Need help deciphering cowl tag
It reads as follows:
ST71 34487LAN229104 BDY

From my limited research I was able to figure out that it is:
1. 1971
2. 2 door holiday coupe
3. 442
4. Built in Lansing, MI
5. Saturn Gold exterior
If there is anything else you can tell me I'd appreciate it.

Some of it is in the 71 CSM (Chassis Service Manual). Some of it came from the Olds 442, W-Machines & Hurst Olds ID Numbers book. The CSM is available to read and download for free on the Wild About Cars website. Membership is also free. Here's an example of the E file (just one part) for your 71 442

This book is another good source of info:

The 71 Cutlass Assembly manual also has info regarding color combos and trim

There's a whole whack of info out there, just have to know where to look. Also, I'm an Olds nut for the last 44 years. After a while this stuff starts to grow on you. But with a good shower and soap scrub it washes off
Feel free to call on us whenever you need a question answered, or you just want to chat. Hope the info is of some value to you.
