Inside Window Felts - HELP!

Guys - I was working on the door panels of my 66 Cutlass today and took the inner window felts off. They were stapled in. The kit that I got from Legendary has the same clips on the inside "Sweeps" as the outsides.

Do I need to remove these clips and find staples or drill holes and use the screws they provided ?

Of course there are no instructions.

I searched CO here and and couldnt find any threads that helped.

Thanks!

GUY

The problem that arises is no one has that big of a staple gun in there tool box that they would probably use only twice a lifetime. I believe originally they were all stapled but I have often wondered if a pop rivet would work if you could get it flat enough, never seen screws used, might work as well as pop rivet though. ...Tedd

I've just done mine on my '63 Starfire and I glued them on adding small screws to totally secure. The small screw heads laid below the felt level when tightened down.

I just got my new felts from Legendary(after only 6 months) and they gave me new staples for the inners. I have a '72, but the principles are probably the same. They are made by Repops, and did come with brief instructions. The inner sweeps have staple holes pre-drilled, and they say to clamp the sweep in place on the panel and use it as a template to drill new holes in the panel, since the old holes don't line up. They did say to avoid pop-riveting, as this could be visible when the windows are down. I'm surprised that the new sweeps you got don't have the same attachment setup as the originals. I personally would take it up with Legendary to make sure you got the right sweeps. The first ones they sent me were incorrect, and it took me nearly 2 months to get the correct replacements. Best of success. Chumley

staples would be best, but i used pop rivets on mine and painted the heads black to blend in. hardly noticable.

Use the existing holes in the metal rail, drill through the felt strip, and crimp the new staples with pliers and a backing piece (I used a brass nut).
