2014 Hot Rod Power Tour

I did a search and didn't come up with a thread for this yet.

I signed up for the Norwalk,OH to Crownpoint, IN Leg. I will be Leaving Flint, MI on Tuesday June 10th early am for Norwalk OH. Get my credentials. Then do the tour to Crownpoint the next day.

Anyone from Michigan going? Anyone from this forum going? This will be my first one. To say I'm a little excited is an understatement. Hopefully we can get a good representation of Oldsmobiles there..

We'll be there with some of our "New" NicKey built Super Cars.

If you can stretch your stay, the Chulla Vista Resort final Stop @ the Wisconsin Dells will be huge!

I live 15 minutes from the crown point square court house.. Where Dillinger escaped from..where are you guys supposed to stop at in crown... There is a car cruise 10 minutes from downtown crown point at Whites Pit Stop on Wednesdays also you can purchase high performance goodies. And the next day Thursday, you may miss this one there is a big car cruise at the crown point square itself.. If its a sunny day it can bring 300 cars or better, they start lining up at 2:30pm..

That's a whole lot of participants, should be an economical boost to crown point that week.

You guys aren't that far away from the remains of U.S 30 drag strip either.. Not much to it other than launch pad and straight away.. Never the less a great historic site.

White's Pit Stop and US 30. My old stomping grounds. I am in New Lenox Ill now. Hope to catch you at the fairgrounds. The Power Tour came through one time and was at the Tweeter Center off of I 80. Great show. I installed a TKO just so I could run on the highway on a leg or two of the tour. Come on summer!

The TKO is a Tremec 5 speed transmission:

FWIW, I was hoping to do one leg of Power Tour this year. I've never been before and I definitely need to drive my Olds this summer.

I'll be there as a long-hauler. I've already plunked down the non-refundable long-hauler gold package fee. It will be a lot of driving. I'll be heading from CT to the start, then driving home from Dells after. I planned to go last year but things got in the way. I've got things lined up well for this year and don't anticipate any scheduling fails.
I'll either be driving my 68 cutlass convertible with 455, 2004R, and 3.55 gears, or my 78 Anniversary Corvette with 350, 4 speed, and 3.3 gears. It all depends on which one seems the most dependable when it gets time.
Let's hope for good weather. Hope to meet you there.

p.s. The TKO is a heavy duty manual transmission with a modern overdrive gear.

I used to live in Tinley Park..moved there in 1981, at that time there where just stop signs and two lane streets...left Tinley in 88 moved back again 1994..took a job in Hammond Indiana in 1997 moved to out here..I have Inlaws still live in Tinley..Great Place..Congrats with that TKO, save some gas..they have a decent horsepower rating too..Whites pit stop moved from Lansing to schererville..great place I'm sure they get more business now since Van Senus closed in Hammond..I Hope to catch you in crown point..I may have to take the day off of work for this event..it will be worth it!

I will have a brand new rebuilt motor, still in the shop actually. So I wanted a chance to get some miles on it before doing the long haul.. Otherwise I would have done it also..

I will be in a 70 cutlass convertible. I will be the one with the biggest smile of them all on my face..

.64 overdrive. It's like a new fangled car they make these days. Low RPM, highway speeds. I too wanted to make last years Tour but my motor wasn't broken in. It is now. Let's go!

I don't think a route map get posted until all the sponsors have gotten on board. In the sponsoring info, Hot Rod appears willing to tweek the drive route slightly for lunch stops etc. from sponsoring establishments.

If my motor is done in time I will be doing the Crown Point to The Dells portion. With a Muncie 4 speed and 3:91 gears I may not be going very fast but I will be going.

Rob, I would change the gearing just for the Tour. You can always change it back.

Yah, with 3:91's and a 4 speed! it will be hard to keep up.. Consider 3:08's, your fuel bill will be a lot less, and you'll be able to run with the pack.

If I could pick up a used set cheap enough I would like to do that. I plan on changing the rear to something stronger so I don't want to spend to much money on this rear end.

I might jump in after Crown Point, what time do they hit the road for Iowa? Will it be on I-80 or Rt 30 we can get a few cars to join in at Harlem Ave.

That would be cool!!
Once again routes haven't been set yet. From the videos I have seen, from past events. It appears they do mostly secondary roads.

Make your plans ASAP. Got an e-mail from my Bettendorf IA hotel that room preferences are difficult due to lots of bookings. Don't wait any longer if you haven't booked.

I'm pretty sure they will be taking Rt 30. To take I-80 would be a big waste of a good drive. It hooks up with old Rt 66 somewhere west of their start point. I imagine that will be a good enough reason. I sure hope they do Rt 30, 80 would be BORING!!!!

Most of the videos I have seen from past years all seem to be on back roads. I agree what's the point if the route is on the freeway. I made my hotel reservations weeks ago. I can't wait.

Got a taste of spring here in CT where the temp got up to 50 today. Not enough to melt all the snow and ice but warm enough to bring the old cars out for some fresh gas and to charge the batteries. Also got the chance to think about what still needs to be done be done for power tour. Can't wait.

Not to sound like an idiot although I shoud know this since I have been a subscriber to hit rod for the past 10 years but what are the stops south to north or north to south. I might plan this with my dad to take his car out with my brother tagging along. Might make the the drive towards the dells but will need to plan a good place to meet up with other co members somewhere.

On the Hot Rod frequently asked questions, I did not see my question. Can I bring in my car for the daily rate of $30 on the last day at Wisconsin Dells? At this time I'm not sure which car will be done and bringing.
