Yes, it sure is. Look at that, we're gonna drop below 100 degrees!

WooHoo! Double digits, finally.

I began grad school @ Univ Of OK (Norman, OK) Jan. 1984. I had a full-time Univ Staff position, as well. When G.E.I.C.O. really was a Government Employees Insurance Company they only wrote coverage for same. A predominate pool of safe drivers. I’ve been w/ GEICO since then - 38 years. I get excellent support & coverage. They do treat longevity well.

Kenneth - Know you were being sarcastic, those temps are still crazy high, just like 41° is crazy low for this time of year here. My wife was complaining it was chilly in the house this morning (67°), I said yep, that's why I've got these sweatpants and sweatshirt on. I wasn't about to go over and turn on the gas fireplace in September!

Norm - I know insurance rates are regulated by State, but don't be surprised if you see a considerable increase in your next 6-month premium for auto insurance. From a year ago, the upcoming GEICO auto renewal was going to be 50% higher, 38% higher than the last 6-month period. I've had no accidents, no claims, no driving infractions. To have full coverage on my Hyundai SUV, and only liability on my old Truck, GEICO wanted to charge me $698 for 6-months. On the other hand, AARP is only charging me $320 for full coverage on both vehicles. Now that's just crazy!

Chris - You live in St. Louis, I live in the boonies. Dollars to donuts St. Louis has far many more automotive insurance claims than I do here in the sticks w/ a population of 3,800.

Left work at noon so I could take my Mom to the doctor. It was the orthopedist and she has the exact same trouble I have. The doctor has all but convinced her to have surgery. Great, if she can do it at 81 I won't have any excuses to not do it. Well, she will be great and I will be great and no more of this damn pain and limping.

Beautiful out. Cool. Jamesbo I think you are right about getting the gas turned on. Usually I wait until the very end and am cold in the house for a few days. This time around I know the gas will be turned on early, Mom won't put up with being cold. Gas is always on at my house, though I think the AC guy has to come back and hook up the gas line, in July he wasn't real worried about it.

I have had State Farm for decades, and I know I should really change, but I just don't. I do have a couple cars with Hagerty. That's another company I need to change. Baby steps.

Almost time for MASH. Have a good evening everyone.

That's true, that may be playing into it. I do however live 35-miles from StL, and Pevely has a population of 5,900. Maybe Missourians in general are just $hitty drivers, now that I'd believe!

I have full coverage on everything - uninsured motorist, full comprehensive, liability & towing on each vehicle (2010 Indian Chief Vintage, 1971 CS Convertible, 2003 F-250) = $1100/yr. I could/can reduce my coverage on any vehicle at any time and save some candy, but I don't trust myself.

It is crazy - that's a substantial savings if policies have IDENTICAL coverage (fine print &/or exclusions).

The AARP is actually more coverage than the GEICO because it includes collision and comprehensive on my old truck, whereas the GEICO quote only includes liability.

Never met a jam or jelly I didn't like! I'd prefer red raspberry, blackberry, or cherry, but plain ol' strawberry will do in a pinch.

Jim - About one day prior to Ian making landfall in Florida, as I was watching NOAA-NHC satellite GOES-EAST image loops, I noticed the extreme far-reaching band(s) of Ian. Viewing the sky from my home I could see those extreme (1,000 mile) Northern band(s) in the sky - they formed a solid distinct band (probably 30K - 40K feet above ground) - standard features of cyclones at those distances.

The outer lower altitude moisture laden inner bands are just now beginning to impose upon us along the NC coast. Winds increasing & spitting very light rain - like a water hose barely opened but spraying water. Evidently this will increase over the next 24 hours as Ian moves North. We're expecting mild storm surge (1' - 3') w/ ~6" - 8" rain over the next several days - no biggie, there will be mild flash flooding but nothing devastating I don't believe. The thing is it will last several long days as the tributaries, creeks & watersheds all fill with water and the storm surge holds the water back.

I managed to move some scaffolding, boards, equipment around, been caulking painting etc. the past week, fascia all done, etc. - just going to wait out the rainfall the next several days then hit it all over again.

Incisor tooth acting up. Dentist looked at it two months ago, not getting any better, IMO. I have an 11:00 am appointment to see what's up w/ it.

Hot water tank took a dump a couple of days ago, I played with getting it started (light again) and never could get the thermocouple to relight.. Damn new stuff anyway, it's only 35 years old. Took $2600 buck's to get hot water going again! I can remember when it only took 200 dollars and an afternoon to get things back to normal. Inflation?.. Tedd

Tedd - What a rip off. Cost you $6.19/month to heat your water. That’s $0.21/ day. Outrageous.

Tedd - Sorry to hear about that, but I can definitely empathize with you though! I've been hemorrhaging $'s myself lately between Vet bills, truck repair, roof repair, and medical bills! With this current crazy inflation and being on a fixed income the unexpected bills hurt!

Ian must be related to Charley. Eighteen years ago (2004) hurricane Charley took a near absolute identical path from the Southern Caribbean, across West Cuba, identical landfall in Florida, crossed Florida to emerge as a hurricane once again and migrated right up the coast. I'm hoping Ian will continue a North & West movement to dissipate over land.

Here's hurricane Charley's path (2004). Looks all too familiar.

GM announced today that they are moving the Heritage Center from Sterling Heights up to Grand Blanc, to the former location of GM CCA (Customer Care and Aftersales, previously known as Service Parts Operations). Really good news for my local area, and keeps GM in that building that was constructed for SPO in the mid-90's.

I've always wanted to visit the Heritage Center, as my wife had been in there several times when she worked at CCA with Shows & Events.

I would love to go to the Heritage Center. Lots of cool stuff to see, and all the experimental Corvairs are there.

We are cooking along and will meet our goal by the end of the shift. That did not stop the lead from stopping us from working so he could tell us we need to keep working so we meet our goal by the end of the shift. Huh? I think he's flipped his gourd. He told us all this morning that if we don't have anything to do before noon on Saturday and Sunday, we better be here for overtime. That's a good way to get zero participation.

I just was past the roll up door, it's a nice day out. A bit breezy. Gusts coming later, I hope they aren't too strong. I have too many car covers to keep track of.

Norm, Even this far inland we're getting occasionally bands of wind. Blue bird day the gust of wind repeat

Well, I had a new one today, Family shows up, Hearse shows up, minister shows up.

Unfortunately the lead dude forgot to do what I told him to do. Return the signed paper work, give me a days notice and pay

So the hearse take Mr. Baker back to the cooler and I tell the dude for the 5th time. We are not going to open the grave until I have the paperwork. He says, "I'll call you this afternoon and get everything straight

Not holding my breath

Went to the Heritage Center a few years ago, cool place. Mike not all vehicles are on display, they rotate them from time to time. I'll send an email to my buddies son, he lives in Grand Blanc. he is a former curator of the Silversides submarine museum here in town. He should apply there, graduated from Wayne St. University with a degree in History.

I guess when I think of "fixed income" I see no more opportunities for promotions with increased pay, no more bonuses for high performance, and it being difficult to re-enter the workforce at the level you left because of your age. Not to say that I would never work again if I needed to, but I sure as he'll don't want to.

I'm not sure what the size of the current Heritage Center is vs the not-so-old CCA building, but I'd bet the CCA building has more square footage. What will be interesting is if they can put in a freight elevator large enough to move vehicles between floors, because CCA is 3 wings that each have 3 floors. There is a huge potential if they open it up to a multi-level museum-like facility.

Yes, what you said too John, but in my case I get no Social Security, but have a Federal Pension that replaces it. Another part of "Fixed Income", that is actually negative income, are COLA's, which are a misnomer because they never actually keep up with the true cost of inflation. I ain't bitchin, I've got it much better than most. My point at the start of this was, and still is, when you're already getting by on substantially less than when you were working, the unexpected expenses sting a bit more!
