I suppose I could drop the axle to the floor and work on those UCA differential mount bushings from there - unhook the brake lines & parking brake. But alas! Last night I spent some time looking at various bushing tools on-line. And, what to my heart's delight did I find? A frick'n frack'n Rear Axle Bushing Installation & Removal Tool specifically for 1964-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body vehicles! Now, I could probably have made this thing with limited effort, but by the time I determined the exact measurements of the sleeves, located some hollow tubular metal, cut the pieces to size, etc. - I decided I don't really want to do that. And, if someone has already done all the work and has one for sale at a nominal price which is guaranteed to work, they're entitled to compensation for their efforts in making my life tolerable (to a degree - LOL). So, w/o further ado, check out the new tool for my man-cave. I just bought the tool - not the bushings, since I already have new UMI Performance bushings on order to replace the old bushings.

Mike - Do you work in a building which is located on Hartsfield-Jackson? Do you work for Delta airlines? Do you service wheels only for Delta or do you service wheels for all airlines? Do the wheels you service get installed on aircraft while they are located at Hartsfield-Jackson or do you also ship those wheels out to other facilities? And, when you say "wheels" are you truly talking about only the wheels or are you also referring to the tires on those wheels?
Norm I do indeed work for Delta Air Lines. Soon to be 26 years. The shop I work in is in the TOC 3 building at Hartsfield airport. Most of the wheels we work on are Delta mainline but we also do wheels for Go-Jet and Endeavor, which are Delta Connection carriers. We own Endeavor and are about to cut Go-Jet loose. No idea if we'll continue to do their wheels. We also do wheels for the government, they use some of our 767 wheels for the KC46 tankers.
There's three wheel shops in the system, ours, Salt Lake City, and Cincinnati. Four if you count one in Japan but I think they are limited in what they do. Most of the wheels come to us but a large number go to the other two shops. We have the most people. When the wheels are finished and ready for service they are used here and also shipped all over the system.
Finally, a "wheel" is a Main Wheel Assembly or a Nose Wheel Assembly. I was told many years ago that if I wrote in the logbook, changed tire, that the FAA would think I dismounted it from the rim and just put on a new tire, which is ridiculous, but we do write it as changed main/nose wheel assembly. It is the two piece rim with the tire installed. Like truck tires, the inboard half is put in a jig, the tire put on the rim, and the outboard half is set on top, then a robotic arm tightens the tie bolts to a specific torque, and also measures run-on torque.
I actually don't do any of the work to the wheels. I fly a desk. There are 9 stations between tear down and build up, and when it gets to me, I give it one last look and sign it off as serviceable. I'm a secretary basically, doing data entry. The reason a mechanic does this job with his exorbitant pay is because the assembly is now backed by his license as being good, and if there's a problem he's responsible for it.
As far as the new tires for the dogmobile, I called and made an appointment for tomorrow after work. I'm hoping we get out a little earlier than usual so I'll have some extra time to go over there. We'll see.
Mike nice thorough answer - sounds like a good place to work. Beats the hell out of working for United @ O'Hare in the middle of winter. While I was in the USAF in California (1970's) I worked @ Norton Air Force base (I think I may have mentioned this here previously). Norton was home to the military (Lockheed) C-141 Starlifter aircraft (a big F'ing beast) and also performed major maintenance on the (Lockheed) C-5A Galaxy (an even bigger F'ing beast). I did not work on either the C-141 or the C-5A, but I was actively involved in most of the operations within all of the hangars. I knew several folks who worked in the "tire shop" and I got to tour the tire shop on a couple of occasions - pretty cool stuff.

Just got back from getting my next new tires. Date codes are good. No one said anything and I was out in an hour.
Chili day was a success. One of the leads who's a stand up guy brought in beef stew so I had that. It was pretty good. We finished up before one and stayed until after two. Don't understand that one. But hey we're over the hump already.

Touche'. Went to the pain clinic on Weds, as the last set of shots really didn't work. So, I got another round of them. Before, when I got the shots, I took a vacation day to ice the area down, and relax a little. Well, this time I decided that I didn't need to do that and went to work...big mistake. very uncomfortable at work, and left after two hours, something that I do not like to do. Put an ice pack on my lower back for a couple hours and took 600mg of Ibuprofen to reduce the swelling.
For reasons I have never been able to understand , This week I'm booked with families coming. If I sit around with my feet propped up on my desk, the phone never rings, When I wanta go somewhere or run an errand, the phone rings

Felt rusty all the way around. Best performers were the driver & three wood. Fairway irons fair. Putting tore me a new one. We've had ugly weather here for ~1 week so I haven't played much.

I think I'll attend to a little landscaping this morning & then begin pulling out the coil springs on the front-end. The coil spring compressor arrived yesterday & I'm pretty sure it's the same type I used when I pulled the springs off my '72 back in '77. Hopefully I'll get the LCA's off today. I'm in absolutely no rush to get this done. All the new suspension parts should begin arriving today. The weather looks rather nice today.
Busy few months here. On Thanksgiving Day, made a big move from Central Ohio to Central Florida and am already loving the weather. Tell you what, with sketchy brakes, loading a car on a trailer is a little scary. Luckily, no issues along the trip and arrived safe and sound! Getting her strapped in... All loaded up... Ready to go! Arrived safe & sound (look at that blue sky!)

Good day at work. My wall man was the guy who does one wheel an hour then disappears. Well today he cranked out 34 wheels and did a great job. I was pleased.
Was reading about Sesame Street on Wikipedia today. When your <5 you have no idea what a huge amount of work goes into a show like that. It's been on 50 years. I still need to read about Mr. Hooper.
Okay, gonna go out and Tiger and I are going to look at some fencing to put up around the lake. The water is going to be down quite a bit most of the winter, and I don't want Tiger to decide to jump down and take a hike. This isn't going to please him, it will cut off about half the yard. Maybe we can make some adjustments over the winter.

Went to see movie yesterday "Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood". Yep. had to see it- you know... Anyway it was really good in a strange sort of way. I hadn't heard anything about it or saw any trailers so I was really surprised what it actually was like. It's a movie you see and find yourself thinking about afterwards. I actually think Fred Rogers was a sort of hero in a way. Wow, wife and I have seen more movies at the big screen in the last month than in the last 2 years! Midway, Ford v. Ferrari, and Mr. Rogers- loved 'em all .
Finished up work extra early. We had barbeque catered in by Michelin. We also finished our work before lunch so we were done afterwards. Can't beat that. And it's nice, so I can finish my fence.
Jamesbo I love that clip with Mr. Rogers. I think if he was watching the time for 10 minutes they would have held for him. I watched MRN when I was little but I think I've learned far more from him as an adult than I did as a child.
The fence yesterday went quite well. I only need about 40 more feet of it, and I didn't have to bisect the yard too much. I'll have plenty of room to get down to work on the wall, too. The fence is flimsy but as long as the squirrels don't congregate on the other side of it and taunt the dog it should stay up. I'm sure it will be in a constant state of improvement.

Awful house was okay this morning, not too busy, and I sat and talked with Neal. Now I think I'll go to the junkyard. Havne't been there since summer.
Sometimes when I stop typing for a few seconds, the cursor goes away and I have to press something before it comes back. Then it makes a sound like when Samantha on Bewitched casts a spell. I've since figured out that's some app or program that is starting to run itself without my permission.

I told Tiger last night when we went to bed that we could sleep in this morning. Apparently sleeping in to Tiger is 7am. I don't know how he knows it, but right at 7 he jumps up and runs to the back windows and barks like crazy. It was his cat bark. Sure enough, there was a cat trying to cross where he didn't belong. Tiger took care of that. One of these days he'll catch him.

Okay got my fence finished. It looks a little rudimentary but it will do.
Went to the junkyard. Not much there to get excited about. I did see a Pontiac something that had sealed beam headlights. The two brights looked brand new, and they were factory GUIDE bulbs. I use those kind of bulbs and like to have the factory ones, they look the best, so out they came. At the check out they wanted over 10 bucks apiece for them. I said I'll pass. I don't think they cost that in the store.
Got the two rear most brake lines off the Chev, and now I'm going to get new line. These lines probably would have been okay, since they didn't have any compression fittings in them like the rest of the system, but if everything else is going to be new, these lines should, too. And I'm gonna look at headlights.
Biscuits & gravy for breakfast - James' looked too damn tempting & whetted my appetite.
Nearly have the rear suspension completed. Installed new rear LH-side UCA differential bushing, installed new rear UCA & boxed LCA, installed new rear coil springs both sides, re-attached both shock absorbers & installed new solid one inch sway bar. All hardware is either finger-tight or snugged up. Tomorrow I'll torque everything @ ride height. Then, I'll move on to R&R of the front suspension
