The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Morning All!
It's cloudy and gray as usual, around 27 degrees. Supposed to get snow coming in around 4 pm today and through tomorrow. Cold teens coming at us later in the week and single digits at night. Burrrr.......
We had the propane tank filled last week. It was down to 20%, so they came and put in 351 gallons..... @ $2.79/gal! Oh I hate to see that bill coming this week!
They had filled it before right before Christmas, so this will be the 2nd time so far this winter. I keep it at 70 degrees in here, but when it's so cold out, the furnace kicks on about every 20 minutes. Hopefully we won't have to get it filled again before April.
At least my first car payment isn't due until March 20th, so I have a little time.
I like that car you bought Darrell! It looks very nice!
Those prices in Australia and Thailand are just crazy!
Rdrokit.... make sure you take lots of pics at the car show and post em here! I can't wait for car show season. Cars... lawn chair.... SUN AND HOT....... This has been a looooonnnngggg winter!
Have a good day all!

Sandy,
Here's some pixs to hold you over till the next show. These were shot Dec 18th at a car show in the National Park about an hours drive from my house. It was a combination of the Thailand Classic Car Club (non American iron) and the Thai American Car Club (all American iron). Enjoy.

Good morning guys & gal
How's everyone this morning, great I hope. Cool and wet here, finally off the 12 hour a day 7 days a week gig. Gotta travel a little this next week first to Denver then to Sacramento to look at a couple of future projects. I will have my laptop so I'll check in from time to time.
Sure hope the weather settles down here in the states and in Aussi land. Sure could use some calm times.
I expect everyone is getting set for the super bowl.
Our club meeting is today at 1:00 pm. It will be a very short meeting as the game starts around 3:15 Pacific Standard Time.
Talk to ya'll latter

Pat,
The house electic problem was a new one on me.I've got about 10 cans [high hats] in a vaulted ceiling in the kithen on 2 switches. I turned both of them on Friday and nada. removed the covers and had power top and bottom with them on and off. Got me a 12 foot ladder and had power at the fixture but when ya put in a new bulb.... Nada.
So changed out the switches and then tested the continuity of the old ones and they were still good.
Scratched my head for a few hours and then called my bud the electrician.
He said, That the neutral had been cut by a critter or a stable or something and to start folllowing the hot wire and checking it from the box in the basement [Much eaiser said than done cause it runs atop a load bearing wall.] If it's still good,When I get to where it heads up through the wall if it's still good cut it, put in a junction box, abandon the wire in the wall and run a new wire.
Make sense?
Then I go out to the garage and the drop top ain't got no juice. So, I said ^%^(*& it and got me sum Vodka and built a fire.
When the planets aren't lined up correctly, there's no sense it fighting it.

Poor Jamesbo.... not a very productive day, huh?? Hate days like that.
I went up and took Linda shopping. She likes my tin can lol!
Got home after 7 and am sitting here watching the Super Bowl with Larry. I'll tell ya, I didn't care for the Black Eyed Peas singing at half time. Not my kind of music at all! But thats just me.
Thanks for the car show pics, Rdrokit! A lot of American cars over there huh? A few nice Olds' - always good to see!

Flash flooding and evacuations south of Melbourne in Victoria and over in Perth, Western Australia, bushfires have destroyed 12 homes today. The big post-cyclone & flood clean-up continues in Queensland. Our State Govt election campaigns got under way with the current govt apologising for doing nothing for years.....now there's an unusual campaign platform.
Nothing happened in Tasmania and South Australia and nothing ever does in the Northern Territory and Canberra. You're now up to date with the Aussie news.

Actually got up to 45 here today so I could wash my car and enjoy being outside for a while.
[QUOTE]Col is right about car prices over here Darrell, we would be lucky to get the rolling chassis for 14k Those prices in Thailand are just crazy B[/QUOTE
Ausraven, I cannot even comprehend that!

However its to bad that everyone thinks that the tax payers of Toronto, had anything to say about that decision. Just like anywhere else the government doesn't ask what we want, they just do it.Sandy, Good luck with your purchase. It's not likely your paying for them free oil changes up front, This is a way to insure your return where you bought it, so they can up sell you on something else when you go for the oil change.
Jamesbo, Hows your dog doing today??
Sounds odd that you'd just suddenly lose a neutral connection. I'm assuming the two banks of lights are operated through a gang switch in which case the neutral's obviously gone between the switch and the box in the basement or else at least one bank should still be working. Are you running walk-through switches, ie you can turn them on/off from a switch at either end of the room?
I hope you find it and it's an easy fix.
Good car show pics Rdrokit.
With the cost of imported cars being so high in Thailand, I thought a car show might have looked more like this

I know,.....I'm being a "plick" (as Sandy calls me) again. But hey, I've been copping the kangaroo jokes for over a year now. And this one could be "out cruising with the car club"

I'm outa here before Rdrokit starts with the Skippy jokes.
Have a good one guys.
Col,
Some good elephant pixs.
There are quite alot of American cars over but they are mostly old models as they were brought over during the Vietnam era duty free by all the GIs stationed here (1965-1975). When a GI left he sold his car to another GI and when the last GIs left Thailand most of the cars were sold to Thais as they weren't classics yet and not worth much.
If you wanted to import a classic now it would cost an arm & leg to do it as the Thai Customs Dept. puts the value on the car and they are no dummies. We get Barrett Jackson over here.
They do give a discount for older cars. On a 8 year or older car they get the maximum discount of 70% but that still means 328% of the customs value less 70%. I wanted to bring my 1961 Pontiac Catalina over here but they put a value of $35,000. So that's 328% of 35,000 less 70%. So they wanted $34,000 in customs tax to bring my car over here. No way, i sold it for $32,000 and bought my Cutlass for $8,600. Stuck a new engine in it, a little rechoming and now I have a total of $11,500 in the car.
Well the Super Bowl was good. Went down to the last possession. Yea Packers!! Had to go to the local Thai Immigration office after the game to renew my retirement visa which I have to do once a year. Had to show proof of income (my pensions) and some forms which I downloaded off the internet. I have to show proof of income as one of the requirements for a retirement visa is you must have an income of at least 65,000 baht/month ($2,167US) or at least 800,000 baht in a Thai bank for at least 3 months. I go the monthly route as I keep most of my money in the States and just use my ATM card to draw money. I have a really good bank in the States that charges only one dollar transaction fee.
Starting to warm up here, hit 33C (91F) just in time for the start of boot camp tomorrow.
Will let you all know how it goes.

Morning All,
Snowing again !!!! Got another inch or so since last night.......Great Super Bowl.....
Rdrokit, sounds like a bit of unfair tariffs on U.S. cars. Is it the same way on other products?
Col, we call those switches 3-way or 4-way, a regular switch being called a 2-way.
Jamesbo, start checking at the outlet closest to the breaker box & work your way outward. Something like this is usually a bad switch but could be an outlet plug, or wires connected by wire-nuts inside the box and they came a little loose, unusual a neutral would just come loose or a critter take a nibble.
Hope everyone else is doing good and the snow has stopped for you.

Rdrokit..... those are some hellacious prices for cars! $34000 for taxes?? Man, that's just awful!! Sounds like you got a deal on your car, and it's a beauty! We have a lot of upset Steeler fans today around our area. Brian here, is one of them. He isn't saying too much today about the game, lol!
It was a close one for sure. I thought the Steelers would come back.....
Colonel, you just make me laugh, lol!

Elephants......
You are a plick, lol!! But we wouldn't have you any other way!
Jamesbo..... you working on your wiring? Hope you can get it figured out. Maybe Citcapp can come help ya. How's Ralph doing??
It's gray but was 34 degrees this morning with a little drizzly crap. Supposed to snow as the day progresses and temps to fall. Going to be in the teens tonight and into late week. Burrrrrrr...... I sure hate to move the Intrigue out of the garage and make her sit out in the drive and get all cold and crappy, but my Tin Can has to go in the garage. I've done my share of scraping and shoveling off cars through the years. Nicole's turn, lol!
The guys here are going to NY on Friday for a sales meeting. I'll be here all by myself. Guess I'll take a lot of messages that day, lol! I can't really help anyone with anything sales related. Kinda looking forward to being alone. I can lock myself in and turn up my radio some. I'm going to enjoy it!

pretty nice here today , the temp is 0 C or 32 F . No snow today so all is good. After that last big storm I spent to much time in the tractor I guess cause my neck has not stopped hurting since. And I mean 24/7. i don't know what's going on with it and still have heard nothing from my specialist secretary despite leaving messages. I will continue calling and hope to actually get a live human to talk to , not just an answering machine message.
My lower back is pretty crappy to from shoveling to much snow I guess. I am getting to hate just waiting around.

Well started our boot camp this am. Temp was 20.6C (69F) and 6 guys showed up. 5 Americans and a Swiss guy. The youngest was 57 and the oldest 72. Did some stretching exercises, walked a 1/2 mile and then did some jumping jacks.
I think a couple of guys will be hard to motivate past a slow walk.
Would like to get them up to a mile brisk walk in a month and a few more calisthenics. It's tough staying active once you retire but will keep trying.
Yes the import tax on cars here is excessive to say the least. The tax is not just on American cars but all imports. Wanted to buy the wife a small car. She liked a Mini Cooper we saw so I looked for used prices on a Mini. Found this 2006 model and they wanted 1,850,000 baht or about $61,000 US so you see it's not just American iron. To put things in perspective I paid 1,752,000 baht for my 3 bedroom, 2 bath house when it was new about 3 years ago. Go figure.

$61,000 for a Mini?...the seller must be Bahtty!
No Tai Che but alot of Muay Thai. Get your #ss kicked in 10 seconds.

I don't think the seller is bahtty asking 61,000. You have to remember the 328% import tax. Here's a 2010 Mini for $83,000 US. I haven't been in the States for awhile so I don't know what a new Mini goes for but if I figure 83,000 is 328% plus a dealer mark up I would say a new Mini is going for around $22 to 25,000. Am I close???B

Here is a 2006 Mini for sale locally. But you could probably talk him down. Man, those Thai taxes are crazy
This is in Canadian dollars (CAD) almost par with USD. $1 CAD will buy $1.01 USD.http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ258974390

Yes our import taxes are crazy but it helps the Thai economy because it makes car companies open assembly plants here and boost the Thai economy by providing jobs for Thais. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford and Chevy have assembly plants here. Ford only makes trucks (big in Thailand) and Fiestas, Chevy only Trucks and Cruze. Largest engine you can get is 3 liters but most are turbocharged. Just think if the US had the same import taxes. The US car companies would be in much better shape.
Mawn'in all
Not to switch the subject
But
When you walk down into the basement of my house,If you turn right there is a bathroom door. If you turn left you walk around a "U" shaped passage that takes you behind the stair well to the back side of the bathroom wall where the electrical panel is. [Where is Blue when I need him?]
Here in lies the problemo. The wires from the panel go over the top ot the bathroom ceiling and sum critters been liv'in up there and been chew'in on my wires.
Pat,
I think I'm gonna cut the wires that are damanged, put sum junctions boxes in, and pull new wire back to the panel.
Get de general idea? Sound like a plan to you.
Why in the wide wide world of sports does the code require conduit in every retail store [that no one sleeps in] and not in residentail. If I ever build another house, I'd put conduit in and pull the wireing like a store/ office building.
Then I gonna put sum poison on top of the bathroom ceiling.
Hope it werks. How these *^&^%%$* get in is beyond me.

Morning All!
Sun was out awhile - it was pretty, but clouds are moving in some. It's around 17 degrees. Single digits or below coming tonight.
Quiet in here today.
So I got full coverage with State Farm on the Rav for $184.00 / 6 months! I think that's pretty good. It is way cheaper than it would have been with Cincinnati Ins. who we had. I'm glad I took the time to shop around - State Farm is saving us some money. Now they have our house, auto, life on Nicole and life on Larry's granddaughter. We have like this 1.5 million umbrella coverage.
I also got 3.74% financing on the Rav which I thought was good. They said my credit score was around 800 which I guess is good! I love that little tin can, lol!
Jamesbo..... at least you found out where the problem is, so that's good. I hope you get it fixed correctly without too much aggrivation! How are your friend and Ralph doing? Hope both are feeling better.
My cat told me this morning that he's tired of being friggin cold! I put another old sweatshirt in his house last night to help keep him warm. He has old towels and carpet pieces in his house, which is a Rubbermaid container with a lid, that we cut an opening in front for a doorway. It's in the breezeway, so he's out of the outside elements. He stays pretty warm in there! I'm tired of being friggin cold too, lol!
Well have a good day all! Good luck with your project Jamesbo! I don't know where Blue is...... I really miss him.

Why California is broke
THE COYOTE
California:
The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature
trail.
A coyote jumps out and attacks the Governor's dog, then bites the
Governor.
1. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie
"Bambi" and then realizes he should stop because the coyote is only
doing what is natural.
2. He calls animal control . Animal Control captures the coyote
and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating
it.
3. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and
bills the State $200 testing it for diseases.
4. The Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked
for diseases from the coyote and on getting his bite wound bandaged.
5. The running trail gets shut down for 6 months while Fish & Game
conducts a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is now free of
dangerous animals.
6. The Governor spends $50,000 in state funds implementing a
"coyote awareness program" for residents of the area.
7. The State Legislature spends $2 million to study how to better
treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease throughout the
world.
8. The Governor's security agent is fired for not stopping the
attack. The State spends $150,000 to hire and train a new agent with
additional special training re: the nature of coyotes.
9. PETA protests the coyote's relocation and files a $5 million suit
against the State.
TEXAS:
The Governor of Texas is jogging with his dog along a nature
trail. A Coyote jumps out and attacks his dog.
1. The Governor shoots the coyote with his State-issued pistol, checks to insure his dog is all right, and keeps jogging. The Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point
cartridge.
2. The Buzzards eat the dead coyote.
And that, my friends, is why California is broke and Texas is not.

It's a cry'in shame he don't like chicken livers fer lunch.
He coulda been my new best friend. I guess we'll have to split a Krystal or sum'in.

Well we had day 2 of boot camp. Still had the same 6 as day one so that was a plus.
I pushed them to power walk the last 220 yds of our half mile walk. The only guy to keep up with me was the 72 year old guy. I have 2 I would definitely classify as the sick, lame and lazy.
Going to push them to walk a mile tomorrow, should be fun.
Went grocery shopping after boot camp and had lunch at KFC. Had a chicken patty sandwich, fries and Pepsi. Same menu as the States except the counter girl spoke Thai.
Decided to call out the air con guys to clean and check out the air con unit as the high today is supposed to be 35C (95F).
2 guys came out in their truck and worked about 2 hours cleaning the inside and outside units. Check head pressure and the total charge was 500baht ($15US). Even though they are only needed every 6 months at that price I feel like calling them every month.

Have a great day,

Evening all. Just back from a 2 day offsite sales conference which is always a hoot
For some strange reason, over the 8 years since I've been with this company, nearly every motivational guest speaker has had bits missing, ie arms or legs. Either that or there's nothing missing but they're in a wheelchair. Why is that?
Are amputees, quads & paraplegics the only motivated people out there who can speak in public? Interesting.
Anyway this guy was good. He was the Aussie navy diver who got attacked by a bull shark in Sydney Harbour while training a couple of years ago. Lost his right arm & leg. One tough guy let me tell you. He's back with the Navy doing the same thing...well training new guys any way, but he's still diving and he's super fit. He showed photos of the injuries and the operation. Not nice.
Paul deGelder is his name and I hope this clip motivates you too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcENVN71sW8
Ken:...I loved the Tai Chi joke BTW.
Received my first magazine from the Oldsmobile Club of America which I joined. A good read. Next month has an article on my favourite, a '67 triple black 442 convertible which I'm looking forward to.
Rdrokit: I'm enjoying learning bits & pieces about Thailand so thanks for sharing. You learn a lot in the Good Morning Thread (nee Post).
The 8 Thai Elephants that came down under in 2006 are a real hit and so far we've successfully bred 3 babies which always make front page news.
I read where you can buy a trained baby elephant for 500,000 baht (10 times more than in 1993). So that's less than $20,000 .... 4 times less than a mini cooper
.
Critters in my roof as we speak too Jamesbo, right above our bed. Just bush rats which were dropping onto the awning from a tree over the upstairs verandah then squeezing in under the corrugated iron roof. I lopped back the tree so they couldn't reach the roof.....but unfortunately they were still in the roof space so now the can't get away
I just put a trap and 2 baits up there so there should be some action in the bedroom this evening
.....in the ceiling anyway. No lights flickering so the wires ain't gnawed through just yet. Wife was here on her own last night...just her and the rats. She said it sounded like they were partying up there and she didn't get much sleep.Tonight the party ends

Morning All!
Friggin cold here today - it was 7 degrees when I left for work. Getting down in the minus range tonight..... God I'm tired of it already!! Not going to get much warmer until Thursday, and some 30's next week. Heat wave, lol!!
Colonel.... I missed you! Glad you're back!
"Just bush rats"???? God!!! My nephew has a critter living in his attic too. You can hear it scurrying around up there when the house is quiet. My sister Jean gets all freaked out! She had to move in with him back in the fall because she lost her house. I hope it doesn't chomp his wiring!
When I lived in West Virginia many moons ago, there was the potbellied wood stove in the middle of the living room. One night we saw sparks come down from the ceiling where the pipe went up through. Mom climbed up through the attic opening, and some squirrels or something had made a nest around the stove pipe up there, because it was warm, and it had caught fire! Glad we were up to see those sparks come falling down. Guess ya never know what's lurking above......
Clay is off today so it's really quiet in here.
Our Oklahoma shop is on a "whoever can make it in basis" today, but we just got another email from them and they're not going to be there long. They said their roads that were just plowed are full of snow again and they're telling people to stay off the roads if possible. They're supposed to get 6 - 18" in the storm this time. They emailed us some pics from last week. Pretty bad! Guess there's supposed to be more crap down south again too, Gawja, Dallas..... batton down the hatches, y'all!
Well have a good day and stay safe and warm if possible!

If you pour cold cream into a hot cup of tea it is instantly scalded or burned by being surrounded by hot tea. Pouring the tea into cream causes splashing and the cream is heated up a millisecond more slowly and causes less scalding, yeilding a cleaner cream flavour. I can't tell the difference, but then again I don't like tea.Adam
Jamesbo.... Hibernating sounds really good doesn't it? Amazing, isn't it, what we learn on here, lol!
I'm not a big tea drinker either. I like the Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger and Tangerine Orange Zinger and a few other ones. If it has a strong tea taste, I can't drink it. I don't usually use cream or sugar in it. I like the Lipton Lemon flavored iced tea from the mix. I can make it strong or as weak as I want. It has a good lemon flavor.
God it's boring in here today. I'm munching on Hershey Kisses cause I'm bored. Better than standing outside to smoke in the cold though!

Had a furnace at a rental a few weeks that would not stay running. It would light and run a minute then shut off. Usually a dirty flame sensor causes that, so cleaned it off but still would not run. I worked on it for awhile checking everything I could think of. I finally decided to check to see if something was blocking the flue reducing air pressure. Pulled the flue pipe, a squirrel came running out into the basement. Poor thing had been getting a hot foot every 15 minutes as the furnace would reset and relight itself. Got him up the stairs & out the back door ok.
About 10*F here at noon, wind @ 25mph....BRRRR...
Speaking of tea...when I was in India I picked up some tea to bring home. Karen likes tea so I thought I'd buy authentic Indian so she could impress her friends when they came over. The box had a picture of the Taj Mahal and everything.
I got home gave her the tea and she said, "Oh, OK thanks."
Did I say that this was authentic Indian tea? She asked me to put it in the cupboad. I opened the door and said "Hey where did this come from:?
It was the exact same box with Indian tea bags inside and the Taj Mahal on the outside. "I got it at the store."
Friggin' grocery store..
I fly 25,000 miles round trip to buy tea that I could have walked 5 minutes to get.

Col,
I think it's interesting to learn what happens in other counties as we usually only see what is going on around us in our "world". So you know a few Thai words, "nee" is Thai for day.
The Good Morning Post would be Post dee (good)dorn chow (morning) as the adjectives go after the noun in Thai. I met a guy the other day who had a small elephant, probably 2 or 3 years old. He goes around trying to sell you some sugar cane for 20 baht so you can feed it back to the elephant. i asked him how much he paid for the little guy and he said 900,000 baht. Probably twice as much as he really paid but still not cheap.
Sandy,
Sorry I can't ship you some of the heat from over here. High yesterday was 35.2C (95F) but humidity was only 18%. Ran the air con all day after the repairmen left. Shut it down about 10pm and just slept with a fan. Cool front supposed to go through this weekend and temps down to 28C next week.
Jamesbo,
It could be worse, if you had critters in you house over here it could be a snake and most are poisonous. I live in a developed area so don't see many but have friends that live in the boonies and they have cobras in their yard about once a month. The dogs usually kill them. You need at least 2 dogs and they work in tandem. One distracts the snake while the other kills it. Must be inbreed in the dogs over here as you don't have to train them and only a few get bit. We do have little lizards in the house that eat insects, they are called jin jocks and get no bigger than a few inches. My neighbor turned on his ac unit and it quit. When the tech came out to fix it he found a lizard had shorted out the contol unit and electrocuted itself.
Well that's about it from, here off to make some lunch.

So things are no better here , so not a good morning for me. been 3 days and the back is getting real bad. Standing up or sitting down is a real pain and taking that first step with my right foot hurts like a son of a gun , and I have to watch it cause I always feel like my leg could collapse. tuesday overnight we had another 8" of snow and it turned real cold so I had to drag my butt into the tractor to plow snow. Funny thing is I got 4 people now I did not plow snow for before but I am close and cheap so I have been doing a lot of plowing this year. When I finally got to mom's house I had to try and push the snow banks down over the hill on the side of the lawn to make room for more snow and so I had a place to put the fresh stuff. Right at the very end I pushed it a little to far and the front end, which was riding up on hard pack , broke though and down putting the nose down and buried. Well normally I could use the bucket to push the front end up and backward to help unstick myself , but not this time. hard packed snow all up under and I could not lift her up cause of the steep ditch and snow. I ended up having to shovel the snow out from under the tractor. This is when you want a smaller one , ah well an hour later I had her out. Finished my plowing and got home , climbed out of the tractor and promptly fell to the ground. managed to get to my feet and limped into the house all bent over.
Other than that things are just ducky , and we have been having coyotes coming out of the woods looking for a free meal , plus a bobcat the caught in town a couple days ago. Seems the snow is hard on the critters. Moncton, where Greenslade is ,has been getting it real bad , I am ready for summer , to heck with spring , just jump into summer til like December.

Temps going up and down here. 4C today (37F). The thaw is on again. A lot of snow is gone and the roads are clear. Neighbours are taking the garbage to the curb without bothering to put on a coat. Saw a coyote running down our street.
We're ready fo summer too. Take care Wolfie, don't kill yourself.

Morning All!
Colder than a witches tit in a brass bra here this morning, lol! It was -4 when I came in to work. Sun is out but for looks only. Going up to around 16 today, then supposed to warm up to the 20's tomorrow. I have really had my fill of winter!!!!
The guys will be in New York tomorrow, so I'll be in here by myself. Think I'll sit out at Clay's desk where there are windows, and enjoy being able to look outside all day. Brian and I are stuck in this middle room with no windows.
I took a couple pics this morning on my way in of like these rainbow colors coming up out of the ground into the sky - phone camera didn't really do them justice, but they were so pretty! I don't know exactly what it was, but it was pretty. Must have been something to do with the sun's rays and the cold air. I liked it though. I'll see if I can post them.
Wolfie..... you best be taking it easy! You don't want to end up in worse shape than you're already in!! Pretty soon you'll be plowing the fields. I'm with you - ready for summer!!!
Have a good day all!

Mawn'in all
Without go'in into alot of detail, I had a wonderful mawn'in dis mawn'in

Cause................Today's my anniversary.
