Hey bill have you looked in the car for any paper work I found mail under my rear seat from the previous owner. If they only used it as a parts car there could be info that you could use check behind glove box too

+1.

According to CollectorCarMarket, it's worth $1,000 in #4 condition, which is to say running, driving, with everything working, but not fancy and restored.

Yours is nowhere near a #4 - it's basically a parts car, but for cars nobody really wants - so I'd put $1,000 as the top possible value.
1.5% of $1,000 is, as stated, $15, so I don't see how this can be much of a problem. Even if they use the MSRP as a guide, that's $4,000, so 1.5% of that would be $60.

And you don't have to get into details about where or how you got the car.
You found it abandoned.
A guy let you haul it off his property.
He didn't know anything about it.
That's all there is to say. Keep it short and simple.
If they knew otherwise, they'd be able to tell you who owned the car last.

It's worth about $300 in scrap the way it sits. I'd go with Eric's story.

True but I don't want them getting more money off me than they are supposed to lol I guess for now I'll continue my engine and test it on a stand while I read up on how I exactly need to do this

$100 ain't bad.

It's not a matter of them getting more money off you than they're supposed to - they're the government, they'll always get more money off you than they're supposed to.

The point is (and it's possible you're not clear on this), it's a BOND.
That means you're putting money up in case of a problem, but if there's no problem, (within, probably 6 months or a year), you get the money back, and probably with interest, just like you put it in the bank.

Get all the information on this and then come back and talk to us. It sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I hope it works out for you. If the car cannot be titled reasonably, regardless of the money you received, IMHO you still have the option of getting a different car. I don't think any of us want you to spend stupid money on the car if there is a more cost efficient alternative.

If it has to come down to it I'll let QS442 take it for 100 to keep his car well maintained with what he can use

I'm not an expert on parts interchange, but I believe that all 350 balancers are the same (except the W-31), and i think they may also be the same as the 455s, though I'm less certain of that.

Doesn't matter much, because lots of people pull 350s to swap in 455s, and have 350 parts lying around, so 350 balancers are kind of everywhere.

'75 Parts Manual says all V8 engines 1968-'75, except 350 OAI (W-31) use the same balancer: 417142.

Bill, I took a look at that listing. They look like a good deal, and like reasonable wires.
Certainly at least as good as stock, which would be more expensive than that.

Here's the question you've got to ask yourself:

"Am I going to be using points, or HEI?"

Those are points distributor wires, and will not fit an HEI cap.
