The bear is back, getting serious this time, lock and load

Well it happened again. This time he got into my garage, tipped over the garbage cans, strung garbage from hell to breakfast, upset the dog food barrel and ate about 15 lbs of dog food. Other than that I was lucky he was only 2 feet away from the 55 and one door from being inside the house.

This all happened sometime during the day which very unusual, the visits generally happen late at night. The the dog was home alone and was probably raising hell or hiding in the back bed room. She does have access to the garage through a fairly large dogie door but probably felt intimidated with out Kaiser (my pit) to back her up. This is getting serious now. The bear hit my neighbors house the same day and made a mess of his garbage also. This bear is getting way to friendly. I'll update if anything exciting happens..... Tedd

Do you have conservation officers in your area? Can they help out? We have bears all the time here in the big city area. Usually they capture, tag and relocate them a few hundred miles away.. If they come back, then lethal means are used to take care of the "problem bears"

Tedd, that's scary. I hope you can get the local animal control to take care of that bear before someone is hurt. Keep us posted.

How is he getting into the garage? I would have my 12 gauge with the 00 buckshot ready and my 30/30 ready for him in case he decides to come in the house. He could destroy your 55 and none of us wants to see that.

Tedd,I imagine they are low on food supply with all the wildfires in the state.I have heard
Warnings in the Gatlinburg Tennessee areas after the fire destroyed lots of the vegetation. Call the State of California game and fish commission'and maybe they can capture him and get him out of your immediate area.
You know, I get kinda mean and hard to handle when I'm hungry, but I can usually scrap up
Enough cash to go to Mc Donald's or somewhere, he don't have that option. Good luck ,Larry

The small mast crop is what pushes them down away from their normal environs

While I understand removing and re-locating animals that are problems, unless they are located to a absolute wilderness of thousands of unpopulated square miles the animals just become a problem for someone else. Lack of hunting and trapping is causing this country-wide. Same with re-establishment of elk herds and wolves. One day they will be a problem, comparable to the spread of coyotes.
Ted, just break out the 45/70 lever you have.

At night I shut everything down tight, dog door and all but while I'm out of the area I sometimes leave the garage door up a couple feet so the dog can get out to do her thing, that's how the bear got in this time.

There is a 12 gauge in a umbrella stand by the front door always, loaded and ready for what not.

And I have three 45/70's but none are lever guns Sharps, Ballard and Trapdoor. I do have other large caliber ordnance lever guns though..... Time will tell what will happen the whole neighbor hood is up in arms no pun...Tedd

He doesn't need McD's - he has 40 pounds of dog chow in the garage.
