Of course not, I am with Jimmy on only wanting NOS or original parts on my restorations. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a level ‘some’ restorers want to go to.
I current have accumulated nearly 900 nos parts for a 71 W30 convertible I am restoring. Some items include all nos weather strips, gas tank, trunk lid, aluminum intake, rally pack, dash, all chrome trim including bumpers. To go to this extent,I don’t want aftermarket parts if I can avoid it, hense nos valve train, timing cover etc.
so like Jimmy I would not use an aftermarket starter shim.

Thumbs up

The level of detail and commitment to go 100% GM is huge.

Kudos to W31 for his efforts and sharing.

We must remember this is one vision of restoring a W car.
Also we all have different ways of seeing the end result
But we are all going in the same direction.
Which is saving these cars so others can enjoy them

Have seen green valve stem caps and ads for Nitrogen. However, Air is already 78% N (nitrogen), 21% O2 (oxygen) and 1% Ar (argon) and other trace gases.

In order to get air from your cars manufacture era, you would need the correct location, smog level, hummidity and a date coded correct compressor. Just saying for those considering.😳

This is it in a nutshell. Alain just nailed it here. People fixing their cars are limited by their abilities, knowledge and $. I would think a person with rusty holes in their car could still appreciate a pristine restoration. I always assume that others are interested in this stuff, so I try to share what I know. But...yeah...it's definitely not for everybody to sweat the tiny details, and bring a car back to it's original condition.

Has anyone considered using helium to inflate tires? I heard it reduces weight and makes for a softer ride.

And quicker flats. Helium molecules are tiny. Thus less dense than air. Need more of it per PSI. Helium will leak out of schrader valves quicker than air does. And kind of expensive option- right now anyway. There's a helium shortage of sorts. Can't be reproduced and is in somewhat short supply at the moment.

Typical 15 cubic foot tanks to fill party balloons are usually ranging from $40-60. Which MIGHT fill a couple of tires at best, if that. Air is much much cheaper.

I’m in for splitting a Van Nuys tank of air.

space savers should be filled with helium. They would be lighter to put on.
