Steering Box - Code/Stamp

Ignoring the larger question of whether even having the original steering box is important to car's originality (to me, no it isn't), did factory parts have any code (date, manufacturer, etc.) which could suggest originality ? Before i send mine in as a core after buying a remanufactured one, I want to know what I'm sending back.

The steering box on my '68 had a part number of 5691676 cast into it, with a date code of "92". The cover to the steering box had a part number of 5689023 and a date code of "95". Those part numbers are correct for my car and the date codes are consistent with the build date of my car.
