Now that the one I've been using is not lasting as long, I went to charge up the one that's never been used and it won't take a charge at all! Dohhhhh!!!

Thanks Norm. I'm getting lumber this afternoon and will start cutting. Measure twice and cut once. Or, like a lead I used to have would say, measure twice then cut the hell out of it.

Thanks Chris. Many years ago I would buy DieHard batteries from Sears. After a couple years they'd go bad but if I drove the car every day they'd still start the car. Let it sit more than a day, click.

And now from the dumbass kid archive. Back when I only had one car, my green Oldsmobile, one day the car wouldn't start. I was sure my fancy lifetime replacement high dollar starter was bad. The store I bought it from was out of business and I was poor, so off to the junkyard I went and swapped my expensive starter for a used one. Put it on and the car still didn't start. Never considered a bad battery because it wasn't that old. Turns out it was a bad battery. I think I got a used one of them as well.

Good morning guys,

Monsoons coming in tomorrow for 4-days straight, potentially some severe. With Monty's surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning, the last thing I want to see is him in distress before he even gets to the Vet's office early tomorrow. I'm also fearful of how he'll do after surgery with all the stormy weather in the forecast. I know his Throat and Nasal passages are going to be extremely sore, and panting heavily isn't going to help. I asked Dawn about contacting the Vet and asking their opinion if maybe we should postpone the surgery if possible because of the bad weather and the effect on him, but she doesn't want to ask them to do that. I tried. Next few days are gonna be the $hits until he's out of the woods.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Chris - If you mention the weather to the vet tomorrow you'll likely get a script for a handful of sedatives.

Yes, that's almost a given. If you remind them of the weather, they might re-think type of sedative/dosage & amount.

Good thinking, I'll suggest to Dawn. Dawn will be taking him in the morning and I'll be staying home with Maggie, and she will also be the one to pick him up when it's time for him to come home. At least I think that's the plan?

Mike, the heater works very well in the '72, with the window down it was chilly, but I only needed the heater on low to compensate. The Gilmore might appreciate your volunteer help. If ya do, I'll meet ya down there (up for you) and buy you lunch. Maybe snare Chris along the way, as he has forgotten how to get back this way . I had the starter rebuilt in my last '71 Supreme. Installed it, and no cranky, pissed off because the starter didn't work, I grabbed the battery cable to remove it before dropping the starter. The clamp came off in my hand, the cable was shot. Ordered a new one from Fusick, and all was good.

Good morning everyone.

Good start to the morning. The lead mentioned we're going to be getting more wheels and overtime might start up. I like the sound of that.

Chris I hope Monty does well today. I also hope Dawn does well today. Maybe once the surgery is done and Monty can breathe better, he won't be so upset during storms. Maybe some of it is reacting to his distress of not breathing well.

Dan the Gilmore would be a great place to volunteer. I want to go up there some time. It would be a good place for The Good Morning Thread people to meet up.

Got a bunch of lumber yesterday but talked a lot so didn't get any work done. That's okay, my neighbor came over and gave me some good suggestions so I'm confident I'll be able to restabilize the hangar roof and not have it crash down on the cars and such.

This afternoon I think I'll do a little yardwork at Mom's. Like a dumbass I let a bunch of crap grow up in the back yard and I'm slowly reclaiming the space. Do you see a pattern here? Me being a dumbass?

Okay gonna go walk down to the roll up door. Been sitting too long. Hope everyone has a great day.

Mike - I really appreciate your well wishes for Monty and Dawn today! It will be a long day until he's safely home, and then there will be the multiple days of iffy weather to contend with.

Dan was right the other day when he said it has been too long since I've been up to Michigan. It's not hard for me to remember when that was, October of 2019, because that's when I went up to inspect and test drive my 4-4-2. My sister and I were never extremely close, I think mainly because of our age difference, but I do miss her and we're not getting any younger.

I hope you have good luck shoring up the hanger so you don't have to worry about it collapsing on your vehicles. I don't envy you in that task. Don't risk life and limb trying to get it done though, it's not worth it. Wish you the best.
