What have you done to your Oldsmobile today
#362
Sounds good in theory, but it's not quite that easy. They're only going to be held to paying what a legitimate appraisal would say it was worth prior to the wreck, and a lawyer would probably want close to the value of the car to handle the case if it went all the way to court. Around here they get a minimum of $1000 to walk in a courtroom, not counting prep or hourly time to litigate it. Unless there's injury involved they've pretty much got a tight box to work within on property value.

If you say so. First thing you do is have classic car insurance with agreed upon value. Second thing you do is make their insurance pay that amount, or very close to it, using your insurance as the bulldog. Retain possession of the car and title, and get the almost totalled agreed amount. Then, if you need a lawyer, sue, win, and have them pay all court costs and fees.

Claim on my car is settled. Definitely came out on top of that one. I've got a tow dolly rented and I'm off bright and early on Saturday to go look at this one. If it is everything its said to be I'll be bringing it home.

OK. So here it is. Bodywork and repaint in original color was done in 2005. 350 has been rebuilt. Runs good. Brakes and interior need work and needs passenger side floor fixed. Other than everything I need I can pull off my wrecked one . will be looking for a nicer front bumper though, and going to buy OAI hood for it.

Nothing yet today but last night I bent up and flared some new brake lines, MC to prop valve. The previous night I installed 5.5"x11" 125lb/in rear springs. We'll see what tonight has in store, no shortage of things to do

Yesterday I finally got around to cleaning up the inner wheel wells on my '71! Took the wheels off and went to work. Sprayed generously with Spray Nine and let soak for a bit. Then, with rubber gloves and 2 different styles of scrub brushes, went to town in the wells! Scrubbed like a madman... rinsed with garden hose and then repeated. They looked 10 times better than before. I was most suprised with the fronts...the black plastic cleaned up incredibly well and actually looks like 5 years old instead of 40.

Finally got to take road test # 1 with my black 98 after a year long engine overhaul/detailing. Found a few bugs that I already started working out.
1) One of the alternator brushes was somehow stuck in the holder so the GEN light was on and the battery was not charging. Happy to say I made it home no problem but the battery needed a full charging after that. New brushes and springs, back in and just fine now.
2) LH exhaust manifold donut gasket is leaking. I made a stupid mistake and installed it upside down the first time and before I realized it, it was already fairly crushed. I tried to re-use it but I think it's too far gone. Picking up a new one and putting that in tonight. That should take care of that one pretty quickly.
3) Feels like the brakes need some adjusting (rear). Going to pull the rear wheels off first and see how the brakes look, adjust as necessary. May just as well pull the front wheels and give the calipers a once over, clean and grease the pins, etc.
Shooting for an all-Olds show on Sunday so I'm working late every night!

Got up and hit the road dark and early at 630 and went down to Warminster, PA to Fiber Concepts and picked up my new hood. Rob was great. Told me all about how they make the hoods and what I can expect as far as some massaging I may have to do and in what areas. Then he helped me wrap it up and get it strapped down for the ride home. He's got a hell of a shop there. Lots a muscle cars being worked on. Very cool!

On Saturday I took advantage of what is probably the last hot day of the year in the DC area (it was 90 degrees).
Took the wife and kids for a 2 hour drive with the top down up to Louden county Virginia. There was a fall festival going on, complete with food and a corn maze. Lots of fun, and just an all around good day.

Pulled the dead radio out today,( which means you gotta take out the glovebox first) looking for a short in the wiring someplace.I hate electrics and working upside down. Finally found the inline fuse holder was broken like I've never seen one break before and did a repair, all's well now I have great AM radio again.
. Felt so good I chased down a problem with a courtesy light that wouldn't come on when the door opened and fixed that!
As far as I know everything the car came with when new now operates like it should. If only the owner was in as good of shape.

This week I tackled the timing chain on my '83, waiting on some parts before I continue. I removed the front calipers in the meantime to paint them, something I should've done when I bought them over a year ago before they rusted. Still need to redo the frame rails.

Today I managed to yank out the broken dipstick tube. It was broken flush to the block. Man what a pain in the ****! Even with ez-outs and vice grips it still took me a good hour and a half plus a dinged bloody finger. :/
Now I'm finishing my coffee and gonna head out to the shop to pick up my valve covers and bolts/screws.

Replaced the brake booster
and master cylinder today.
Stops a lot better than it did.![Smile](https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
A disc brake conversion is in order though.
Also replaced my 442 breather with a nice
Oldsmobile open element unit. I like it.

Removed the floor pan!
I drilled out 150+ spot welds on the rocker panels and the rotted floor is finally history! Next step is patching the LH & RH toe boards, then in with a complete new floor. I feel like Fred Flintstone when I stand in the middle of the car, feet on the floor - LOL. Here's a link to my MajorBuilds thread:
