1941 Olds 98 Rear End Parts
1941 Olds 98 Rear End Parts
Where do y'all get parts for the rear axle on these pre-war cars? The Kanter and Fusick websites don't appear to have driveline parts listed at all for these cars, and RockAuto unsurprisingly lists nothing but U-joints.
The 1941 "Oldsmobile Sixes and Eights" shop manual has GM part numbers listed for pinion bearings and wheel bearings, and I've been able to find NOS part listings for some, but there's no part number given for the differential side bearings (the table just says "Taper Roller"). There doesn't seem to be any mention of the pinion or wheel seals at all, but maybe I just haven't seen it yet. I assume these are rope seals that need to be repacked when necessary, but knowing the size of rope seal to use ahead of time would be handy.
More generally, I'm curious about parts interchangeability. What other vehicles was this axle was used in? What gear ratios were available? What are the spline counts on the pinion and axle shafts?
Thanks in advance!

Packing - seal, Diff. Pinion Shaft: Group 5.469 (oil seal), part 501839
Seal, Axle Shaft Inner Oil: Group 5.822, part 412111
I have no idea where to get the parts.
I don't know the spline counts. If you have the axle, it would be best to count them yourself.
Ratios for 1941: 40-11, 43-10, 41-9, 41-12, 39-10, and 41-10. You can do the division to get the ratios.
As far as interchangeability goes, I don't know. The only other parts book I have is for Chevrolet, and none of the above part numbers are shown in those Groups for Chevrolet, so I assume that Oldsmobile & Chevrolet were not the same.
Check the Oldsmobile page on https://www.vintagepartsource.com , there is a large list of vintage Oldsmobile parts suppliers with some info on what they sell.

These cover the '41's pretty well mechanically , at least .
You are correct that the Chevy rears are not he same as Olds . But , Pontiac is . 1937 thru 1947 Olds and Pontiac rear end center sections will swap . Later centers , thru 1954 will also swap in but modifications to the housing will be required .
A good source of bearings and rear end parts is Northwest Transmission Parts ;
