I was In the forklift business in the '69-'71 time frame. Very specialized engine cradles, not to mention high lift forklifts to reach the L1011 and DC-10 engines. No idea how many techs were involved for engine changes.

Hi everyone.

Slept good today until mid afternoon when my girl decided she could hear thunder and started her up on the bed and back down again repeatedly routine. Finally I had enough and got up and sure enough, the sky was getting dark and now it's been raining for over an hour. It's not fair to be cross with them when they are afraid, but geez can't they take a hint from me, if I'm not upset then why should they be?

Allan there's usually 4-5 people working on an engine change. CutlassDad is right each type of engine has its own special cradle, but no we don't use a forklift. We either "bootstrap" it where the chain falls are attached to the pylon and we lift that way, or we use a crane and a sling, which is a metal triangle with chains coming off it. The American Airlines DC10 crash in Chicago was a result of changing an engine with a forklift. Other 10s that were inspected after that were found to have the same damage, al a the forklift put strain on the structure where it shouldn't and wasn't visible. Anyway, these days we get an engine changed in about 12 hours.

So it's Friday. I'm guessing I'll have a Monday lead and if Allan has now jinxed me, an engine change. Hope the rain stops by the time I get to work. Have a good evening everyone and I hope your week starts out good.

It was a great day for a car show, 72° and sunny, not too warm, and a decent breeze. Went to the Gilmore for their fall Musclecar show, not a bad turnout, probably a couple hundred showed up, plus took a look at the Lincoln Museum, pretty nice. I should cut the grass and wash the car, but I'm about spent.

I'm getting the car washed for free right now courtesy of Elsie. Coming down hard enough to make it look foggy out.

Gladja' came thru good, Sandy! Teepo's prolly keepin' the dome lite on fer ya'....

No big news from this camp, 'cept the Saints really laid an egg in the Dirty Birds' nest. Shameful... made the Birds look like Super Bowl Champs. My dearly departed Mom's favorite expression during a Saints game was "Throw it to Colston!" I won't be saying that for a while....

Y'all have a great nite tonight, Oldsmofriends. (Even you at work, Mike.)

Mornin all.

Sandy. Glad to hear your feeling tip-top It'll only get better from here.

Mike. I think it was a Bus trans, but I'm not completely sure. He bought it with that drivetrain in it. So I don't know why they didn't use a 'Vair tranny.

The Missus and I went to the Springs on Sat. We were gonna drop the trailer off at the track we raced at yesterday, but the rain was so bad that the road needed to dry out a bit before it was passable. So we haled everything east to Calhan to watch my employee race his sprint car. It was nice to see him finish well. His cousin won the main and he came in 3rd. Then we went back to the springs and got the trailer all set up at about 10ish and broke it in. It did exactly what we bought it for. We replaced the thin mattress with our Air mattress. Woke up yesterday and made the missus cackleberries and sowbelly. The the kid came down. We all raced in the afternoon. and the missus took the overall win. It was dry and dusty at the start. It started raining a few laps in and by the time the 1.5 hours was up, the traction was great.

Well have a Monday all.

Clint, congrats on the new trailer break in, and the missus winning her event. Ya had me at first with cackle berry till,I figgeed out the colloquialism for bacon and eggs.

Mike, cool! BTW I remember that DC10 crash out of Ohare. It was the same flight number I was on a week earlier.

Jim, I spec yer out teaching whitey sum new Trix?

Dan, glad your car show turned out well.

John, it's a Looney Luna day.current tem is only 33* compared to the moral 72 we should have. Glad I'm not out camping.

Enjoy your day, always better on de green (or white) side.

Hi everyone.

Nice here, a little overcast but still some blue sky(smiling at me...). Hopefully the Summit cruise in isn't cancelled for a few clouds.

Jamesbo I left the team at home. John has a couple residents that would highly object to eight extra feet coming in, besides the Better Half would be cleaning doghair for a week and wouldn't speak to me again.

Allan, snow? Are you pulling our leg? We didn't even get snow this early up home. Hey question for you. Are you still happy with your sand blasting machine? What is the biggest part you put in there and how long did it take to finish it? I'm losing use of that big machine at work and want to get one for home.

That American flight that crashed at O'Hare was flight 191. The Delta L1011 that crashed in Dallas was flight 191. The ASA flight that crashed in Lexington, KY, was 5191. The 5 indicates ASA and the 191 was the flight number. Something tells me not to take any flight named 191.

John work was okay last night. Spent the first few hours putting on wing panels, then sat around most of the rest of the night. I was waiting on a couple guys to finish a fuel issue and they needed a couple panels left off, so even though it was a light night somewhat, I was still there till the end because I needed to put the panels on after the fuel guys were done. Oh well.

Guess I'll mess around in the garage for a little while until it's time for Summit. Monday is almost over, the pressure is off.

Mike, I kid you not.
From Global News (extract)
EDMONTON – Edmontonians woke up to an unwanted surprise Monday morning. A mix of freezing rain and snow fell on the city, with the temperature dropping near the freezing mark.
re: the sandblaster? I still love my sandblaster. You also need a good air supply. Less than a 60 gallon 15 cfm @ 100 psi feed will just not cut it. It works very well and once I figured out a lighting system and air flow solution it's been a breeze to use. The large door access and cabinet makes it easier to do larger parts. If anything, I'd increase the length of the feed tube to the nozzle gun for just a bit better flexibility there. It's all pretty much large pieces that need to be bolted together. I used the two sided tape provided but found that it's not really enough, so I used extra metal tape on all the joints to make sure it was properly sealed. The viewing window is glass with an acetate protector sheet on the inside. I clean it about every 10 cycles or when needed. Overall I'm really pleased with it. BTW, dumping media is a breeze because of the dump shute at the bottom. When it's empty it's incredibly easy to move around. If you want more info, shoot me an email ( I think you have my email address) and I'll give you all the details you want; that others here may be bored with.

That's scary. What's even scarier is you know this stuff.... I bet one of those flights was the 191st Boeing off the assembly line and it cost 1,910,191.01!! It was also probably carrying 1,910 lbs of luggage... Yikes, I shouldn't be making fun of such tragedy.

Okay Allan, just like AOL says, "You have mail!"

Actually none of those three planes I mentioned were Boeings. I lived close to Chicago in 1979 when American crashed, I can clearly remember the news stories and the newspaper pictures. The Delta crash happened before I worked for the company but it's legend. Even saw the movie. And the Lexington crash happened just a couple years ago. Nothing good about a plane crash that's for sure.

Okay off to Summit.

Mornin all.

Mike, Hope it twas a good show. Or is it a cruise?

Alan, Keep it up there. I'm not ready for it yet. We are supposed to get down to the freezing mark later this week. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the floods we had to deal with. It's been awfully wet this year, but at least it's been a little spread out. Dad has mushrooms growing in his little patch of yard. They happen to be just a few feet from the wild yucca and prickly pear that grow naturally there.

Jamesbo, do you have spikes on your Galoshes?

Pretty moon this morning

Have a Tuesday all.

Good morning everyone.

Clint the cruise in was good. Actually no cruising about it, it's a static show. One Oldsmobile last night, a 70s Omega. Not a bad looking car actually, it was an aquamarine color, sort of like Aegean Aqua, and white interior. First time I had seen it.

Allan thanks for the info. I gotta get busy making a good place in the garage and getting things set up for it.

Not much else. Was gonna go to bed early last night and ended up watching Top Gear way too late. And of course the dogs wanted to get up at 0'Dark thirty this morning. It's nice out, almost 70.

Okay got plenty to do this morning before I attempt to build a fence this afternoon. Hope everyone's Tuesday is tops.

Morning everyone.

Mike, you're welcome. Hope it works out. You wouldn't believe how much of a timesaver it is for cleaning stuff with no bearings or other moving parts. Wait till you start experimenting with different kinds of media. I like glass beads myself. BTW, the media can be filtered to remove debris that accumulates in it and could plug the gun.

Clint, ok- you got it.

Jim, neither do I but it's too late fer me now.

Ted, cowtown got it much worse than us - for the second time already this year. Must be getting in practice for the winter from heck?

Only light flurries and rain forecast for today but temps will melt it on contact I hope.

Enjoy your day everyone. You too Ted!

Hi everyone.

I'm beat. Mowed and trimmed all afternoon. Looks nice though, and I know there won't be but a couple more times before mowing season is over. A little bittersweet.

The lake is going to be lowered come December. I want to extend the cinderblock wall into where the wall is made out of railroad ties. The RR ties don't have any sort of foundation and I need to know if a seawall that has about 18" of water up against it needs any sort of foundation. Or can I dig down and run a course(coarse?) below the lake bed. It's going to be filled up with concrete. The whole wall will be less than three feet tall. Anyone a cinder block kinda guy here?

Hitting the sack early tonight. Of course I say that every night and end up staying up past midnight. We'll see.

Have a good evening everyone.

Mike I have no idear. Don't have much water around here to deal with.

Alan, I'd better get the plow installed on Hoopty v2.0. all the signs are pointing to a whopper.

Jamesbo, Whatchu talkin bout Willis? That was one of the very few reasons I may have considered trying that game again in my more experienced years. What was the reason for that? Were there too many injuries to other golfers as they tried to play through?

Have a Humpday all.

Cooler and maybe sum rain coming later

Sandy, How ya feeling dis mawn'in?

Mike, Ya need to dig a concrete footing fer de wall. dig it down and place sum pegs de same height so when ya pour de concrete it would be level. "Might as Well" lay sum rebar down there and wire it together too.

Lay de blocks and put some weep holes in dem in-case water[rain] backs up behind dem. My lake house lake is de king of fancy smancy sea walls. You're welcome to come take a look at sum. I don't believe it in dem. I go au natural but they're plenty around to look at.

Clint, I have no idea I guess it had sum'in to do with green maintenance. But since de golfs don't make de holes the aerification does de same thing.

De Super Model and I were talking dis mawn'in 'bout old tv shows. Poor kid doesn't remember 77 Sunset Strip

Good morning everyone.

Looks cloudy this morning. I wonder if we're going to get that chance of rain they've been talking about all week. I hope not.

Jamesbo that sounds like a lot of work. I don't think the wall I'd be attaching to has that much into it. My neighbor's yard slopes down to the lake. At some point someone decided my yard needed to be level and built this wall. Had to have been years ago because the wall has a lot of erosion on it, but heck the lake is 57 years old so who knows.

Okay Awful house and errands. How the heck can I have so many errands to run? Happy Hump everyone.

Morning everyone. Damp and dreary here today. Must be close to mushroom season.

Jim, I Usta watch sunset strip when I Wuz a kid. Sheesh you an I must be the oldies in this group. Used ta change spikes purty offen wit my foot joys. The new plastic round things screw into the same holes. Dem foot joys ain't waterproof much. I beilieve they changed from spikes cause de Wuz a lot of complaining about lazy golf ears dragging their feet across the greens. Enyhoo, dats one theory. Shades of Gilligans Island! Where'd ya find Maynard?

Cint, I hope you're wrong but I also, see signs here that you're not. Prolly the new snowblower will earn it's keep this year. Yesterday the roofing company delivered new shingles for the shack. 72 bundles stacked up on the roof now awaiting install. They're doing the whole shebang. Drip edges, ice dam on edges and valleys, whole roof wrapped with some kind of typar, and all vents and flashing replaced. Not cheap but 50 year shingles with 15 year unconditional wear or failure replacement guarantee. At least the house will be safe from nature longer than I'll be alive.

Mike, I like the natural look to the lake myself. If you absolutely need a concrete wall have you thought about hydraulic cement? I bet we could knock that out in a week or so?

John, you coming back soon? It's Mercedes day for a change.

Ted, I saw that thread you sold the 68 442 to Joffroi. I was surprised you sold it after doing such a beautiful job restoring it. Very nice work sir!

Adrian, Paul, Scot & others? Where y'all hiding?

Carpe Diem populous!

Ah lunch. Been having oatmeal at the Awful house lately. It's pretty good but not very filling. Coincidentally I've been having back pain about the same amount of time so it's obvious to me that the lack of LoMelt in my diet is causing this.

Allan I've already got the block wall, I want to extend it. The last 40 feet of my waterline is just railroad ties stacked up and I want it to look a little nicer.

Jamesbo I used to watch 77 Sunset Strip on one of those retro channels. They must have been the early ones because I didn't realize Kooky became one of the detectives. Also watching Maynard it seems that Gilligan is Maynard in different clothes.

Half the day is gone and I don't have anything done nor do I have a plan. Days like this I usually spend(waste?) sitting at the computer or daydreaming outside. It is nice out...

Okay see ya.

Hey all.... thought I'd drop by for a minute. I feel like crap and have just been laying around alot. Not supposed to do anything anyhow. No one in the house is speaking to each other..... such great recovery circumstances! I sure wish Larry would act like an adult and just pretend to like Nicole at least for a couple weeks. I sure wish Nicole would pretend to like Larry for at least a couple weeks. It would make it so much easier for me to recover. I'm seriously thinking about calling my ins. co. and seeing if I can go to a rehab place. I've had it here....

Pam stopped by yesterday with flowers. Visited a little with her. I'm not very sociable. Jean came down today after work. Good to see her! I got beautiful flowers from Pete and Dale in Florida. They used to own the company I worked at. I call them mom and dad, lol.

Tomorrow I go to the clinic. I have not showered - been trying to just wash up. I had soooo much sticky residue on me, it's unreal! My skin is peeled from the tape in 5 places across my stomach. I don't know if my belly button is a newly made one or my old one. I know it's covered with scab. The drain tubes hurt like hell. The incision across my abdomen is just glued together. He made a new incision to remove the port. Don't know why he didn't go through the old one?

Thanking God for Percoset every 4 hours! I still can't breathe deep or cough - it hurts like hell to hiccup! I didn't even stumble outside today at all. They all said it's very humid out there. Had tornado warnings out all afternoon. Guess the cold front arrives after this front gets out of here. Temps in the 40's at night already. Jesus.....

Alright, I'm tired and gotta get something to eat. Grumpyass showered and left without speaking a word when he got home. I really don't like him much. Can't wait to recover and be making some major changes in my life....

You all have a great evening - keep the prayers coming and remember I love ya!! Thanks, Jamesbo.

How'd you ever hook up with Larry in the first place? You don't need that kind of attitude especially when you're convalescing. Half of the healing is mental and it sounds like you need to be in a different place to make that happen. Keep on fighting the good fight.

Hi everyone.

Sandy I bet if you told your doctors the conditions you had at home they'd recommend a rehab place. Keep your eye on the prize. Getting better!

I moved cars around all afternoon. Got the big truck back in its spot under the trees, got the wagon off the trailer, made room for the Corvette and the Mustang for when they have to come home.

Just got back from Walmart. I'm really beginning to despise them. They are always out of my dog food. I even changed kinds and now they are out of the new one! Unfortunately WM is the cheapest by far so that's why I go there.

Work tomorrow. I work my week this week and then I'm off for 10. Besides driving up to New Jersey and flying right back, I don't have any plans to go anywhere. Just gonna go crazy on my list of chores and projects and hope I can get somewhat caught up.

Have a good night everyone, onward Thursday!

Morning everyone.

Frost everywhere and temp is only 28*. Good news is that it won't last. By next week Spoda get back to the 70s.

Clint, sorry bout dat. The bad stuff we got was because of opposite to normal wind patterns. Our sister city to the south got hit bad and almost 1/3 of the city was without power. Lots of trees lost or damaged, same with cars that had tree limbs fall on them. They got around 8" of the white stuff. Don't park the new TH under a tree if you think it's gonna hit hard.

Mike, what do you mean the Mustang isn't home? I thought it was new and had the best parking stall in the stable. Are they still fixing the scratch? Painting the whole car? Sup with it? Yeah, bob Denver's character fits perfectly in both shows.

John, Hope alls well, and you're enjoying Thors day!

Enjoy your day, however you choose to.

Ah ha ha ha ha ha.....no way in hell. I'm thinking more like this:

with one of these on the front:

BTW, that Olds Toro is for real. It was snubbed like that with a wood front end and used to push employees cars out of the snow at Lansing. Pic is from 1972 Lansing parade. The ORIGINAL Olds Funny Car!! Quite a chop job isn't it?

Hi everyone.

Yet another beautiful day. After the weatherman scaring us about rain all week it's been nothing short of spectacular. Hope we have a repeat of that next week.

Allan the Corvette and the Mustang are next door at the neighbors. Since they aren't home I've been keeping the Corvette in their garage and the Mustang on the driveway. That will all change next week when she gets home.

Jamesbo all the cars don't get moved all the time. Just the ones that need to be.

Clint I'm taking my neighbor's Explorer up to him. He's decided it's more important for him to stay in New Jersey alone than to have any respect for his wife and come back to Georgia with her like he agreed. She said she can't come home until he has a car because she's driving her car back. Hm, if I don't go up there the Corvette can stay in the garage... It's going to be a quick trip. Up there and fly right back. Can anyone pick me up at the airport?

Night number one. I have a feeling this is going to be a slow week. Have a good one everybody.

Allan I saw a white one at the Olds museum in 1987. This car doesn't look white. Did they paint it or were there two?

And I'm remembering it had a hard rubber nose and tail end on it. Maybe the rubber was put over the wood? Oh.

Mike, far as I know there were some Toro's around that time that were experimented on with shortening etc. They look kind of butt ugly don't they? IMO it looks more like the AMX than an Olds. BTW, I really like the look of the AMX though.

AMX

Sounds like your neighbors husband is a jerk. Call her and tell her to leave the SOB there and just come home. Let him worry about his own transportation.

I tried that. She said she won't leave him without a car. I said have him buy one there and sell this one. Nope he won't do it. And yes, he certainly is full of himself.

When this was first suggested my immediate thought was hell no. But then after a summer of using his garage, his tools, drinking all their pop, etc., I figured I sorta couldn't say no. I don't mind doing things for these people, but it seems they impose on me instead of having someone from there families. Knowing the two of them I'm thinking I know what the families' answer would be...

Okay gone. Have a good night.
