65 442 wheel size help

so I been pulling my hair out all day with wheel sizes and offsets on foe my 65 442. Currently I have old Anson 14x8s with a 3 1/4" backspace all the way around. I'm putting the Hurst dazzler wheels on it 15x8 with a 4" bs for rear and a 15x7 with a 3 3/4" bs for front . I'd like to run a 255/60/15 in rear and slightly smaller in front . Question is should I do the 8" wide all the way around or the 7" wide in front ? What will fit the best ? Thanks !

You want zero OFFSET. Backspace is a poor metric to use because it depends on wheel width, material, and shape of the lip. Offset is independent of wheel width. For a 7" wide wheel, zero offset will yield a backspace between 3.75" and 4", depending on the thickness of the wheel lip. For an 8" wide wheel, backspace for zero offset will be between 4.25" and 4.5".

ok, I actually changed it to 15 x 8x all around with a 4" bs . I guess I can always run a 1/4" spacer if necessary

Better recheck your math. You would need a NEGATIVE spacer. Smaller B.S. means that the rim is pushed outboard already. A spacer would just make that worse.

Didn't you say 4 1/4 or 4 1/2 bs ? In any case right now my wheels are 14x8 with a 3 1/4" bs and they are centered.

If you have 4" B.S. and add a 1/4" spacer, you now have 3 3/4" B.S. and the wheel is closer to the outer fender lip.

I'd stick with 15X7 with as close to "0" offset on the front

a 15x8 requires too many stars to align with tire size, ride height & 50 year old cars to avoid rubbing wheel lips and frame rails

15 x 8" will not work on the front of a 65 442. You will need a tall narrow tire on a 15x7" rim and 15x6" up front is better on a 65.

You have 15" rims w/ 14" tires?

Are you sure your current rims are 8" wide? How are you measuring that?

Clearly you have a typo here somewhere. I have tried many combinations on my 65 442 & 8" up front & wide tires up front are not user friendly.

So far the rear 15x8 4" bs with a 255/60/15 drag radial seems like it's going to fit. Have about 2"s on the inside and very very close to the wheel well inner lip . But the car does seem like its sitting to low in the back and is way to soft in the rear .

rear wheel & tire on 65 442

275 60 15s ON 15X8.5" RIMS WITH 5" BS.

The differential is a 1966 Chevelle 12 bolt which is 1" wider than the original 8.2" 10 bolt that I took out of the car.

I have had many different wheel & tire combos. On the front the best fit is a 15 x 6" rim with a tall narrow tire like a 215 75 15.

rear springs were new replacement from strange and the shocks are KYB all around.

Best looking rim on a 65 442 is by far Torque Thrust Ds and redlines would be a home run.

that looks great ! I was originally going with the torque thrust d then decided on the hurst dazzler 15x8 4" bs rear. I was also going to try and do the same wheel in the front but now might do the 15x7 with 3 3/4" bs

So for the front I'm stuck with a 15x7 3 3/4" bs. Do you think I can fit a 235/60/15 on the front ? 225/70/15 ?

Well wheels are on and I'm really happy to report that they fit perfectly. 15x7, 3 3/4" bs with a 235/60/15 front. No rubbing and just clears lock to lock. Rear is 15x8 4" bs with 255/60/15 tires. Fits perfectly a couple inches on the inside and 1/4" between the tire and inner fender lip on the passenger side and a 1/2" in the driver. Going to put air bags in tomorrow to get another inch in height then will post some pictures.

Are you running stock height front springs and an A-body stock front suspension? I would like to see the stance when you send the pictures, thank you!!

yes, stock 65 442 suspension all the way around but everything is brand new so nothing is lower or sagging .

Not the best pictures but you can get an idea of the stance. This is with the air bags at 30 lbs in the rear . Gives it a little rake to the front .
