71 Cutlass blower motor
71 Cutlass blower motor
Just bought this Cutlass Supreme... and the blower motor is noisy. I cannot find where it is located so I can remove it. Do you access it from under the dash or under the hood. Car has air conditioning if that changes anything. It does not look like this is going to be easy.
You're right - it's not easy. About the only way you're going to change out that blower motor is to remove the passenger side wheel liner. The blower motor is in behind the liner and it's just out of reach for your hands and tools. Sorry this isn't the answer you were looking for, but it's the only way I know. AC means you're going to have to unbolt a few brackets and reposition a few hoses to do all this.
Do you have a copy of the 71 Chassis Service Manual or 71 Cutlass Assembly Manual? They are valuable resources to help you along. The Assembly Manual has better exploded view diagrams, but the CSM has the description of how to do it.

It's a easy fix, just remove the passenger side fender inner wheel well and every thing is easy to get to from there, I also hade mine go bad and I too though it was goin to be a nightmare, remove the passenger front tire for better access
It's a 40 min. job to remove the fender well after you remove the wheel.
Takes a little pulling and pushing to coax it out.
But not bad at all. If your fender wells are old and faded like mine, take them both out and paint them as well.

Here is the view from up under the fender to give an idea of what you are after:

That assumes that the bolts from the inner fender to the outer fender at the wheel opening aren't rusted to the clip nuts. I've had these clip nuts spin, which requires the fender to come off to allow you to put an open end wrench on the now-broken clip nut. The alternative is to cut the head off the offending bolt and replace the clip nut and bolt after you get the inner fender out.
I cut some bolts off when I replaced the last blower motor. I think I used a dremel tool to make it easier to get into those tight spots, it took a little longer but I didn't want to remove the whole fender. BTW, welcome to CO HLS!
