The bear is back

Found my garbage can 30 yards down my driveway this morning, I know better, I did not shut the garage door last night like a fool. The bear was kinda neat thou, just like last time it pulled the can through a small passage way passed my 55 and didn't spill a drop for 30 yards, then made a hell of a mess. No scat this time to clean up. Lock and load and be ready

He took all the good stuff

And I thought I had it bad with squirrels and deer always after the bird feeders.

Ted are you sure the bear isn't joy riding The Money Pit at night. Showing off to all his bear buddies. Might want to start checking the mileage.🙃

I did check the 55 very well for scratches and dents, just lucky I guess, and there was a 25 lb bag of dog food behind the seats in the Money pit, surprised he didn't get into that. Tedd

Up at Tahoe most houses have their cans in a steel “bear box”. They open with a hex key that hangs off the side of the box for convenience. Works well for keeping garbage in cans from being strewn about.

Several houses around my usual rental have electric fences around the first floor doors & windows to shock bears from trying to get in.

My impression is the bears learn which houses shock and move on quickly to houses without high voltage protection. Then pretty soon every house on the street has an electric fence. Seems like most people arm them when they’re not at home.

OTOH, if you’re locked and loaded in the fantastic northern CA forests, these ideas may be redundant.

Cheers
Chris

A few years ago at my cottage in northern lower Michigan, a black bear awakened from hibernation and was so hungry, it tried to eat my solar lights that I had forgotten to remove over the winter. The lights still work, but it broke all the plastic stakes in the metal tube, and I haven't bothered to try and find replacement stakes. Lots of teeth marks in the metal. All the neighbors bird feeders got destroyed as well.

Chris, I'm a retired gunsmith, I'm always locked and loaded. Firearms to me are like push brooms to a janitor. Nothing special, but always handy if you need one. Although I find push brooms rather dull....Tedd

So I take it that you don't like your new pet bear. All joking aside that has to be even more scary than the coyotes I have around me... scary !

We see the bears from time to time while cycling early in the morning. So far the bears have been running away from us!
