Rookie Question re: Vintage Olds Indentification Help Needed. Deciphering Tags?
Greetings from DC,
Just tried my first post and the Rookie screwed it up and sent it who knows where. Here's my 2nd try.
I'm helping some neighborhood kids clear out their home before it's put on the market. The mom just lost a battle to cancer and the deadbeat dad blew town cuz he couldn't deal with it. Gotta love his courage.
Here's the deal: The home has an antique Olds in the garage that hasn't budged in decades. They can't sell it because they don't have a title. I'm working with a cop buddy to get a replacement title but he couldn't backcheck the plate # since since it was from 1980. He needs a serial # to dig up information on the original title.
I opened the hood and found the following info:
Plate One: Oldsmobile 76-114349
Plate Two: Style 46-3607
Body 15909
Trim 3
Paint 69
I'd be much obliged to get as much information on this car from the intel provided. I'm sure a lot of you can decipher this stuff in your sleep so I'll
await word from the grizzled veterans on this site.
Best,
Jimmer17

Welcome,
Pictures are worth 1K words. Is this a pre or post war car? None of those numbers make sense with any of the decoders I used. Which tells me its pre 1946 possibly a 76 series 4 door? Where specifically under the hood are these tags located? Is there a vin number on the dash as a modern car would have? Load up a picture or two, Below is what sizes work on this site. Sign up as a member and then you can go to the advanced tab then the manage attachments tab and load up a pic or three so we can see what you have.
If you dont want to do that send pics directly to my email.

The style number 46-3607 identifies it as a 1946 Olds series 76 two door club sedan.
The number 76-114349 is the VIN. (serial number)
It was assembled at Lansing, Mich. and was painted Forest Green Metallic.

I sent scans of this book to Wild About Cars several months ago, I still don't think they have published them on their websight. Don't know for sure, because I don't go on their websight anymore since they started charging for it.
