That will work with your current open? carrier or a 2 series posi carrier. There are thin and thick gears available in most popular ratios, that is why they say 2 or 3 series. This is because most factory carriers are 2 series. For your rpm calculations add 250 to 300 rpm for converter slippage. So with a stock 25" tall tire, you will run 2900 at 60 mph. Seeing how everything is far away where we live, a 3.08 gear might be better.

I dont know, I sent them a message.
Now all things considered, doing the engine, changing the gear ratio, 2200 stall, may as well yank the trans and rebuild it as well.
Something else to look forward to. lol

Standing here looking at the block, what's your thoughts on an electric fuel pump?

You need a block off plate and a quality, quiet fuel pump properly plumbed. It makes Procomp or Edelbrock aluminum heads an easy swap, mechanical pumps won't work with them on a 350.

Well both sets of heads checked out good.
Have a set of 7a's and 8's to work with.
Hope to start porting and polishing them this weekend. Noticed a big difference in the pocket from the 7a's and 8's. The 8's are shaped differently around the guide and is no slope on the wall that comes into the chamber. It's a straight wall,I take it this is why the 8's dont flow as well.

If you want a better mechanical fuel pump try the RobMC fuel pump . it may interfere with you A/C if you plan on running it if you are not gonna run A/C it's worth the money.

That is good info, should be about right as is, as long as it is original.

So if the factory stall is already 2400, wont make much sense to buy a 2500?

I heard rumor there was a better converter in those cars but didn't want to say. It might not hit the 2400 stall rating but it is no doubt a huge improvement over the regular 1600 flash stall everything else got. I know the 2400 stall behind the 80's Hurst/Olds and 442 stalled around 2000 rpm. But that was behind 170-180 hp and 250 ft/lbs of torque.

Which why it should stall higher than the stock 350 and you should be good to run as is.

Don’t be too hell bent on removing a bunch of material out of the ports. You’re not going to be spinning it that high so you don’t need to increase the volume by much, just the flow.

Playing with the exhaust boss, tear dropping.
Dropping it so the the point meets the center of the exhaust port

Those the 7A heads? The one pic almost looks like the #8 bowl area. Looking good, can hardly wait to see it all come together.

The Felpro valley trays have always fit well. I have used other brands with luck, others have not. It is crazy Summit won't ship any of the tray gaskets. The the center crossover is why there is two different gaskets. The #8 heads have bigger crossover's vs the earlier heads.

Yes they 8's. Wanted 7a's but scared to bring compression 10 or over. I am surprised, my first porting job and turning out nicely. Trying to find the proper tools here isn't easy. Lol Curious to see how they will flow. Even cleaning the oil ways so the oil has less resistance to get back to the pan.
Hope this head out Tuesday..

Okay, well I will be filling the heat riser so shouldn't bother.

Yes, basically the early gasket 96009 won't cover the #8's crossover passage properly but filling the heads should make it a mute point. Just get the more common Turkey tray for the 73 to 85 307, 350 and 403, MS96027.

Okay thanks for the input.
Well heads cleaned up not to bad. I am impressed with my work with them, first time porting heads.
Took time tho, around 50 hours into them.
Now just weld center exhaust port and fill heat risers. The only issue with that, I have no scrap pistons. Threw a bunch out last year from the 394 I torn down 😟😟

Scrap pistons are horrible buy an ingot . The aluminum in pistons is not very clean. You will end up with less than ideal material from my experience .

Okay an ingot is a brick of metal, so a brick of aluminum?

You can buy small hobby ingots online. Many home jewelry makers use the stuff.

Thanks 76olds. I am debating to buy some valve grind material and polish them more. Was hard to do a nice job along the side if the chambers.
If I can find a small polishing disk for the diegrinder, will attempt once more before I ship to Winnipeg
