I finished installing the rebuilt treadle vac and bled the brakes yesterday. Today I cleaned it up and took it for a short drive this afternoon with the top down.

Well I sold my fiberglass fenders and I bought some nice steel ones that need a little work so I took these off for the buyer to come pick them up.

I converted the oil bath Batwing air cleaner to a dry filter with a Wix filter. I took the whole thing to O'Reilly and laid it on the counter and found a filter that would work. It was easier than I expected. I just keep chipping away at these little things.

Replaced stock control arms with tubular control arms. Replaced the old worn steering linkage with Hotchkis.
Now front end is completely new.

Body Separation

I've finished welding in the new floor pan so I pulled the body off the chassis to start working the frame.

Exclamation Beware the space heater!!

Removed and wire brushed rear driver brake drum. Cleaned and painted it. Also cleaned inside rear wheel. Garage heater had power outlet glowing. Shut off electric and unhooked melted outlet. Amazing how just plugging in a shop light along with that heater pushed that circuit over the edge! Electrician coming Monday to put in dedicated circuit. That close call could have put an end to the cutlass ...

spent time Checking timing and putting the grilles and stone shield together... found out the hard way that the 72 clips for the grills are shorter than the 71 clips... so tomorrow I pull the 72 clips off and drag them up to sand blast, then paint... Charging up the battery for a "hopeful" start in the morning....

More progress on the 88 today... Replaced the neutral safety switch and tore off the crap ignition hackjob the previous owner did. Also replaced the turn signal switch, so now I can indicate where I'm going

Next up is the brakes. Replaced the calipers today but need to bleed the system and replace all fluid. As soon as the brakes are done, the car is road ready. (well, except for the plates. Haven't received them back yet from restoration)

66 Cutlass Hood

Guys:
Got back from Hinkley Ohio w/ a like new hood for my 66 Cutlass from a fellow CO member, zero rust or soft spots anywhere on it! The price was very right as well, he was not trying to get rich off the sale, just help a fellow Olds guy out, for that I thank you again. I only need to find 2 door sedan doors now worthy of the major resto project we are doing, the stuff is out there guys, just keep up the search and you will find it. Network w/ fellow members if possible, alot of my cream puff parts have come from you guys.
Thanks Ron

I un-wrapped my prepped block, wiped it down in preparation for the completion of the "short block"- picking up the stroked crank on Monday, Cam from Mark is on it's way too.

I finished installing a 4 speed center console in a 65 cutlass with bucket seats. I bought a repop door hinge and found out it was put together wrong. It was hinging the wrong direction. It was a lot of fun doing this in the car. Now I am looking for a console mounted tach or a vacuum gauge.

Dropped her off at the upholstery shop. Getting new seats and new carpet.
Going with the old school look on the new custom seats.
Hate the original's cause they don't recline.

Replaced both rear shocks yesterday. I replaced front some time ago. Rides quite well. Dose not slop along the road anymore and goes around corners and roundabouts now very stable. Old shocks were Delco Pleasuriz..... something. Old shocks absolutely cactus, no pressure at all and one leaked oil.

What kind of seats did you get? I'm rebuilding a '72 cutlass conv and thinking of installing better seats than the original buckets. Would be curious to know what direction you went with your new seats. Thanks!

Honestly I couldn't tell you. The seats came out of my buddy's car, he wanted bench seat in it. All I know is they were brand new they were in the car when he bought it. low back seats really nice, more lumbar support but not too sporty and they recline. I am 6'3" so I need a little more room.
I can post pictures when they are done.

Today

Ordered rear shocks for my 70 442. Bought the +2" to raise my back end so the DS will stop hitting the tranny tunnel.

Also replaced the wiper motor, last one failed all bench checks and appeared to have melted the plastic washer cover.

Next mission, wire the horn up.

I finished my dash yesterday for my 67. Sent it for chrome a while back, painted it myself which was quite a pain in the a$$. I think it came out ok. All my gauges were in good shape i just cleaned them and got the clock working. If it quits working ill just convert it to quartz. My hat is definately off to Ron Roth, he has to have a lot of patience to do so many of these. His work is amazing. If mine is half as good as his im a happy guy.

Nice work Steve. Where does one find the tic tock tac
for a 66-67? Were they available for the 66? I have also
been looking for a repo 442 vert bezel for the top switch. Any ideas?

True- Blue I got lucky, bought 2 cars last summer and both had the tic toc tac. There not easy to find. Another member here Ron Roth restores these dashes, hes a nice guy and does the best restorations you will find. Im sure he has parts but not sure if he sells just individual parts because of course he needs them for his restos. As far as the bezel I dont know if anyone repops them, but surley someone here has a nice one. And no I dont think the tic toc tac was available for the 66, I do think there was a dash mounted tach for that year. From what i understand tic toc tac started in 67, but i dont see why you couldnt put one in your car.
Steve

Disassembled rear brakes, cleaned them and slapped them back together. Everything OK - no ugly surprises.

Added a touch of zinc alloy.

Take a look at Chicago CL. Someone has had a vac gauge for sale for a couple years. He wants 150, but what you want and what you get are 2 different things.

Today was V-day, so i treated Lady out for a whole day.
First showed her off at work, and let her bask in the warm 70* sunshine we had today. After work I took her to get a new inspection sticker, and then took her for a full tank of gas. As always she sang beautifully and gave me a heck of a memorable ride!
Tomorrow will be a road trip to Sulphur Springs.

Springs in the Spring

Spent this wonderful spring day changing out my rear springs, gas tank and tightening up the shifter linkage with new bushings and keepers. While I was there also changed the rear shocks. Was so content with the weather, changed the fuel and vent lines out. Many more nice days and I'll be broke.
