What have you done to your Oldsmobile today

Well been having troubles.
I messed (fixed) the fuel line coming out of the gas tank and must have got dirt in the line and it went strait to the carb!
Flooded and fouled the plugs.
The Number 1 and 3 plug were black, all the rest were clean.
I caught it by using my timing light to see which ones were fireing for the light to work then switched the plugs around and the #1 plug wouldn't fire in any hole but those plugs fired in the #1 hole.
So NGK 3332s here I come.

High speed tune up
I reached 90mph in the convertible this week on a service road next to a golf course. For tune up purposes only, of course.
She was still pulling but I was running out of road and had to ease up. Its about a 3/4mile long two lane road that nobody uses. Nice.

Did a test run yesterday after replacing radiator/ heater hoses, thermostat and coolant. Checking for leaks and stabilizing the coolant level before the woodward dream cruise. Good news I messed up, no leaks to speak of!

Installed a Hurst Dual Gate shifter a couple weeks ago but could not reach first gear because of the reproduction shift selector bracket. I slotted it as far as I could and it still was not enough. Today I cut the bracket apart and positioned it as needed and welded it back together. Now all gears work as they should.

Pulled the cam out of the 455 and put the bronze washer behind the gear on it as well as the steel spacer on the crank to space the lower gear an equal amount, then installed the button. (all this from Dick Miller)
Put the cam in and installed 2 lifters and adjusted valves on #1 with magic marker on tip of valve stem to check pattern of pushrods I just bought. Going to adjust the rest of valves tomorrow and permanently install intake.

Got a few more parts ready to install on my engine last night. This week I've been blasting and painting parts and hardware, etc. Planning on having the power steering pump, alternator and RH manifold painted and mounted over the next few days. LH manifold is done already and looking sweet mounted against the newly painted block!

Finished converting the way-back rear vent windows from manual to power on my '92 Custom Cruiser. The actuators are small cable operated electric units from '78-'80 4dr G bodys like the Malibu with power windows. As the old Statler Brothers song Flowers on the Wall line says,"Now dont tell me I've nothin to do".
Now I'm going to go play solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of 51.

Today, I finally fixed the exhaust leak at the right side manifold on my '67 Delta...had a scare when I went to tighten the bolts and snapped the head off one! After taking the manifold back off, I was able to unscrew the remainder of the broken bolt with my fingers.....turns out it wasn't even tight! After examining the broken bolt, it was apparent it was already cracked! Lesson learned, spend the money on new hardware, and don't rely on 46 year old bolts! Anyway, after installing new bolts and gasket, then torquing......LEAK WAS STILL THERE! Lucky, two gaskets in a kit.....doubling them up finally solved the leak!

Put on a new water pump a couple days ago. Thinking I should've sprung for the gold paint but then I'd end up wanting to do the entire motor .. just been checking the coolant ratio lately.
Trans seal will hopefully be the next project.

Today I've managed to do a few things:
1) Yanked out the passenger-side head. Both heads and intake go for inspection next week.
2) Somewhat fixed the passenger-side rear quarter window. Need the plastic guides (thread to follow)
This is being quite the project...

I think that's the edge of my mud flap - unless you're referring to something somewhere else on the tire?
That was after a frantic dash out of the car, in the rain, after an impromptu trip to the beach - at 2 AM...

Ahhhh yes, what have I done is the question.
Carb is tore apart again and ripped the rubber diaphragm in the 30CC pump housing, so it sits another day.
Trying to get rid of the carb demons but not having much luck.
This is where other times I would fold and start the "for sale " proceedings.
But we have our yearly cruise the first of of September and I don't want to be without so I trudge on even to limp it up and down the street!

Pulled the gas tank out of the white 67. I was amazed at the shape all the hardware was in and that the top of the tank was still shiny under the sound mat. Just wanted to drain it all out and get rid of the nasty old gas odor. Fuel lines were pretty mushy too. Then took the SSII's (ya, I know they're not correct, but the SSI's are still in need of sneakers) off of the black 442's chassis that's undergoing a frame off and put them on the white one just to make me feel better.

Finally freakin success!
Brand new carb's needle and seat would stick closed, no gaskets on the screw and nut on the needle, little rubber plunger in the pump was broke off, This was a new carb????
Anyway I put back the 72 jets and 6.5 power valve and didn't mess with the screw in air bleeds and thats a good thing.
Its lope is back and instant throttle response and I hear and feel the 4 barrel kick in, and no nose dive when I get into it!
Now moving on, really I love the fight???

Spent a few hours yesterday replacing weatherstripping. I have finished up the D-pillars, the doors and the convertible top.
Sometimes I wonder why I bother though. Yes all of the weatherstripping was dry rotted, but I never take her out in the rain, and only on days when the top can be down anyway. Oh well, it gave me something to do.

Got some more work done on my friend's '76 98 Regency. I'm correcting a ton of bad wiring mods that were done over the years and rebuilding the entire dash for him. So far, I finished the main cluster with all new bulbs and rebuilt all of the components like the vents, controls, etc. Last night I installed the rebuilt glovebox and fixed a couple more bad wires. I installed the radio only to find out it doesn't work so that's going to set things back a little bit unfortunately. Overall it's coming together pretty well but it's sad how much shotty work has been done on his poor car over the years.

Very nice. Glad you didn't slam it like a hoodlum.
Edit: Oh, and I bought some stuff on ebay for my 442. Next year, it will live with me (finally)

Rebuilt carb got 2nd place in show.
Car quit on me on Friday night. Popped the hood and carb was spewing fuel. Haggerty ins road side assistance is awesome, flat bed back to the house. Tracked down a rebuilt kit in town for quadrajet and rebuilt it on Saturday. Got it running about 5pm and then cleaned her up. I was able to make to the northern Ohio olds club show in alliance. Took 2nd place in the 68-72 442.
