Ignition Switch Won't Turn to Start 1975 Hurst/Olds
I found a 1975 Hurst/Olds that I'm interested in buying. It's been stored outside for several years. I went to start it this week and the key won't turn all the way to the "start" position. It goes backwards to the auxiliary position and forward part way, but gets jammed up. I pulled the old ignition switch out and it turns ok out of the column. I also put a new ignition switch/key into the column and it does the same thing. I don't want to pass on the car and I REALLY don't want to buy it and change a steering column. It's a 1975 Hurst/Olds W-25 with tilt column and Hurst Dual-Gate shifter on the floor. I did check that the shifter was all the way in "park" and the column cover was turned all the way. I also tried the tilt in several positions, but nothing helped. It seems that something is jammed up beyond the ignition switch. Any ideas?
Also, if I need a new part, can I find the same part in any column-shifted '73-'77 Cutlass?

Only key cylinders are the same, tilt column parts unique for tilt columns, bearings and switches etc are different. double check to make sure the pushrod is fully engaging column switch and that switch is sliding freely to 'on' position, ill bet it is binding and not fully positioning to the 'start' position.... that the console shift linkage has gotten dry, or jammed. Wild About Cars has adjustment procedures in section 7 sheet 1 for this problem on 75 cars. Good luck!

In the Olds' section...click-Factory Publications...Click-Assembly Manuals...Click-1975...Click-1975 Olds A-body Assembly Manual...scroll down to section 7 and double click to download. Open that up after D/L completes, and read this section, many pages have information that you may find useful. Best of Luck.
