We are screwed

I have a couple friends who've done the complete delete (including EGR) & flashed new program(s) on Ford turbo diesels. I consider myself one of the extremely lucky few w/ an original OEM 6L (2003) Navistar. I've always had respect for IH engines. It was Phord who introduced the changes not Navistar. I digress.
It really chaps my *** that the epa has mandated all this troublesome emissions crap that kills performance and adds more headaches, maintenance and expense and then fines the owner for fixing the truck.
I plan to keep my 06 Ram for as long as possible for this very reason. It’s paid for, it is easy to work on, and doesn’t have all the crap the new trucks have.

Better plan on keeping the truck forever!! The epa is monitoring for sale ads, if the ad contains the words “tuned” “deleted” or other similar phrases they can revoke your registration.

I highly doubt this. They might go after the companies that provide the parts and the service/s to enable to mods, but not the end users, it's just not practical. The EPA went after the aftermarket over tuning around catalytic converters for gas powered which is why it isn't easy anymore. No tuners will program a work around.

That is not the EPA, that is State government. State inspections (in states that do it) is the place they catch mods and force some sort of action. This is a first, forcing someone to destroy their truck. Seems he's the one and only person to have had this happen after a quick google.

In my opinion these guys have the attitude and skin in the game for a practical solution. \ You and I all know the crux...

I've watched that channel on several occasions past couple years. They are, however, very, very, very small potatoes when it comes to enabling EV. I agree with his latter statements - the Europeans are ~10-15 years (maybe light years) ahead of ANY U.S.A. manufacturers. There are far more commercial EV transport Lorries riding asphalt than ANY U.S.A. corporation.

Yes Norm they are small Taters. I believe that is my most appeal with their concepts. KISS. Based on an all or nothing EV train they aint get'n on.
They also embrace the concepts of let owners maintain and service their own equipment with basic tried and true replacement parts not locked out by some computer operated "Protected" system. Look at the farm tractor industry...
The direction they have taken with the tried and true Electromotive train industry diesel/electric generation operation systems.
America does not even have close to the infrastructure needed for an all electric based vehicle format, nor should we be comfortable with that as a viable solution for our transportation industry. Engines and Motors dont ya think that will better serve all involved...

I don't know who started talking about a turbo. Don't need no stinkin' turbo!

I love electricity; however, the type of energy we harness & the method(s) we employ to convert energy into electricity to perform work is flawed. I personally believe the bottleneck resides with the turbine. We need to ditch the turbine and find a better source for conversion.
#52
Thats one to ponder Norm. Based on the 60hz infrastructure, thats one of the struggles with wind and sun ...inconsistent "choppy" sinusoidal phase wave. Most systems are only 20-30% efficient of rated capacity. Like a cruise control always trying to catch up or slow down

Something similar. Currently, I believe hydrogen (as a fuel source) is the 1° candidate being examined as a possible fuel cell. However, I believe sunlight (of a particular wavelength) might be a better fuel source. If that were the case, we'd need to develop a fuel cell utilizing sunlight as the 1° fuel source. We're close to mating physics, chemical physics & biochemistry with some form of advancements in fuel technology. We oft times infer energy must be converted in some monstrous mechanical physical form mere humans deem appropriate. Photosynthesis is nearly 100% efficient in the conversion of photon energy to electron (excitation) energy (w/in two particular wavelengths - 430 nanometers (nm) (blue light) & 662 nm. All living organisms capable of photosynthesis convert those two wavelengths from photon energy to electron energy to produce proteins which produce saccharides (sugars) w/ near 100% efficiency of energy transfer.

This is how things always work, someone will come up with a good design to produce electricity and transportation will follow.
The government's role is to push this along with incentives such as rebates and loans. They'll be failures for sure but they'll also be successes.
Gasoline beat out electricity and steam early in the automobile's life. I'm sure there were people very upset with this for one reason or another, just like today. If nothing else, people are predictable.

Wind turbines and solar farms use phase locked DC-to-AC inverters to sync to the grid frequency. WAY more efficient than your claims. This isn't rocket science.
#58
Unfortunately, governments look backward and provide incentives for yesterday's technologies. However, problems are usually solved by new sets of ideas that develop outside of government incentive programs.

Lets keep the derogatory political comments out of this, be respectful and discuss it rationally. It's easy for the states to say they are going to do this, actually doing it is something totally different. I don't think most of the general public is ready for EV's yet. What this will do is drive up the value of gas powered used vehicles in these states.

This is a perfect example of why you should NOT simply believe or link to random articles on the web that may or may not be true. First question to ask yourself is who or what is "Kobocents" or "Steve Cummings", and why should you believe them? Do you even know if this was posted by a real person or a bot? And if you spend the time to actually research a claim before you re-post it, you'll find that in nearly all cases these are PROPOSED laws limiting the sale of NEW cars, not in-place laws banning ICE vehicles (or did you not get past the headline?). Until the total carbon footprint of EVs is actually determined and the electric grid gets dramatically upgraded, no politician who wants to be re-elected will pass these laws.
the party that’s been trying to force it on you for years is in power right now.

The whole conversation is futile and naive.
The world passed the tipping point about 25 years ago. Might as well enjoy our fossil fuels while we can still drive around in convertibles without putting on our HazMat gear,
