An Introduction and a question (or two)
An Introduction and a question (or two)
Wonderful to find another bunch of Olds fans.
I've had a 1983 Olds Cutlass Supreme for about 25 years now, but it's been parked for about the last 15. I just never could bear to part with it. Now it's time to start putting her back together. I've poked around in the forums and have noticed that there doesn't seem to be as much written about the 81 to about 86 model years. Is that because they are getting rare or because they aren't desired? Not that it matter to me. I like my car and don't plan on selling it either way.
Also, I haven't been able to find a good source of aftermarket parts. Classic industries and year one and the like don't seem to go up to the mid-80s years yet. And I've seen enough Cutlasses over the years to know that there's got to be a market for those grille inserts.

Welcome to the site. Those G bodys were very popular sellers in the day. Gm built Gazillions of the them from 78-88. I think they were the most stolen car model in the later years.
I'll have to admit I don't see that much talk bout these here. We still have many members here with these models though. Stick around, maybe some of them can help you with getting those specific parts. Don't forget our parts wanted/for sale area.
Oh, yea put a 455 in it!

They're not as desirable as the earlier years. They're certainly not rare, relatively speaking, because, as don71 notes, those years saw very high production of Cutlasses.
Engine and drivetrain, brake, etc. parts are available all day long at your local auto parts store. But body and trim parts for the most part are not reproduced for these cars the way they are for the earlier years, again for reasons of desirability/popularity. There aren't enough of these cars being restored to justify the expense a manufacturer would incur in developing the tooling to produce parts. If you need fenders and things like that, they'll have to come from donor cars.
Major old Olds suppliers like Fusick don't go later than the mid-'70s in terms of model years supported.

Welcome to the site. We have a quite a few members here and are getting more members regularly with G bodies. Parts availability for mechanical parts should be no problem, however trim and other items can mostly only be obtained from classified ads, Ebay, craigslist, etc..., as there are not many reproduced.
Post some pictures of your car when you get a chance.
