Replaced Ignition lock, won't turn back to lock

We recently replaced the lock on the ignition and it currently won't turn to lock (to remove the key) or beyond to ACC. Prior to replacing the the lock, the old key was worn and it wouldn't go into the lock position either but the key was worn so it was removable that way.

Any suggestions on where to go from here? I have a feeling we've got to take the steering column apart again.

backdrive / Auto trans shifter linkage is not turning your column collar all the way CCW when in park or your manual trans shutoff position [R?].

My '85 does this.

Verify by reaching out and manually moving your steering column collar more CCW and see if that helps. If so, adjust the obvious linkage near the trans to suit.

Assuming you don't have a column shift automatic.

Actually, even if you do have a column shift AT. There's slop between the detent plate in the column and the trans. The problem can either be caused by a misadjusted backdrive linkage or simple wear in the linkage and bushings.

Thanks guys - finally got around to trying this out today and that did the trick. I'm assuming this was the same problem we had before replacing the ignition as well. Beforehand the old key was worn enough that it would pull out though.
