i have a 70 olds 98...i assume i have a 2.56 open rear gear
i would like to convert to a posi unit, new, if possible
any info?

This car has the Oldsmobile "O" 12 bolt cover which is really a 10 bolt rear end (fake 12 bolt)
It's rare, it's NOT desirable, and the Carriers are only available USED iirc and they're VERY expensive.
~$1,000 for gears & used carrier, it's not worth it IMO unless you're trying to keep it 100% factory for a rare vehicle.

I was quoted over $1000 to go posi with the undesirable "O" faux 12 bolt rear end.
So I sold mine to a member here for $200 and put a Chevy 12 bolt in mine with a 3.73 Eaton Posi.

Actually the full sized cars have a true 12 bolt, 12 bolts holding the ring gear on.
