High Output Alternator??

I'm trying to find a high output alternator for my 1972 Cutlass Supreme but I'm having trouble. Does anyone know a decent brand that makes high output alternators for 72 Supremes?

How do you define a "high output" alternator? How many amps is your original and how many amps do you want?

GM is a good brand...

Define what output you need. 78 amp 12SI alternators were factory installed on 307s in the 1980s and bolt onto your motor. If you need more, I buy 105 amp CS130 alternators from full size GMs with the 3800 motor (Bonneville, Eighty Eight, etc) at the wrecking yard for $15. These have the correct mounting bosses to bolt to your existing brackets. Just swap the serpentine pulley for a v-belt pulley. Google "CS130 wiring" for the connections.

I go through a guy who rebuilds and resells high output alternators on Ebay.

He's got minimum overhead and charges very cheap prices and will custom
make it to your size, clock position, and belt style needs. I put in a CS130 140amp
chromed alternator from him for just $140, but I'm using a Taurus electric fan
plus an amp'd stereo system.

I bought a CS130 for an '89 Pontiac Safari. It has the correct v groove pulley and mounts right up.

It may be a silly question, but do you NEED a higher output alternator? Just wondering.

I have a 105 amp alternator for the external regulator style 10 DN if that is what you need. It is a bolt on with no wiring changes needed. I think yours may be the external regulator type.

Is there any reason to have more than 63 AMPS for a stock 1972 CS - even with A/C?
