36 ford data plate vin# question

Hey guys was looking at a nice 36 ford
the guy changed the frame out from a 36 to a 39 from what i gathered on the internet 36 fords don't have a data plate they go by the frame numbers.
what happens if it dosn't match or you get a custom frame.

Don't know about NY but I think most states DMV in regards to a new frame will assign a new VIN number that you have to stamp into your frame. Or if you have the paperwork from the original car with the frame number on it you can call your local Police Dept/ Sheriff/ Highway Patrol and they will send an Officer out to verify the paperwork and watch you stamp the original numbers into the new frame. VIN numbers weren't displaayed on the dash untill 1968 If my old memory serves me. So to be sure, ask your DMV.

The VIN was stamped two places on 1930s Fords.
On the very top of the transmission case . And on the top of the frame rail near the steering box . If I remember correctly , the frame number is hidden by the inner front fender. The number on the trans is obscured by the floorboard , but a "window" can be opened in the floorboard to view it .
Do you have the original '36 trans case ? Does it match the title ?

If not , then the vehicle will probably have to be registered as a "homebuilt vehicle ' or whatever they call it in your state .
