1965 442 build

With winter coming I decided to do a few modifications to my Junk heap 442. My good buddy just did a motor/tranny in his 65 convertible and I have to try and keep up with him! I was planning on a 455 build, 200R4 conversion, suspension upgrades, lots of body and custom interior work etc

455

HI there, you may want to check this info. Attached is Phillips 65 pro-touring build featured on pro-touring.com. I have been in communication with him on his extrodinary build. That said, he has decided to go to the "dark side" and pull the OLDS 455 and go with a new LS3 and he is going to sell the 455. The A/C compressor brackets he made I bought!! Could save you $$$ over building one. His e-mail is pmckee@live.com

This build is rolling right along, I got to give the credit to my Buddies Darrin, and Buz. Darrin being the Olds guru, helping me, and he is a member, and buz being the MAD fabricator/welder. In the last three weeks we have made some mad progress

I was going to post some more pictures tonight and ask some questions, I seen I have a poor rating and not many responses? is there something wrong with my build or thread?

Lots of people look and don't post. Only two people have rated the thread. Honestly I have never ever rated a thread I forget that option even is there. Just keep doing what you are doing. PS out of curiosity I went back and checked. My 11 page 1.5 year build thread only had 3 votes. They all were 5 stars though

Mark I mentioned the same thing in my build a while back. The thought was there maybe thousands looking at it but not may comment. Many on this site build other models of Olds classics too. Just keep moving along things are looking great. I'm on Protouring .com also.

If those are the brake lines you are installing. Why don't you just run the line along the lower bottom side of the cross member? The passenger side is not going to clear your headers or manifold. Seams like a lot of bends.

Those are pre bent lines, the original lines were routed that way also. Once I drop the engine in I will adjust and bend accordingly.

Thank you, very much!
I recently watched a 65 442 with a fuel injected motor and new model tranny that was a pro touring car sell for 39,000 and a few minutes later a cherry perfect low mile black on black 4 speed correct original sell for 29,000.
its to each his own. I choose to drive my car and enjoy driving it, with the factory set up i had a high first and low second, i found myself on the interstate doing 3000 rpm at 55, this was my fathers car, I want to drive it and be comfortable and keep it, which may add value or devalue the car, i personally dont care.
What I can say, is that I will be able to drive it for several hundred miles with the air on and the stereo going to some car shows, beat up on some muscle cars in a red light race, do pretty well in a road course race, and take it back home and rub on it as I please and thats my goal.

Wow very nice build I think you owe your friends a few beers. As far as modifying it well that is up to you. I am more of a purist but I really like the work you did it was not overboard like most. You will have a great looking classic that goes like a raped ape stops quick and handles well.

Gene,

I installed hooker competition headers last night, they clear great, I didnt have to tweak or bend the brake lines at all. I do however appreciate your keen eye, I thought the same, maybe luck or good manufacturers but it turned out great, ironically I always hear the horror of headers also, and mine fit perfect, no banging beating etc, I actually installed the headers myself, and had them installed complete in less than 20 minutes, I was prepared for a 4 hour battle

Core support repair and install,
After taking the core support to powder coating I assume when it got sand blasted it unconvered several rust issues, we had to replace the mounting tabs on the drivers side, build a battery box and replace quite a bit of metal in the battery box area.
