I'm trying to find period correct transmission cooling lines for my 1960 Olds (394 V8). What came with my car was apparently jury rigged by the previous owner.

I've tried a few of the major tube suppliers in Hemmings (InLine and Classic Tubing) but no luck ... seems like they have everything but 1960. Can anyone recommend a supplier that produces the lines I need.

Did you try Rock Auto, Fusicks and Kanter? If they don't have them and nobody else knows of another company to try you might have to get stainless tubing from the parts store and bend it yourself.

 

Tried Fusicks and they didn't have it. Will try the other two now.

They are not that hard to bend yourself. Do you have the old ones to use as a template. If not pick up some gas welding rod crawl under the car and make your own template. Thats what I did on my 57 Olds

 

The existing ones are still on the car and working. However, I need to replace the rubber hoses and my mechanic is saying it would be better not to jury rig the new hoses with the existing lines. I don't have the original template (neither do any of the suppliers that I've called) and can't seem to find any illustration in my service manual. We can use the existing one as a template and make new ones. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks Jeff ... they have 59 but not 60. But I'm told 59 may be interchangeable with mine. So I'm chasing that one down.

Also, I had a 75 Toro very similar to yours. What a great boulevard cruiser that car was. I miss it.

my $$$ is on yes they are interchangeable but I would think that something could be fabricated - if you know the fitting size, I am a Materials Manager for a boat builder, used to buy for yachts and ships and always had to buy that kind of stuff. Aero-quip / Hydraulic Supply comes to mind http://www.hydraulic-supply.com/as well as Parker Palm Beach hose is a distr very helpful ask for Andy for fittings. Would be happy to help if you need

Any more pics of yours? My grandfather had a 60 Super 88 convertible that we used to cruise around Miami Beach when I was like 4/5/6 LOVED that car

Below are more shots of my car from my Hemmings page. My father had one like it when I was a kid. When he got rid of it (to a junk yard no less) it was like someone had died in the family.

I learned to drive on his '71 98 and then had several Torno's -- 68, 69 and 75 (which was quite the looker). But the 60 always stayed with me and I got this one after my father died. Other owners I've talked to have similar tales.

what a cool car - same as my grandfather's but his was 2 tone brown interior - question, does the courtesy light behind the driver's seat have a switch on it???

 

Yes it does ... a little black button ... my little girl can't keep her hands off it and we've had more than a few discussions about not turining it on when Daddy isn't looking!

By the way, the car comes from Florida. Picked it up two years ago in Tampa from PJ's Auto World. Been tinkering with it ever since ... I'm currently painting under the hood, and much to my amazement, it's going quite well!

yeah I got in trouble with that light too, funny I still check for that switch, I have never seen another one!

I am in Connecticut about an hour outside NYC. Flew down to Tampa to look at the car two years ago and then had it trucked up here. Have you tried OldsObsolete for the light switch? They're a little pricey but he often has parts you don't see elsewhere.
