Got new seat covers from Dixie Monte for a Malibu. I had him order 2 extra yards of the cloth for me so I could cover my upper door panels and rear panels. Got an ACC carpet kit and the lower door panel carpet strips so it would match.

My battery tray was badly pitted after sand blasting. I welded in a new square nut for the hold down bolt. Mine was stripped. I took it to my local spray in bedliner shop and they sprayed it. They did not charge me for it. Should last a few more decades now.

Wiper switch was horrid looking so I removed the lens and polished it Went through my spare parts and found a nice **** and polished it.

I've had a never used donut spare tire and the chassis jack stashed for at least 10 years. They both had a few small scratches from being moved around. I sanded and repainted them. They look fresh and new again. It took me probably an hour to tape off the jack but was worth it. The Salon originally had a bumper jack. I'm painting the bumpers so this jack is perfect. I welded in the jack mounting hardware so it will appear stock. I bought a new jack instructions decal for the later model G body jack to put under the deck lid. I had to reshape the lug wrench tip cause I've been using it for a pry tool in the garage for years. I blasted and repainted it. I even repainted on the green stripe. Don't know what the green stripe means but I put it back.

I welded up unused holes to smooth out the top of the core support. I'll still be running the original fan shroud and clutch fan. I bought a new catalyst decal to put on the shroud but it says 305. I made a cold air set up from sheetmetal, an S-10 plastic air duct, and a new GM flex hose. I drilled holes in the core support by the headlight opening for a bit more air flow. I'll use the factory style screws that use a 7mm socket. I also drilled the header bracket for air flow.

I'm going to paint my bumpers so I can carry my lower stripe color all the way around the car. I started working on the bumper to tuck it and smooth it with no impact strips. The original bumper is 2 pieces under the impact strip. I got this bumper off a mid 80s cutlass 4 door. It had signals in the bumper and I cut pieces from my old bumper to fill them. I had to build a hump for the center of the header so it would look better. Still got to do the other side and grind welds for an hour.

So here's where I'm at today. I've done bodywork/prep and got the car primed. Going to try to paint it Monday. Supposed to be 65 degrees. Gotta spend a few hours 400 wet sanding before Monday.

Spent a couple hours 180 sanding the underside of the deck lid. I had removed the old seam sealer cause it was falling off. Got it re seam sealed and tomorrow it will get final prime. The Caprice aero mirrors were road blasted pretty bad so I used Aircraft paint remover on them and got them clean and bare. I also prepped the plastic tail filler panel that the license plate bracket bolts to. These will be final primed tomorrow too. So far its looking good for paint on Monday but there is a lot of wet sanding to do

The wind is blowing real hard. I had my fenders on saw horses outside in the grass and it blew them over. It did not do anything because the ground is soft. Don't know if I can wet sand the car today. Its cold too. I started 180 sanding the mirror bodys after I Chemical stripped them. The castings are rough from the factory. I spent about an hour on them with fine metal files and then more 180. I rounded all the sharp edges and smoothed them real nice. They both had sunk in spots on the top edge so I have body filler on them.

Still didn't get the car wet sanded. I finished out the underside of trunk lid and got the final prime on it. I built a fixture shaped like a T for my mirrors. I bolted them to the fixture and got them primed. I have a hole drilled in the T handle to hang them on a wire. Worked awesome. I've had a really bad fiasco with the firewall. Before I traded it to my buddy, I had smoothed the center of the firewall. I had a used Hurst Olds emblem epoxied to the firewall and moulded it in. It looked stamped. When I got the car back, the emblem had a chunk broke out of it. I removed it and reworked the area smooth. He had painted the firewall gloss black and did not finish cleaning and smoothing the drivers side of the firewall. He just painted over the factory sealer crap. So, most of the day went into that firewall. I got it looking pretty nice but had to get some high build on it to block it out. I'll post pics after its painted to save my Photobucket storage. Every day I get closer and spending the extra time here and there is going to pay off big. I'm really excited now cause its close to spraying the shiney stuff.

I got most of the car wet sanded today. And to think, I get to do it again on the sand/buff I don't think I'll be able to paint till Thursday but we'll see.

Was working hard on it today when my wife calls me around 1PM. Says there's a guy at her work wanting to buy her XLR. She told him the Kelley Blue book price for retail and he said he'd take it. We were just discussing a couple weeks ago about selling it and getting a Hell Cat Challenger. I took him the title, we got it notorized, and off he went. Simplest car sell I've ever done. I lost a 1/2 day and don't know if I can get it done before noon tomorrow or not. Gonna try though!

Its in the 40s and the wind is terrible again. I cleaned out the garage and used my leaf blower to remove dust and dirt from ceiling, lights, walls, and floor. It was bad. I will hang two rolls of plastic to make a makeshift paint booth. I decided to not paint with the weather like this. I watched a movie and it was killing me to not be working on it. I grabbed my front fender side marker lights. They have faded from years of the sun. I used a gray scotchbrite and scuffed the hell out of them. I used a silver paint pen on the raised edge. I bought some enamel pearly fingernail polish that looks like signal amber. I poured a little urethane auto clear in a cup, mixed in the hardner, and poured in the nail polish to tint it. I put it in my touch up gun and shot on a few coats. They're not as dark as I wanted but at least they're gleaming again. I'll get some pics later. I bought some red pearl nail polish to do the rears too but the rear markers are buried in a box in my shed.DSCN4808_zps4104332b.jpg

Have not updated in awhile. It runs and drives in and out of garage with good brakes. Should be completed in a few weeks

Beautiful, reminds me of my 78 Salon. It was black and gold. Had factory four speed, black interior, AC, PS, the works. Loved the car despite what others said about it being a "Butless Cutlass".
