Depending what time you leave, 90 to 294 to 80 east won't be too bad. If you want to avoid the city even more, just take 355 all the way south to 80. Are you going to get to Crown Point early, and drive the whole way to Iowa? If not, you could just take 355 down to 80, and wait somewhere till the Power Tour goes past westbound, and join the group.

Chicago Heights isn't bad, especially during the day. Stay off RT30 and you won't have to worry about it.

Joliet is bad enough. Don't go through the Heights at night and you're all good. You're probably safe in the night as well. If you end up on Laraway Road or Manhattan/Monee Road from Joliet you miss all the garbage. I'm coming from New Lenox which is directly in your path from Joliet. If you mapquest Crown Point from Joliet you will see either the Xway or back roads if you move the cursor. What day are you coming, maybe I can run with you to Crown point. I am taking back roads because I know the way. I don't know the names of the roads however.

My plan is to leave mid morning and head to Crown Point and follow the tour to the Dells. I will be meeting up with Archeyshooter in Davenport. It would be cool to meet up and follow you to. If a better time works for you thats fine, nothing is set in stone yet.

Maybe we could catch them as they come through Joliet which I'm sure they will. Let's see what their route is first. I'm not sure if I want to deal with Crown with 4 to 5000 cars at the fairgrounds. I've been to gun shows there and that was 200 cars. Can you say "Chinese Fire Drill"? Iowa will have a big show too. I would like to wait and see.
Have you planned to come down to Crown and stay the night, because I'm pretty sure they are leaving in the morning. If I'm wrong, someone tell me. That would be a tough drive to get there and leave with them without staying over. Get me?

My plan was to get there early enough to catch the show and spend the night so I could drive out with the group in the morning. I have never been on Power Tour but I have been to a couple of stops as a spectator and it looks like. Lot of fun. I hae also seen the pictures of the traffic jams at some of the towns they go through. That doesn't look like fun. I do have a room reserved in Crown but I can cancel it at any time. It may work out better for me to catch the group on the way to Davenport. If I do that I may swing over to Dubuque and catch up with Archeryshooter. We could always back track some and run with the group that way too. Like you said I will wait until the route is posted before making any solid plans. It will be pretty cool to meet more Oldsmobile friends and spend they days cruising.

Getting closer!
So what essentials do you pack? Besides the tripleA+ gold card.
I'm thinking:
Good LED flashlight
Tire plug kit
test light
very basic wrenches and screwdrivers.
extra fuses
jumper cables
GPS
extra quart of oil
Beer

I'm signed up as a Long Hauler... Texas to the start, Long Haul, back to Texas from Wisconsin. Just under 4,000 miles. New engine, still to be installed. I have faith my power plant will be bullet-proof... '72 Cutlass Supreme. Cool to hear all the stories. I have a 3.42 rear end being built. Will keep the open carrier / 2.73s for Power Tour - Will head back to Norwalk another time for a time slip. Gasoline is an issue! Looking forward to seeing all the Olds beasts. Will chime in as my project nears completion... Keep turning those wrenches, boys...

I'm in the same boat engine wise, suppose to pick it up Friday, get it installed as soon as possible and then to the dyno. If all goes well I'm headed to Crown Point, someone stuck the Norwalk bug in my ear and got me thinking. Who knows where this will end up at. Good luck on your build and hope to see you there.

Right back atcha... Hope all goes well for you. Friday... You've plenty of time! I'm probably looking at about 3 weeks prior to beginning of PT for engine install... Hopefully we can compare notes... Have fun in the mean time.

So I see that Bull Run 2014 is starting from NYC on June 6th heading to Scottsdale AZ. Wouldn't it be cool if Bull Run ended up stopping for the night at one of the Power tour stops. Knoxville stop 1 or Charleston WV stop 2 are the only feasible stops for both events. Anything after that and I'd assume BR would be much farther west.
I guess if BR launches early Saturday, Charlotte would also be a possibility on the evening of 6/6.

More fuel for speculation:
It is BR's 10 year anniversary, It is HRPT's 20 year. What a surprise it would be.

Hotel booked and registered for multiple stops. I'll probably go to Crown Point for the afternoon, then home for the night. Pick up with the group as they travel west to Bettendorf and I'll spend the night there. I am playing it by ear going to WI Dells, if I do I'll probably go for the afternoon and just come back home that evening.

I'm pumped!

Got my confirmation e-mail as well. When checking this e-mail account that I only check on every few days, I also see that I missed out on the Edelbrock drive-in movie event. That invite came in a separate e-mail on Monday. It is sold out at max capacity of 450 cars. Darn!
So check you e-mail frequently as things are starting to heat up.

I have my car back from the engine shop. runs good. Transmission leaks a little. Not enough to be a major concern at the moment. All I know, I will be the easy one to find. I will have the ugliest car there. Man I got to find some cash for a paint job. Still looking forward to the tour though. It will be nice to see all the oldsmobiles and give me something to dream about what mine could look like.

I'm not 100% sure. I think those people are hand picked by the event coordinator to do those tours. They do a different one every year. To Promote the back to the bricks event. They talk about it on the news every year. I have never seen them tell you how or a place to sign up for them. I will definitely be doing the back to the bricks though. That is a blast. The cruise nights are the best. 3 hours to go 7 miles.. I bet last year there was over 10,000 people lined up along Saginaw street.

I probably have to work at that time. I will go look at it though. I think the best one would have been the one they did a couple of years ago. the Lincoln highway all the way to new york city.

Awesome your going thats all that matters we all know what it takes to get them pretty time and money but they are still fun to drive and I for one enjoy looking at all of them. I drove my one car to shows for years with rusty rims and all ,but hey cant beat rock star parking.

Just saw the directions for the daily drives and the tour is coming within 10 miles of my house. I am picking it up from there or I may drive over to the lunch stop instead of going to Crown Point.
