Post version ,I would really like to see some variations of your two tone paint jobs on this body,Mostly around the rear window and windshield areas.Also near the backup light fillers where the molding ends.Full photos are appreciated as well.I am headedd to the hardware store for the nuts for the new hood bumpers,once adjusted i will be wetsanding for the third and final time,actually twice 400 then 600 grit.Thanks Glen

 

The "standard" 88's only had straight 2 tones (roof one color, body another) - the Super 88's could have had a "Special" 2 tone, which was the one where the upper nose and roof were one color. This is because the Supers had a stainless moulding around the side windows that was used as the break line for the paint - there is one that I've seen that was a plain 88 with a special paint, but not factory - don't know how they did the break line at the belt line.

I had never noticed the paint divider chrome on these super 88 sedans like Olds Dad mentioned

 

Hmmm ,mine was a bit different and will be light green roof and front medium green lower rear and around the side window openings.I only have a polaroid of the original from when i bought it mabey i can take a picture of it and post it.

Here are a few pictures from the 1956 Oldsmobile Sales Brochure showing all 13 models including the two door sedans made for only the 88 and Super 88 models. If the car was two tone the Super 88 was shown to have the roof, the bottom lower and back portions one color and the hood and top of the fenders through the trim pattern of the doors the other color. The 88 model is shown to have the roof one color and the rest of the car including all portions of the door the other color.

 

Our is not a 56 but a 55 2 door sedan super 88.
