Name two safety features available on early '70's Toros that sort of faded away but now are standard on pretty much every car on the planet.

 

I'll take a stab at this one...

High mounted brake lights, and dual line master cylinder?

Although I believe those were late 60's features, not early 70's, but I know they were both implemented about that time.

I wasn't even thinking of the brake lights - but definately will give you that - a Toro specialty for sure - the Master was more brand wide and never really faded away after it was introduced...so I'll say 50%!

 

Well, truth be told, the dual master was a nationwide mandate in 1967 for all manufacturers, but that was the only other thing that came to the top of my head. I'll keep the thinking cap on, and the dunce cap handy if needed.

Oh, and since I got partial credit, I have been trying to research a question of my own from memory (which is spotty at best going that far back....LOL) but I seem to recall there was a cutlass / supreme body in the mid 70's that had a VERTICAL radio mount. I could very well be remembering it incorrectly, but I swear I remember a buddy having one. Was curious if anyone knew what year that might have been. I can't find any pics or information on it no matter how much I dig. I was going to use it as a question here if I could find out myself, but after a few days of searching, I can't pin it down and curiosity is now getting the better of me. Do I have a crossed file-drawer in the old MKI brain bucket, or was this actually something that Olds did for a year?

 

I can't think of one but 73-77 are fuzzy for me - never owned one so I don't know the ins and outs of them....someone on here will know I'm sure

 

That's the exact range it would have fallen into. I had a 76 as my first real car, and there were a few other HS friends that had some similar ones too. I believe the one I was thinking about was earlier than mine, but like I said, that's quite a ways back in the memory department...

Airbag(s) and seat belt reminders?

 

I was looking for airbags (had one of these...too far gone so it went away). They may have had the reminder too but I know the cutlasses did too after '72...was looking for another feature that was Toro only...

 

Antilock brakes

 

Yes! They were called "Tru(e?) Track" and hydraulically prevented the rear wheels from locking up in a panic stop.

You've listed only four divisions. There were actually five that sold the G-body (and the A-body). Think GMC Sprint/Caballero (aka El Camino). Unfortunately, five is not the right answer, either.

That's five, but still not correct. Obviously, I'm looking for a vehicle sold by more than five.

Nice try, but the Saturn L-series isn't a J-body. It's a rebadged Opel Vectra (same platform as the Saab 9-5, by the way).

OK, another hint. One of the vehicles in the set I'm looking for has paced the Indy 500.

Set your "safe" speed and if you hit that speed it would buzz to let you know you were there...I suspect you have it on your '63 Starfire!

 

Right on both accounts..I had it on a 62 LeSabre too, but don't know what Buick called it...... Very annoying feature, never use it.
