What are these numbers on my 71 cutlass convertible frame? They do not match my Vin number and I am very curious Are they just a part number?

Vin number

OK, I see what these numbers are. My question is and I know I have seen it before that the vin number would be here. Where is the Vin number stamp at on the frame or should it be?

Look on the top of the frame about where the drivers' door would be above.
See an example on this thread: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...d-frame-41249/

Should be generally in area where 'oldoldss' example shown.
While mine is a '69 it is more forward of the example, and more on 'vertical' portion of frame and not on top like the post example.
Presuming area differed a bit between 69 & 72...

3992389 is the part number for a 1968-72 Olds A-body convertible frame.
The S in a circle designates A.O. Smith manufacturer.
370 is a control number.

7 14 is July 14th. There should be a shift and assembly line code after that but I can't read them. The CS is an application suffix that should correspond to the frame code on the build sheet..

It takes a while sometimes for Joe P to read every post.

I have always found the VIN stamped on top of the frame right where the drivers door is. Look harder. My GSX was stamped twice there.

I've been on Power Tour all week and not exactly keeping up with the interwebs.

It appears Smokin' Joe, rocket scientist and aero engineer, has returned to us, despite the wrecks, thefts, and breakdowns commonly found on the Tour.

Eight days, ten states, 2,900 miles, and a few thousand dead bugs later.
