Nope, my post was accurate and spot on since Terry has indicated she knows not a lot about these carbs or the choke systems. It was however incorrectly OVER analyzed and picked apart by your interpretation. The type of choke coil and housing on that 73 carb is EXACTLY the same as the one that would be found on a 72 7042250. THAT was the point, not what YOU thought I meant. I didn't imply anything - YOU are however. Spinach, Greens, whatever.

Wow. I would have just replaced the carb W/electric choke and been done with it. To much drama for me. Then if there is still a problem chase it from there. The carb is not right from the get go. JMO

If it were me i would pick up a rebuilt or new 600CFM edelbrock with a base plate and carb linkage ( from summit) hook it up and be done with it. I'm not the greatest with the q-jets myself when they start acting up. So the edelbrock was good in my case. Comes with a C/D for tuning if needed. Great for my wife as well, she just pumps it a couple times hits the key, fires up warms up a couple minutes then she's off shopping.
Cheers

Terry - I don't know what your carb rebuild status is, but I'm sure it'll work out one way or another. Good luck with the carb, install and adjustment. It would be nicer IMO if you could get a good 71-73 core and use that instead of the one that's causing you all this headache. There are quite a few guys on this site who part out cars and could likely sell you one at reasonable cost for a rebuild. Then at least you could use your 72 Oldsmobile CSM to keep it properly adjusted. There's a whole section about carb rebuild and adjustment in section 6.

Let's clear some of this up. I responded to the post you made where you stated the following directly under your statement about the carb picture I posted. And you think it's unfair that I said that in return? YOU need to look at how a post will read before it's submitted. My response was reasonable.

So who's making assumptions now? I didn't say that it was on my shelf in Canada Eric. I said that pic was taken by me. Yeah, LAST YEAR before I SOLD it to a guy in TEXAS who is driving around with it bolted onto his 72 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. IMO you're the one making assumptions or implying things about my conversation in this thread. What I said stands. It is accurate and might even be helpful to Terry.

Terry is getting another carb that is being rebuilt by a member that lives close to her. It will have an electric choke. She is not rebuilding the carb currently on her engine. Hopefully this will solve most of her engine issues.

I guess I have higher-than-average reading comprehension skills since I knew this from what was posted.

Some folks need to take a step back and stop bickering, focus on the issue at hand, and try to be helpful instead of trying to be "right".

So, the car's dwell and timing got set properly, and the smoke / new old oil issues got squared away, right?

Perfect! At least that way she may also get some help with the install and setup. That's the way it should be in situations like this. Who's the member who's helping her out? I'd love to give a shout out to them and say 'Thank you!!'.

@ Octania, the plan is to replace the hunk of iron with a rebuilt carb, then attach vacuums etc, and all is adjusted on carbthen I will replace plugs again just in case of being fouled out, then the dwell and timing..

Once all that is done then I can concentrate on what Express Lube did
Since Express Lube BS, I have drained the oil 2 times and adjusted the carb with the mixtures trail and error after reading and reading, and the blue smoke had reduced

@ Fun71, oldcutlass, mdchanic, octania, allan R, 76olds thanks you too
ziff396 I like the way you think replace the carb W/electric choke and been done with it AMEN to that

and a shout out to all the advice, suggestions on the crappy carb I have..hopefully it will all be over soon with the other rebuilt carb thanks again hugs to all

Terry,
re: the plugs. I wouldn't throw away the ones that were in there, especially if you just put them in. Pull them, clean them and make sure the gap is right. Then just put them right back in. If they're fouled with oil, you have a much bigger problem than a carb. Plugs can tell you a lot from looking at their condition when they come out. If they're just dusted with soot from over rich ignition there's no point in spending $$$ on new plugs when these ones are still perfectly serviceable.

Here's a generic chart that shows some conditions that may be encountered with spark plugs. Yours should not be as severe as this since they're new and have relatively no mileage to speak of on them.

Put 'r' ther ... I think all these guys really helped out!! Sometimes thoughts and interpretations can be misleading at times as I do often.
Cheers to the other member helping you out with a carb, along with all the posters here.
Both Eric's have helped me out greatly in the past, My car wouldn't be what it is today if it wasn't for these guys here at CO!!
I hope you get your car running good soon Terri.
Cheers

Care to post a short video of it up and running? Sort of like posting a pic, just it's a video. Love to see and hear what's been done. Now go get your 'fix' on the beltway

Thank you guys

Thank you so much everyone..hugs to u all
After we left hospital I did take the day off to spend with my other sister Ana.
@Eric yes I am good. She (yoli 61 yrs) fought for a long time, I knew her heart was too weak, my sister Ana 59 yrs was the one taking it the hardest. so I just wanted to be with her..
@Allan
My spirits are always up, always with a smile no matter what life brings my way. Im always giddy and silly, strong willed...

I did take DnD for a nice wash, hand dried the chrome and wheels, shined her up...she drove really nice...remarkable barely any smoke during the ride, even when idling...but I do her a new noise, someone mentioned lifter noise....only when I press on gas....u hear it like a soft click click....when idling u don't hear the click...sounds great actually

Thanks again to everyone again...your all so sweet truly my angels my blessing

I'm glad you're doing okay.

For the "click click" consider an exhaust manifold leak.

Usually only a minor problem.

Start the car when the engine is cold and hold you hand right up close to all of the joints between the exhaust manifolds and the block, and the manifolds and the exhaust pipes.

It may take a few tries because it warms up pretty fast, and then you can't hold your hand close enough.

The gaskets between the manifolds and the heads are okay, but there are no gaskets between the manifolds and the pipes, so if they leak, it can be a bit of a PIA.

Oldsmobiles did not have gaskets between the head and exhaust manifold from the factory, but if only a minor leak, you can put gaskets on to quiet it down and seal the leak. Considering what you have done in the past, this should be easy..unless the bolts are heavily rusted, so use a quality penetrating oil a couple of days before you attempt it.

Agreed, a slight exhaust leak will not cause any issues. And if it's not an exhaust leak but really is a lifter ticking, that shouldn't be an issue either.

But first you have to feel around and see whether you even have a leak in the first place.

One step at a time.

Maybe it's your spark plug wires, cap, or rotor, and not your carburetor.

Terry, does the DnD even have a carb? Most newer cars are TB and fuel injected. What year and model is it? Could also be something as simple as needing a new fuel filter.
