Detailing the engine compartment in mine. Finished redoing the radiator support, air cleaner and brake booster, now doing the hood hinges. The might as well's got the better of me again. LOL

Finished restoring my 64 442 emblems, what a PITA. Tedious work to repaint the background for each number. Also sanded and polished the emblems before paint. Now starting on the dash emblem.

I "officially" handed the keys over to the youngest, it is his graduation present! It will still live with us while he's going to school in Nebraska, but it is officially his now! Proud!

Thanks, but step-dad, actually... The car was his Father's pride and joy and he passed away in 2009. The car had sat for 5 years with a bad transmission before I started the repairs and both he and his brother have really loved having this car back on the road. The smiles they have when driving it make it all worth while...

In Missouri, you can get a YOM (year of manufacturing) license plate. I have a 1965 Cutlass,and found a 1965 license plate, than can be registered to my car. It is like a historical plate. No more safety inspections and never have to renew plate. The best part is the last three numbers . It reads 442. It is not a personalized plate , but one that reads like one. I do not have a 442, but it is a 330 4 speed ,4bbl, dual exhaust.

Well got the intake and carb on and took for a test run and the timing slipped and locked the engine up or something.
Had to get towed home for 3.5 blocks.
Sunday is going to be "pull the engine out and see what new goodies Im going to order Monday"!!!

Put in new pistons, hydraulic lines, and motor and now have a functioning folding top on the car for the first time in 22 years (PO used to tug it up and down). Was a pain to bleed but got it done.

First I changed the oil and filter (Fram filter, Valvoline Racing Oil, ZDDP and a bottle of Lucus) and then gave her a bath. I cleaned and treated the top with RaggTop and man it looks nice. I may take the wife out to breakfast in here tomorrow. It is about to get too warm in Texas to take a convertible out during the day. That is why I am rounding up the stuff I need to put a Vintage Air in her.

It was very good of you to make your step-sons dream come true. He will remember the quality time spent with you on this project and will reinforce the memory of his dad for the rest of his life. I bet you scored some brownie points with mom also.

Picked up alot of pieces/parts from the media blaster, spent a couple hours sanding and smoothing the finish, today they all go into etching primer. It sure saved me many hours of sanding and cleaning the small parts, the media blaster does alot of high end work and leaves a finish almost as smooth as glass beading. If anyone needs a good place to do their work and live near Central Ohio, contact Bill Karns @614 877 3327, he is a private blaster who has his shop on his farm, he works very affordable. He did the entire frame and all of the control arms and picked it up for $250.00 The fenders, core support,pedal assm and two tubs of smalls cost less than $250.00

all I am able to do (not working and no $$$$$) is finish getting the engine running ie: radiaotor new fluids drain oil and put new oil in reprime the oil pump etc. and finaly get the old girl running.
and in the meantime as I find a job to earn $$$$ for other parts I need I will be practicing on my welding

Saturday I found new rotors and calipers at the boneyard.
Today I replaced the rickety throbbing pulsating front brakes with the newer parts. Found that I need front hoses, but the lines may not be unscrewable. Adjusted the self adjusters on the rear- turning the inboard side of the star wheel DOWN tightens the adjuster- after 10 m of going the wrong way...
They need a day or two to break in and become mated again, but so far, yeah well worth the 3 hrs work and $20 at the boneyard.
Here's a new rotor
and here are the pads I took off
I had to re-use the old calipers for now due to time constraints and no rubber hoses available tonight.
Brakes are much smoother and better but still not up to snuff.
Did a hard stop test tonite and got out to feel the brakes and found the rear are not even activating. Fronts are smooth and nice. That coating of rust came right off.
Would like to do the booster and master cylinder but the Homecoming Swap Meet & Show is Saturday.

Yea, of the two boys I was expecting his older brother to be more of a gear-head but this kid comes out to the garage for any project! I look forward to those times more than I ever imagined I would.
As for his mother... After the Cutlass resto, the plumbing and cabinet installations in the basement, rewiring the fusebox, kitchen cabinet installation, putting trim in the basement bathroom, gutter installations, building an entertainment center, and building a new deck I've started looking back at when we met and trying to remember if she was snooping around about my tools and mechanical skills! lol

Ordered a HD water pump and a fuel pump from Autozone.
I look the numbers up and take them with me to make sure I get what I want.
Also painted my pullies and also decided to use a flex fan instead of the dirty, rusty factory unit and it will work because I'll have a new radiator to go along with it.

As far as what I've done to my car, not much lately. It got a bath Friday evening and I've a pair of valve cover gaskets and a blower motor to install.

Well, yesterday my son and I changed all 3 belts on the CC. I let him do the last one (alt). This morning, I reinstalled it after it fell off. Evidently I'm not as good a teacher as I thought.

Started on the '71 Cutlass S's brakes with my 13 year old daughter :-)
Got one wheel cylinder replaced, snapped the brake line. Not surprised. Didn't get much further than that as I spent more time explaining stuff to her. That, and letting her rev the growly 403 in the '72.
She's hooked.

Finally got around to checking my timing as it has been starting hard when hot. Found that it was @ 18 initial and 38 all in! A bit much. Backed it down to 16/36. Starts and runs great!
